I've updated the plans with a couple corrected dimension. You can redownload the plans from my website here. www.bearmountainbuilds.com/product-page/bathroom-vanity-build-plans
Perfect timing, I literally just found your video while looking for alternatives to the overpriced MDF junk at the box stores. I downloaded your plans and see that it was designed to be 3" taller than "normal". Is there an easy way to convert this back to standard counter height? I'm assuming I would simply deduct 3" from the following parts: Side Panels Dividers Back, front, sides, front center, and verticals of bottom drawers Side and internal verticals of face frame Verticals for doors Height of the second from bottom horizontal drawer frame Finally, it seems as though the heights for the drawer slides is a bit arbitrary as long as appropriate steps are taken to line them up properly on the drawers, is that right?
Soooo….Im in the middle of cutting my plywood sheets from your plans and realized there’s one measurement missing! It’s for the hinged door centers. 5 1/8th by ? I feel like I should be able to figure this out, but….. I’m struggling.
Hi, thank you for the updated plan. I have completed the vanity (not painted yet) it looks awesome. I have one big issue I am not sure how to resolve. I used the door hinges you recommended from the link. however, my doors stick out too far out they are not on the same plane as the rest of the drawers or the fake drawer. I have maxed out all the adjustments. I just can't get the door flush with frame. Any ideas? I zoomed into your build video and they are flush with the frame. Your hinge on the video may be different than the one on the link.... Perhaps the manufacture has changed that model...!!?? Any help or recommendation is much appreciated and welcomed.
Thank you for making this video! You have a great pace. I’m getting ready to build a vanity and this helped. I also downloaded your plans. Quick question: the hinges you used for the doors aren’t on your materials list. Can you tell me which ones you used? Specifically I’m looking for the overlay measurement. Thanks!
Wow, very detailed. I’m 39 yrs. old, loved wood shop in Middle school. I’ve finally acquired all the necessary tools to build this vanity. Just need to clean my garage, practice safety procedures and start building. Liked and subscribed. Thank you.
This was by far the best video I found on how to build a vanity. I just finished renovating a small half bath that would never fit a standard sized vanity. I adapted your plans to build a 37”x16” vanity with two doors and two drawers. As an amateur woodworker I found it a lot easier to attach the stretchers and toe kicks to the sides first, and then attach the base. The toe kicks and stretchers allowed me to square everything up perfectly at the start. I also found it easier to mount the drawer slides, then attach the sides of the drawers to the slides, then I could get a pretty exact measurement for the drawer box front/back (found that idea on an Ana White video). I also found it easier to build and dry-fit the face frame in place once I had the vanity in its final place. I had no margin for error on the size of the face frame because I had a wall on both sides. I then built the doors and drawer fronts after the face frame was in place. Thanks for the awesome video!
I’ll be building another bathroom vanity and this video has me rethinking my plans as I think I over build mine as I got away from using pocket holes awhile ago for moe labor intensive methods but I wont get away from making my drawers using dovetails…nothing beats opened a drawer to see tight dovetail joinery on them. Nice job and I just bought that Homeright sprayer, it is an AMAZING sprayer for price!
I have watched a lot of carpenter's video, but of all that l have watched you the best you take your time to explain each and every detail thank you watching from Africa Zambia
I live my life by “the more clamps you own the easier life is”, but I have 2 sets of 90 degree clamps so a total of 4. I’d say that’s all a guy really needs but another set never hurts
I just remodeled the master bathroom and bought a 60 inch vanity of good but not great quality - $2,000. I will renovate the main bathroom with a 72 inch vanity next year. I planned to build it myself and save money and get very good quality. This video is just what I needed. Thanks
Great video. Thanks for uploading and making plans available for free. I plan to use those plans as a foundation and adjust the dimensions for my own build. Thanks again.
A lot of people, myself included, love that old blue bath set. My granddaughter just bought the complete blue toilet, tub, and sink from someone who is restoring a bathroom. She is creating a retro bath and so far it looks amazing.
