    Super interesting stuff. We'll keep this in mind if we/when we renovate a Spanish finca someday! Came here from the newsletter. Nice to hear from you again. ;)

    A year later, how has the water proofing poly held up? I'm thinking about doing this but I am a messy face washer and I am worried the poly coat wouldn't last very long.

    Love this idea, the vanity’s at Home Depot and Lowe’s and even mar adds just don’t do it for me, Maybe this is just what I’ve been look g for

    Beautiful!! Do you like having just drawers instead of hinged doors for your vanity?

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought  Рік тому +5

      Sorry for the delayed response! This vanity is in my parents bathroom and they said they like the drawers just fine. They said there were a couple items that they had to relocate because they were too tall for the drawers . But they said it wasn't a big deal and haven't missed having doors.

    Only thing I would have done was stained the new pine boards to look like they were meant to be that original shape.

      Yes, I do think that would give it a nice finished look!

    What grit sandpaper did he use.

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought  Рік тому

      We used a few different ones. For the bigger rough spots, we used 60. For pretty much everything else, we used 120. For the dresser top, after the stain/finish was on, before we put on the last coat of finish, we used 220.

    I'd waterproof every micrometer of wood even inside and behind the drawer and every screw and nail. Then also used water mold mildew proof (even barnacle proof😆 ) boat hull paint, then ceramic clear coat meant for boat hulls also on every inch possible. This seems beautiful, until in a couple of years wood swelling, water damage mold and mildew will set in and infest your air too plus wet wood and rot wood smell with a hint of bacteria bouquet 😂. Hell, I did the above procedure for my bedroom furniture also, for that same reason, just against humidity. Yeah boat hull paint or clear boat hull paint then ceramic coat also for marine use can cost more than an arm and leg (an arm and leg is small change when it comes to those stuff, since I'd ONLY recommend top shelf products. Better safe than sorry 😎), but it is worth it! It will last you forever. No joke!

      @@TheMerrythoughtdid you cut any height from the legs?

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought  8 місяців тому

      We did not cut the legs at all, it was the right height for what we wanted.
