Hey Luke, regarding the last part of the video, why does Dante depict Alexander as a bad guy as well even though he was before the Romans even existed and made the largest empire before the Romans?
The map at 6:51 is not accurate. This is a recent map. The Netherlands looked a lot different back then, especially the northern part. That land in the center did not exit, it was created by the Dutch in the 20th century by closing down that water from the sea (which you can see above that land in the center). It can be defended to use a new map to point out which countries and parts of countries belonged to an old empire (people easily recognize it) but it is not accurate.
When you look at the history of Rome objectively, and see what caused their greatness. You could almost say that what made Rome great was their large middle class LOL. Dante himself was a product of essentially, as I think Nietzsche reasonably pointed out, a slave uprising. It was a leftist slavish uprising of the lowest classes against the middle class, inadvertently assisting the highest class in knocking away the rungs below it. There is this common trend in histories of different ethnic peoples, that when a people first comes into being, usually, like with Abraham leaving his people in Iran and moving to the middle East and starting his own tribe of the jews, you could say that the history of every people is exactly like that. There is some segment of a tribe that is different in some way from the rest of their tribe, and as either expelled or willingly leaves and goes off and starts their own social structure based on their own unique nature. And if by Fate this new tribe becomes powerful, it is because of the things that make them unique from the other tribes around them. And this uniqueness against other is a unifying aspect within and creates what might be called one uniform middle class. There is no upper or lower class in a small tribe. there may be individuals of varying abilities, but they don't constitute classes yet. However naturally as any tribe gets larger, if they do not expel people of those different caliber that will later become the lower classes, they will inevitably end up with a lower class that as history has proven time and time and time again, is the tool of the most powerful in the tribe, to get rid of those in the middle. There's this common trend that the lowest and highest in any society tend to form an alliance for mutual benefit. With an alliance of the highest and lowest classes in any society, the highest class obviously benefits by gaining supremacy over their own adversaries that are in closer proximity to them in power and strength, and gain a sort of insurance policy through the support of the lowest class period and the lowest class obviously gains in power in the immediate sense by getting rid of those who are more directly oppressive of them in their own view.what is rarely if ever accounted for in the minds of the lower class, is that what constitutes the middle class or aristocracy of their tribe, is actually the creative class. They are the ones that come up with the ideas of innovation that keep the tribe competitive and if what never crosses the minds of the Lord fast, w
There is a short tale by Jorge Luis Borges titled "Tres versiones de Judas" and its about how Jesus to be able to save the world needs to be betrayed, without the betray there wouldn't be resurrection.. So in this plan you need someone who takes the responsability of the betray, someone who sacrifice himself to be in the deepest pit of the hell to save the humanity. That was Judas, he was the only follower who gets the gods plan and betray Jesus knowing what hes doing. Then Borges goes even further, if god became human he should be the most human between humans (remember god its almighty, if he does something he has to do it in a perfect way), if someone its going to commit the most horrible crimes between crimes should be god himself. The real savior wasn't Jesus was Judas, he sacrifice for the humankind being the most human between the humans, in this Judas version he was god.