Great video and plans. Question the plans say 3- 1x2x8 poplar, is this supposed to be enough for the face frame and drawer fronts? Only seams to be enough for the face frame. Thx
Great video, straight to the point. I downloaded the PDF, and it looks great. Q1) How do you fit all the required panels for 3/4 Inch into one 4x8' sheet? I am assuming a 1/8" kerf width. 5 cuts result in a loss of 0.0625"; I keep coming up short for all possible arrangments. My most optimal arrangement is (4+4+5.25+20.5+34+28=95.75) + 0.625 loss = 96.375 Obviously, I can compensate for the shortage of 0.375. However, I am wondering if I am missing something!? I appreciate your response.

I've went and got all of the material today! Going to start building in a couple minutes, I have to have it done in a week while working a 40 hour week, so I hope all goes well. Thanks for the video and plans!
So many great techniques for us beginners here, well explained and demo'd. The ban of my wood working is squaring boxes and will look at those box squares immediately. Thank You!
This was the era of pocket holes for everything on youtube. Great build just amusing that everyone who got sponsored by pocket hole jig companies went a bit crazy with them.
Boy, did I need this! I took out my vanity with the intent to replace the side panel due to water damage. I had so much trouble replacing it so I said to my husband that we need to build one. After watching crazy amount of videos, this is the one that matched my brain! However my vanity will be only 36” wide so I got a little discombobulated with the drawer build. I think if I take it slow with the video and the FREE plans, I’ll be okay. 🥴. Thank you for helping us!
I'm sure you've build one already, but doing just a double door front on your first vanity project is a much simpler project, I did this with a small 30" vanity I made for a friend.
Wow, nice, I'm not a carpenter. Just seeing how it made, I thinking of purchasing one from the store for my kid's bathroom but the quality waste good want it to last as long as it can. Keep up the great job.
Great video, great plans, I’m going to keep this idea in my back pocket for now. 2024 prices including hinges, handles, paint and top is just under $700. Not too shabby.
Very high end vanity! I would love to have that in my bathroom. I love the blue too. I’m painting my vanities because they were built very well and would never replace them with the cheap vanities out there. I’m going with various shades of blue also.
In case you didn't notice and to avoid any future issues I seen you stop mid-cut and the saw pulled away from your straight edge @ 1:27 ... keep up the great work! BTW, I have these little WoodPeckers squares but am not sure mine have those little holes in them and I certainly don't have those clamps. I use Festool Domino DF500 which helps hold things aligned when gluing/clamping and went this way after seeing how out of alignment pocket screws pulled panels ... it looks like your method really holds it in position quite well! :)
Hi ...this is the best video about making a cabinet. so professional, step by step, clean and exellent , exellent job. congratulations. i've just suscribe .
As everyone has mentioned, this is probably the best DIY cabinet build I've watched yet. Most go into too much detail or over complicate it. Love this video! Only thing I wouldve loved to have seen was your vanity top installation as I planned to use the exact same setup! Either way awesome work 10/10
Sorry for the Spanish…. Pero esta es la mejor explicación que pude encontrar para elaborar un Vanity. Muchas felicidades por tu proyecto y muchas Gracias por compartirlo 👍🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much for your generosity in sharing your work and plans. Soon I will have to build this piece of furniture. Kind regards from Tarragona- Spain
The plans and video are great. Thank you so much and I also subscribed. I am to the point of making the face frame. There are no measurements to show where to set the horizontal pieces. The top spacing looks to be about 4 or 5 inches, but I have no idea of the specific distances between the horizontal pieces. Can you provide those distances, please? Thank you so much.
You’re right those dimensions are missing, good catch. The top opening dimension is 5” the middle is 7.75” and the bottom is 10.75”. I’ll get the plans updated. Thanks!
This is the best cabinet making video I have seen! While dovetails have their place, I love the simplified drawer technique. I would suggest less music as it gets monotonous, but that is just a personal thing with me. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the free plans! I’ve been following them and have a question. Do you happen to remember the measurement for the spacers you used to locate the divider panels?
Wow, this was a great video. I have never done any woodwork but your instructions are so great that I actually feel very confident to take on a project like this one. Do you know what was your total cost built including counter top?
Not sure if Carcus will catch on but nice build for sure. and the pocket holes were by the Kreg of a different company? I like the extended version you have.
