Bloo-dy hell. I've been trying to think of this programme for YEARS, all I could remember was it had some kind of cat themed computer game but never in a million years would I have remembered the name. Thank goodness for UA-cam's "similar videos" feature!
I remembered the name of the show, but even when you type *'gameshow steal jools Mark Walker'* into UA-cam, you get absolutely no results relating to this show! It was only when I searched for *"Mark Walker" steal* that I found this!
Can’t believe someone else also couldn’t remember what this was. I thought I must have dreamt this as I periodically have searched lists of tv shows and watched through tons of videos trying to find what it was that I remembered. I knew it was too vivid not to be real.

For those posters whining about a £1 000 top prize, for the longest time in the UK it was the law that only a top of £1 000 could be awarded per game/episode. Even when the law was removed, most shows stated to that for at least a decent while.
In 1960, two years after the scandal in America, the IBA's predecessor (the ITA) imposed a £1,000 cap on the value of prizes that would increase over the years to £6,000 in 1981 and be lifted in 1993. British versions of popular American quiz shows had to be adjusted - The $64,000 Question having a maximum prize initially of 64,000 sixpences (£1,600) in the late 1950s, and in the early 1990s of just £6,400. "The Six Thousand Four Hundred Pound Question" was only asked every other week so as not to break the regulatory £3,200/week maximum.
I hear they had to get special permission to offer a 6400 pound prize at all. They only kept the name $64,000 question because according to Bob Monkhouse: "You don't mess around with catchphrases"
It's like a mix between Break the Bank '76, Press Your Luck, and Starcade. Roy got a golden robot, Mark got a literal cat burglar, his sidekick, and a guard dog.
I had one of those languages translators, they were awful!!!. If you typed in “Apple” for example, it used to return as “?Apple”, because the word wasn’t programmed into it!. They also wrongly translated words!. It was such a big hit with my school friends.

I don't get why the quality of gameshow hosts is so poor these days. Surely there are plenty of funny men out there. I'd love to give it a go myself actually, I've done a lot of performing.
Searched Google for "itv game show cat burglar" and here we are. Finally after all these years! First impression: "Roy Walker looks a lot younger. Wait, who is Mark Walker?".
I remember a Mars bar was one of the booby prizes won regarding the swag bags in another episode. Just a tip for the end game, there were no jackpot icons in the corners. Therefore, the corners were out! Anything in the corners are always in the corners regardless!
yeah, it would make a good kid's show, albeit they would have to drop the idea of rotating the board (cause it would be too hard for the US) and keep the budget exactly the same in dollars instead of pounds.
I adored this show when I was a kid and was disappointed it never came back on TV. I loved the cartoon characters and remember copying the drawings myself. Sadly, looking back, it really doesn't live up to my memory. I still really love the cartoons, and the colours, and the square icons, and the music is great - it had potential… But the format doesn't quite work. The main game is somewhat slow and tedious, and the events in the videogames are too disjointed from the main game. And while I like Mark Walker, he simply wasn't in the same league as his father. Plus, the game isn't even based around 'stealing', that's only a minor feature. As for the final round… we're told she has 5 seconds to memorise the board, however, she seems to have 10 seconds, while we only get to see it for 3 seconds! It's frustrating - as are the 'rotation' graphics, which don't actually show the squares moving! *How I would fix this show…* If I could bring this game back today, I would make it more fast-paced and fun, with teams of parents and kids (possibly on the CBBC channel). The host needs to be a guy brimming with fun and banter, somone like Jason Byrne would be perfect (love him!). I'd make the show more based around actually stealing from the other team, and have the contestants sitting way closer to the screen so there's more connection, probably with a central screen, maybe on the floor - perhaps with 9 physical boxes, each with a screen on top of it? I'd also make sure the two teams were FACING each other - instead of the stupid 'upstairs, downstairs' arrangement where teams can't even SEE each other! The mini-games would be chosen from a selection, in a fun way (eg spin a wheel) to create more interaction, and I'd have teams playing the videogames directly against each other. I'd always have one team playing as Jules (red) and the other team playing as Scruff (blue) with really strong colour coding so we can always see which team is which. Perhaps these days you could have screens all over the set, so the arcade games could play out all across the studio? Plus loads more animation, sound effects, cat noises, etc. Just more fun and fast-paced excitement in general. Like, a game with cars whizzing past on a road and you have to avoid getting splatted! Plus more cat gags - like instead of getting '8 goes' in the final, you get '9 lives'! Also, the 'final' needs to look distinct to the other rounds, even if it's just different lighting. These are really my notes to self for when I become a TV producer! LOL :-) Also wouldn't mind hosting a show like this :-)
