    Paradise is my favorite Toni Morrison book; her writing is so powerful and so heart wrenching. I hope you get to read it soon.

    The Ramayana is one of our biggest mythological texts (Hindu texts to be specific). I'd love to hear what you think! I haven't read this version.
    If you want to read more The Palace of Illusions is another books that retells a major myth, The Mahabharata. It's brilliant.

    Oh, I loved Bingo Love. 💜 It's especially lovely how the creators incorporate the women's families into the conversation toward the end. Enjoy!

    AH! I adore the Ramayana. Check out the Mahabharata, too! It's so wonderful! And if you love it, try the re-imagining of that story by Sangu Mandana (book one is A Spark of White Fire). ALSO! The Castle of Otranto is *hilarious!* I'm obsessed with Baba Yaga and have been wanting The House With Chicken Legs.
    You've made me want to buy a load of books now.

    My sister just gave me bingo love and I’m excited to read it, even though graphic novels aren’t usually my thing. The Castle of Otranto is interesting...to a modern reader it will read quite melodramatic and silly, but if you can go along with it you might have fun. The author originally tried to pass it off as a recovered historical document and some people believed it!

    Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye," "Song of Solomon" and "Beloved" are very powerful novels. I've never read "Paradise" so can't speak to it but there are so many layers to her novels you discover something new on second and third readings even though nothing comes across as "hidden." There is just so much there you can't take it all in with a single reading.

    With the Wizards of Once definitely use the audiobook, David Tennant reads all the audiobooks and following that with the book is just phenomenal and a more immersive experience x
    The House with Chicken Legs is a fabulous book and was my middle grade of 2019, it hit every emotion going and was such a phenomenal book. I absolutely adored it so so much, I hope you enjoy it too just as much

    This Brutal House and The Wizard of Once sound especially interesting. I've not read it myself but I had recommended Bingo Love to my sister the other month after she was gushing about the Netflix documentary A Secret Love.

    I read The Castle of Otranto recently and honestly, the opening is WILD. I had hoped it would keep up the same heightened pace throughout which is kind of doesn't, but it's definitely one of those which really helps give a better understanding of genre. I hope you find it interesting!

    I'm aware that my current bookshelf isn't very diverse or inclusive, but I'm not sure where to begin to change this. Do you have any suggestions of books or how to find books that would help me achieve a more diverse bookshelf.

    • @NilaR93
      @NilaR93 4 роки тому +3

      A quick Google search for diverse books/authors in genres you enjoy (honestly this is so important) and then maybe get diverse books/authors that are outside your comfort zone from your library? I'm not sure if that's accessible to you, but it's a good way to explore diverse books 😁 I've been working on this myself the past few years 🙈

    • @localabsurdist6661

      I‘ve a quite diverse collection of books. Just google „list of *genre* by *black, queer, etc“ authors“ and you will definitely find something. I do that a lot with fantasy, classics and poetry.

      Is there a group or culture that you’re interested in learning more about? That may be a good place to start with Google lists.