Hey Jack. I'm building this vanity next weekend. I'm curious about two things. One, what was the reason for making the drawer back 1/2" shorter? Couldn't you groove it the same was as the other three sides, and insert the bottom before screwing the back on? So it's all locked in, no glue required. Two, what do you think about pre-drilling pocket holes along the front edge of the sides and dividers, so the face frame can be screwed on from behind with pocket screws instead of having to fill a bunch of brad nail holes?
Good questions! 1. Making the back of the drawer 1/2" shorter allows for you to change out the drawer bottoms in the future if they get damaged over time instead of having to replace the entire door. 2. Using pocket screws to hold the face frame on would definitely work as long as you don't care if you see the pocket holes when you open the drawers.
Quick question for you, what software did you use to draft the plans. I have your plans for this build and you did a beautiful job. I just need to tweak some dimensions for my space and would like to use the software you did. Thank you! Cheers from Chicago. 👊🏻
That is some awesome level of skill you got there bro. I really enjoyed watching the process. Thanks for sharing this video! You just earned a new sub.
Absolutely love the video! One question. If the depth of the vanity is to be 20.5", don't the bulkheads need to be 19.75" with the face frame accounting for the remaining .75"?
Thank you so much for this video and the plans,I'm thinking of making one and adding a top and a back, going to put it under the mitre station (of course made using your plans) as storage :)
one of the best cabinet/vanity build videos i've seen on YT....and i've watched a ton. great pace and clear instruction...also like how you pause after a set of steps to go over what you've just completed. keep up the great work!
If I were going to stain this instead of painting, what would I have to change as far as materials? Or would it work to paint in brown, and do a wood grain stencil or something?
I’d recommend doing some testing with the stain you want to use on poplar and sanded plywood to make sure the colors are what you. They may be a bit different due to poplar having a slight green undertone. If they are different I recommend using aspen instead of poplar but remember to use wood conditioner on it before staining
Comes down to the dimensions of your under mount sink. You just need to make sure the dividers don't interfere with the sink bowl. You may need to shift the position of the dividers slightly to fit an undermount sink. This would impact the width of the drawers and front doors
@@BearMountainBuilds Yes that makes so much sense looking at your great downloadable plans I can now see how I would need to adjust the dividers and drawers. Look forward to having a go
Great tutorial! I have built the carcass and most of the face frame, but I don’t see on the plans or in the video what the measurements are for the spacing between the drawer horizontal pieces of the face frame. Can you post those measurements?
I just noticed that you have the grain going front to back on the bottom and sides as opposed to horizontal on the bottom and vertical on the sides. Does that matter? Maybe is that for using less on the plywood sheet? Thanks, just wondering.
Hola! 🖐Really, really nice build. You make it look like you have built hundreds of these. I'm still building the momentum to get going on converting my garage into my workshop and I can't wait to build cabinets for it. This video will be a reference for me definitely. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
Subscribed! I was curious, in your plans for this build you mentioned using lots of 1 1/2” length pocket screws. The plywood you use is 3/4” thick and less. Would 1 1/4” length pocket screws be even better? Apologies, I am 100% new to this and am trying to learn as much as I can through your videos. Checking online it mentions 3/4” plywood would be best matched with 1 1/4” length pocket screws so was curious why you included the 1 1/2” length pocket screws in your build. If anyone knows please share! TY for making such an easy to follow video and the blueprints so accessible, it’s really motivated me!
If you download the plans he mentions you can see all the parts broken down and scale down the measurements for your needs. I’m doing that now and it’s helping me with my first cabinetry gig!
Excellent work and very inspiring! Curious, would the paint need to be mold & mildew resistant given that it's going to be in a steamy shower bathroom?
Hey thanks again for posting this vid. I'm going to make this exactly like you did, but I'm wondering about nailing and gluing the bottom of the drawers instead of using dados. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I'm embarking on building this vanity, shortening it by 3" to standard height. I've noticed you provide dimensions for everything except the height of the door front centers. I see they are 5 1/8" wide, but how tall are they on your original build?
I've just update the plans yesterday with a few corrected dimensions and added the door trim height dimension. Go ahead and redownload them to get all of the dimensions
Great video. Out of all my subscription, I have to say this has been the best earned subscription due to the quality of your explanation and mastery of this craft. Great video sir. You have earned a sub from me. Thank you for such a great video.
