Madonna is underrated as a lyricist. I think it was Justin Timberlake who said she walks around with a notebook of poetry. She also creates great melodies. This was definitely the era of Madonna using the spoken word in her music. She continues this heavily on Erotica and still dabbles in it on her current music.

One of the most underrated Madonna songs ever. I could say so much about it. And I’m going to 😂 This was added to The Immaculate Collection (Greatest Hits) album and was over shadowed by Justify my Love that was also one of the new songs added. It really deserved to have a music video and if it did, it would’ve been such a bigger hit worldwide. She’s never sung it live, never spoken about it in an interview, nobody ever talks to her about it. Niki & Donna never mention it, which surprises me, seeing it’s got those fantastic added background vocals by them. As a fan for the last 40yrs, it so frustrating that this incredible track never gets the recognition it deserves, only from her die hard fans. I love your reaction to it and I’m so glad it touches you the same way. I’m falling in love with Brenda more and more…. Rescue Me, baby throw out your rope Emily. ❤

I love “Rescue Me” lyrics because they gave me the idea to replace the word “love” with the word “understanding” in all Madonna's lyrics and wow! I was very surprised to hear her messages clear as day; beautiful messages like love is understanding others or at least trying to understand them by removing all kinds of prejudices, to be fearless by getting more information and questioning everything that it’s been established, etc.

But it’s message could easily resonate with most us, that the love and understanding of some people that mattered to us during difficult times have sustained and inspired us to persist and overcome our own crises and challenges.

There is so much to say about Madonna that no words can explain. Growing up as a closeted gay kid, Madonna made me feel comfortable being who I was. Her vocals, her messages and her enduring support of the LGBT community gave me the kind of encouragement to live my true self without shame. Her messages of love and compassion gave me a sense of humanity and taught me how to treat people that were different. She is the Queen and has always been a part of my life since 1985. ❤

Such an amazing song. I never understood why this was not made into a video. I would’ve loved to see what she did with this. The only live performance I know of is from the Madame X tour.

I love this song! It is one of my favorites! She never did this live. Never at any shows that I’ve gone too. Boooo. lol.
Musically speaking this song was supposed to be either a transition to erotica or an intro to it. This one is produced by Shep Pettibone, same producer of Vogue. She took this sound to producer Junior Vasquez as an inspiration to Erotica (the song). If you listen to its demo, called Love Hurts, you’ll make the connections. Because of some schedule conflicts Madonna had to drop Junior, but she decided to work with Pettibone. It was both their decision to make Erotica (the whole album) sound very different from this, although I believe Erotica as a dance album would have been just as amazing.

The next single is from a film. I'm curious to know how you will react to that track. It's quite different from the previous two singles.
