I heard you play this live at Seneca Rock Discovery Center in West Virginia, several years ago. The sound was so magnificent, the tears started flowing. Words can't describe how absolutely beautiful it was. It took a while after you were done before I could even talk, seriously. I was finally able to compose myself and tell you how beautiful it was, and you were so gracious and kind. I will never forget walking inside that building and hearing that heavenly sound. Thank you for that. Your talent is a gift to us all.
Hello Timothy, I just read rainbow...’s comment about hearing you at Seneca Rocks West Virginia.... I am from West Virginia! Been to Seneca Rocks many times! Listening to you play this now via UA-cam on my iPad is so beautiful am about to shed some tears of joy! I could only imagine what it might be like to hear in person! God bless you real well!
That would've been so cool. I live in West Virginia, born and raised, and I've been to the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center and climbed up Seneca Rocks. That would be cool to hear anythin played on the dulcimer at Seneca Rocks. The dulcimer just adds to God's natural beauty of nature in WV
Mr. Seaman, Many Thanks for your wonderful piece here. Wonderful and you are a Master at your art. This, reminded me of my Dear Mother. Wonderful ,Just Wonderful.
It sounds like a bit of "Kum-baya My lord'' has been snuck into this wonderfully uplifting melody. It is absolutely beautiful, definitely needed in this critical time where we are dealing with the struggles people are having to go through with the virus lock-down. Good music has a way with uplifting one's spirits, thank you Timothy Seaman.
It was great to finally see you in person in Colonial Williamsburg's Visitor Center, and thank you for autographing your CD "Incarnation". The music is wonderful!
This is really pretty. I've just been discovering Hammered Dulcimer music, and now thanks to your videos and other'. I'm falling in love with it. Such a pretty instrument. I grew up playing piano, but there was always something lacking in a piano to my mind, it was too mechanical. I like this much better, thank you! Such a lovely instrument, and beautiful music to hear played! ^_^
This is really good. I've never liked the hymn (focuses far too much on personal redemption for my liking) but this brings out the beautiful tune really well.
William Cowper was an unusual poet with great personal emotional struggles --- so perhaps the self-focus comes from his own experience primarily. John Newton was his pastor and he actually stayed in town at times just to make sure Cowper was safe!
@@diannewood2039 Thanks to the Xaverian Brothers I acquired the ability to rue many things in my youth. But their intensity in Latin, English and French I trust fortifies my language presentation.I lost any hope when changes eliminated my membership in a boys' choir. Settled into a croak.
What an interesting instrument. I'm starting to see it more often on UA-cam, but I'm guessing it's not so common since I've never seen one in person. In my point of view. It looks like a harp you play like a marimba. Tell me more background on this instrument. Can knowing piano boost your ability of being able able play/learn this faster? What are the notes?
Thank you! Simple answer: Dusty Strings --- it's a D600 model made of Honduras Mahogany. Complex answer: But it's one of the first ones made, and probably is the individual one that has been played the most, so the wood has a full and mature sound. Also, I play very fully and emotionally, and I use the suede side of the hammers for a piano-like voice. I have developed this arrangement technique to be able to express the content of the music like a pianist can, and I've arranged it in a 'epic' manner with increasing-in-scope interludes and shifting minor chords for emotional impact, and I've recorded it with good stereo microphones in a quite live reflective space. All of this counts for the overall effect here! It's one of my favorite pieces to play in my repertoire.
Just wondering if your dulcimer is amplified in any way because I've heard plenty of other artists but this video is loud and clear thank you so much for posting this
I developed this arrangement using primarily a 'pianistic separated hands' technique I've devised for slow, simple tunes, and there are many chord changes and rhythmic elements combined intuitively as a 'duet' of the hands. The idea of the technique is to use stylized triangular patterns in the right hand, plus some other patterns, as accompaniment for the left hand's melody part, much as a pianist does with the reverse hands, so it isn't a collection of notes that would easily be put into a score and learned, but it's an arrangement world that comes from the player, and is adapted moment by moment as it is played --- I play it differently every time. I suppose it would be possible to study the video and make a score roughly representing the way that particular performance went, and I have done that before for a few other arrangements at people's request, but... I'd rather that you studied how to play the separated-hands technique and develop your own arrangement of this and other tunes! It would probably take many hours of hard work to reduce this to a score, and I don't have that luxury at this time... but perhaps someday at least a basic score of the general idea could be done for people to study how the technique works. I wrote a series of four articles several years ago for Dulcimer Players' News that introduces how to play the technique and train your hands to work like a live duet, and I'd be glad to point you to those if you e-mail me at timothyseaman@gmail.com.
Hey man, I'm really digging the sound! I usually do not partake in quarrels but me and my friend can't decide if you are using flexible or stiff hammers? Can you tell us? Thanks for the magical content, have a great life mate! // Isak "joffa" på berget.
In the past I used to use flexible hammers made by Sam Rizzetta, but I my body language made me have to try too hard to keep on timing. I recommend them otherwise --- a wonderful sound. But these here are stiff wood Dusty Strings hammers, and I guess the video makes them look like they're bending.
I'm not sure just what you mean, but I do have an audio version of this that can be downloaded from iTunes or Amazon or CD Baby or my own website www.timothyseaman.com.
Hi Mr. Seaman, Thanks very much for your reply. Here, I meant about saving the song “Offline” in UA-cam and it can be played whenever one requires without internet.
I do have a basic notation version, available free if you request it (YT doesn't allow sharing of pdfs), but the main concept is a technique of separated hands that I've developed, so that would need ot be learned as the basis for it. (I have materials about the technique as well.)
I have one of these instruments. It needs strings and tuned and some work. I even had someone find the maker of it and I just can't come up with the money to get it done. Owning a house is expensive and puts you on a budget with nothing much left over. Not even vacations. That money goes back into the house. It's a revolving door.
Heard this instrument before playing a rock song; however I believe hymns are where the true beauty is. Not some wicked song about lust or nothingness. I wish I could meet you and play along side of you. I play accordion, lap dulcimer, and piano.
master of your craft sir
Absolutely beautiful, happy Sabbath!

So evocative of the unspoiled nature of the mountains.
It’s not often one hears this degree of hand separation on the dulcimer done smoothly. A pleasure to watch!
Very beautifull brings tears to my eyes
I know, according to scripture, there is music in Heaven. I can imagine it being like this. Absolutely beautiful ! Thank You.....

This is literally my favorite thing to listen to. I just love your rendition of the song
Just started learning how to play the dulcimer. I hope that someday I'll be able to play it that beautifully.
OMG Thank You! That was absolutely F_reakin' beautiful. I could feel you "emoting" through each and every note!

All who are redeemed have an enormous personal, intimate relationship with our Redeemer. I can't imagine what's wrong with that.
There are some beautiful compositions out there when you don't have to listen to the lyrics.
I rue my musical inability but I appreciate your playing skills.

Not at all --- it is very resonant all on its own, and I place the microphones where they really pick that up!
@@timothyseaman excellent thanks
@@donaldleroy6502 Also, this particular video was done in our kitchen, where the hard surfaces pick up the resonance and become part of it as well!

One needs art and reprieve from everyday life. A home ownership should not consume more that 30-35% of your income according to real estate experts.