Thanks for the plans. You mentioned in the video that you created spacers for the top and bottom drawers when assembling the front frame. Do you remember what those spacer measurements were?
Thanks for posting that is exactly how I want to build my vanity. Best woodworking video I've ever seen! I liked and subscribed. One question - did you only use one coat of paint? Thanks!
Novice question: why did you make the face frames wider than the carcass plywood? Wouldn’t you have more room for drawers and no need for shims if they were the same dimension as the plywood?
When building a face frame vanity you need to use overlay hinges which only work when the face frame sticks out in front of the drawer cavity. If you want to maximize drawer size you’ll want to use faceless hinges
For those of you who have used this sort of plan to create a vanity, all in with materials does it realistically cost less than buying a vanity? If so is it by a large margin?
Thanks for the video and plans. Without these I would not have decided to build a non-standard 55" wall-to-wall vanity. Obviously I need to modify your plan dimensions to suit my 55" wide x 31" high vanity. I think I have got the horizontal dimensions fixed by adding 3" to all drawer widths but when I decided to make both top and middle drawers alike to reduce the vertical height by 3" I found problems with the plans. Adding all drawer front heights and allowing a 1/4" gap above and between drawer fronts and 5 1/4 for toekick, I show over 1 1/2" greater than the 31" height needed. Using the plan dimensions without changing anything shows the same thing. Is it possible that the bottom drawer front height is wrong?
I noticed in you had to cover up your drawer slides when you painted. If you had to do it over, would you wait to install the drawer slides after you painted?
I would probably still install the the sliders first. It’s not a big deal either way. The main reason I did them first was to avoid having to clamp on my painted surfaces. Sometimes it takes paint serval days or weeks to fully cure and I didn’t want to pull chunks off from my clamps
I've updated the plans with a couple corrected dimension. You can redownload the plans from my website here.

Perfect timing, I literally just found your video while looking for alternatives to the overpriced MDF junk at the box stores.
I downloaded your plans and see that it was designed to be 3" taller than "normal". Is there an easy way to convert this back to standard counter height? I'm assuming I would simply deduct 3" from the following parts:
Side Panels
Dividers
Back, front, sides, front center, and verticals of bottom drawers
Side and internal verticals of face frame
Verticals for doors
Height of the second from bottom horizontal drawer frame
Finally, it seems as though the heights for the drawer slides is a bit arbitrary as long as appropriate steps are taken to line them up properly on the drawers, is that right?

Q1) How do you fit all the required panels for 3/4 Inch into one 4x8' sheet? I am assuming a 1/8" kerf width.

My most optimal arrangement is (4+4+5.25+20.5+34+28=95.75) + 0.625 loss = 96.375
Obviously, I can compensate for the shortage of 0.375. However, I am wondering if I am missing something!?

You can make your own wood filler with saw dust and glue. Works well.
Keep up the good work!
I want to see the different types of bathroom sinks. Thanks 🙏
Thank you so much for this video and the plans,I'm thinking of making one and adding a top and a back, going to put it under the mitre station (of course made using your plans) as storage :)
what kind of plywood could I choose? can you give me some advices? if cheaper it is better, thanks a lot!
I used 3/4 sande plywood
thanks,I may chose the poplar core plywood!@@BearMountainBuilds
This was great to watch! You're an inspiration, man!
Am I missing the section of the plans where you give the measurements for the face frame/drawer spacing? Awesome video and I’m excited to get started.
Waooo amazing work!!! I really appreciate you time. I try to building this... Thanks for the plans🙏
Mate, briliant vid! Keep it up. From Australia 🦘🦘🌏🌏
one of the best cabinet/vanity build videos i've seen on YT....and i've watched a ton. great pace and clear instruction...also like how you pause after a set of steps to go over what you've just completed. keep up the great work!
Would love to see a kitchen island build!!!
How could I adapt this fantastic design to put in an undermount sink and what's the max width size of sink I could put in
Comes down to the dimensions of your under mount sink.
Look forward to having a go
New sub, here. Your video production and quality is top notch!
Thanks for the great content.
Very nice, well done.
Great tutorial! I have built the carcass and most of the face frame, but I don’t see on the plans or in the video what the measurements are for the spacing between the drawer horizontal pieces of the face frame. Can you post those measurements?
I updated the plans and they should have the dimensions
I just noticed that you have the grain going front to back on the bottom and sides as opposed to horizontal on the bottom and vertical on the sides. Does that matter? Maybe is that for using less on the plywood sheet? Thanks, just wondering.
It allowed me to use less plywood. Once you paint the vanity the grain disappears
Hola! 🖐Really, really nice build. You make it look like you have built hundreds of these. I'm still building the momentum to get going on converting my garage into my workshop and I can't wait to build cabinets for it. This video will be a reference for me definitely. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
Beautiful color. Nice work. I would love to build more of my own cabinets. I'm hoping to do a closet makeover and post it online.
now if I was shortening the carcasss by 6 inches what adjustments would I make to the drawers so this fits a 43 inch top?
Yeah it's 1-1/4'' pocket screws to be used with 3/4 thick material
I love this! Can you show something similar but smaller? I want to do this in my bathroom but the biggest I can go is 40".
If you download the plans he mentions you can see all the parts broken down and scale down the measurements for your needs. I’m doing that now and it’s helping me with my first cabinetry gig!
Are you really asking him to redo this project to your specs? Holy moly.
Excellent work and very inspiring! Curious, would the paint need to be mold & mildew resistant given that it's going to be in a steamy shower bathroom?
Most acrylic pairs will be resistant
What did you do with the top of the drawers that are only plywood you didn't edgeband them?
I sanded them. You could also do a round over. That’s what most cabinet manufacturers do
Wow...nice vanity😀
That looks great. You did a awesome job. How about some bunk beds?
Thanks I appreciate it! That's a great idea too, I'll add it to my list of projects.
Hey thanks again for posting this vid. I'm going to make this exactly like you did, but I'm wondering about nailing and gluing the bottom of the drawers instead of using dados. Any thoughts? Thanks!
It would be fine to do that but you’ll have to adjust the height of the drawer sides accordingly
Go ahead and redownload them to get all of the dimensions
what are your drawer opening heights? what did yu cut your spacers too?
All the dimensions are in my free plans. You can find a link to it in the video description
Bro this was awesome
This was a dope project. Integrated work bench build was cool too. Excited to see more.
Glad you liked them!
Do you generally remove the toe kicks from the sides of the vanity?
You don’t need toe kicks on the sides
@@BearMountainBuilds Is it typical to leave those on or remove them?
OMG! This has helped so much! I feel like I can do it too. You're the best! Please keep going. You're a great teacher and videographer. :)
What is that blue tools that you used to hold the wood to drill a hole for connections?
It's a Kreg pocket hole jig.
Here's the link to the one I use: amzn.to/3O8ITLB
Here's a cheaper option for one too: amzn.to/3O94SCf
Nice build.
You're awesome! Looks great.
1/4’’ gap between each door front
What is the correct opening height for the top and bottom drawers, it is not listed in your plans
Looks great good video thanks for sharing
Thanks for posting that is exactly how I want to build my vanity. Best woodworking video I've ever seen! I liked and subscribed. One question - did you only use one coat of paint? Thanks!
Yeah I only did one coat of paint
tu est un bon professeur
Novice question: why did you make the face frames wider than the carcass plywood? Wouldn’t you have more room for drawers and no need for shims if they were the same dimension as the plywood?
When building a face frame vanity you need to use overlay hinges which only work when the face frame sticks out in front of the drawer cavity. If you want to maximize drawer size you’ll want to use faceless hinges
Subscribed and will use your plans, great video!
For those of you who have used this sort of plan to create a vanity, all in with materials does it realistically cost less than buying a vanity? If so is it by a large margin?
Building this vanity instead of buying one saved me about $600
How long did it take you to make this vanity? Looking to use your plans to make a vanity for my kids bathroom. Thx
It took me about a month and a half to build this, but filming just about doubles the time it takes to build stuff
@@BearMountainBuilds How about in labor hours just to build?
@@BearMountainBuilds that makes a ton of sense! Hadn’t thought of clamping to a painted surface
