Feel like the vocals being quiet was an intentional decision to make for a more immersive sound and showcase the entire band
Its also the same vocal placement from Bullets I feel, its very OG MCR
I mean the guitar is also super pushed back in certain moments. Really hope it gets remastered because its such an awesome song.

I cried. The first time I heard it, I sobbed, and I'm not even sorry. I've spent the last almost ten years thinking that I could never hear another new My Chem song, and when it finally happened, I just could not handle it.

I just saw them in Raleigh recently with having the same mindset. I cried through the whole thing and I’m embarrassed to admit this but I think their breakup being such an emotionally traumatic moment in my life caused my brain to be on autopilot during the set and I remember being there but not specifics and lines I’ve been waiting to hear sung that mean the most to me. I’m ashamed that I can’t remember much from seeing them live, the moment I’ve waited over a decade for and a band I owe my life to.
When I first heard this song I almost cried due to knowing they finally came back, and I’m so so excited for their future(I love the heavier style to it)

First things first, I'm impressed how a band THIS big in this age is still able to pull off a suprise single. I know die hard fans amongst my friends that were completely shocked and in tears. I know they had shows planned and all, but if I'm not completely mistaken, that basically shocked pretty much everyone.
And as a metalhead pushing 40... I used to be one of those annoying elitists, and hated them pretty much by default when they were originally around. Entirely based on the image, the stereotypical fan and probably a few bits of songs here and there. To the point where the first time I can remember hearing "Welcome to the black parade" was in April. As in "April 2022". And it was suprisingly good. Everybody (except for me) knew the lyrics and was singing along, everybody was happy af, great. And this new song... it didn't really blew me away, but it's a damn good song, and it's kinda sad to think that I was too stuck in my own little "metal!" world and worried about what my fellow metalheads would think of me ot appreciate them for what they probably always were: a really good band.
How is it a surprise when the band reunites over a year old

the member's of mcr are fans of metal! you guys probably have a lot in common with them when it comes to music taste. try their first album, it's their heaviest, but you can hear the metal influence on a lot of later tracks!

I have a similar story! I basically didn’t give them the time of day when they first broke out. Mostly because of the kids who like them. In high school, you’re terrified to not be “cool”, and they weren’t. Then I ended up seeing them live when they toured with Linkin Park in 2007, and they FU$&ING KILLED. I became a fan that day and never looked back. Inveterate and irredeemable, lol. Welcome to the party.
This band, man. MCR got me through my teenage years into adulthood and they'll always be nostalgic for me.

These, to me, are the most powerful. He's talking about the twin towers and his experience that day and how he wanted to make the band. These feelings right here is what so many New Yorkers like myself carry with us.3
This song reminds me of all 4 albums of My chemical romance
The intro reminds me of "danger days"
The verses give me an "i brought you my bullets you brought me your love" vibe
The chorus is a "three cheers for sweet revenge" chorus
And the breakdown it's "Black Parade" style
I think the melody and chord progression is very Black Parade and the break down is a flavour of whats to come in a new era
This is their vibe before they got famous I hope you check out their old school stuff.
This!!!! Many don't realize that. I remember seeing them really early on back in 2002ish at a really small venue in NJ. This brings back so many memories!

I do believe them pulling back Gerard’s voice allows for fans to hear the entire band. I like to believe that they want to portray that it wasn’t just him that made the band successful. It was the entirety. I do hope that they allow for his voice to come through more prominently but I think it was brilliant for the very first song in YEARS. This song is amazing and gets better every listen. I can’t wait for more! 😁

I say the same thing but when I play it doesn't sound good so that is why they phrase it that way because they will go play it then lose there motivation

I'll be honest, I'm normally terrible at identifying the meanings of lyrics. But, after reading the lyrics those last lines, wow. I think you hit it on the head. For bands like MCR that had such success and made a huge impact with their earlier work, it is much easier just to sit back and reflect on those old successes and be too scared to try again. Fear of failure. I agree the vocals are difficult to hear, but I also agree that it was likely intentional. As a band and artists, they are crawling out of complacency and trying again.
I liked the way the vocals were built-in because it's like they are all as a band talking together as a scream and breath of relief
The moment they released the song, my rapper and K-pop loving friends were the first ones who went shit for this I even forgot that before they switched to other genres they first became fans of MCR.

@@nocentz4656 Are they supposed to sound like what they were before? There is a 8 or 11 year gap depending on your reference point since they released new music. That’s a lot of time, I think you need to let go of the expectation that they are going to be the same. It’s more exciting that way.

I've been a fan of MCR since I was like 14, I'm almost 29 now and they are still one of my favorite bands. I made a costume for my own Danger Days character. My first car was named Frank after the guitarist. When I heard this song I couldn't stop smiling and even cried a little. It means so much.

I heard the song on the radio, and wasn't expecting it to sound so heavy, but I guess they're getting back into their old ways. I already can't wait for the new album lol! 😂😊♥️

One of my favorite thing about seeing these reaction videos from this song is when the chorus hits for the first time, because everyone's reaction is the same.
It's always that genuine smile, it's like seeing an old friend for the first time in years.
We all know that MCR loves concept albums, so if they drop an album with this I would expect this to set the bar as far as the theme and story.
I still really, really want them to record and release Paper Kingdoms... I'm 31, and these guys are in at least my top 10. Been listening since middle school. His voice literally has barely changed.

Just wanted to say thank you for including SOAD in an MCR reaction, my two favorite bands! Also, I saw My Chem last week and it was so fcking magical!!
MCR have been my joint-first-place favourite band with Green Day for going on 16 years now, I first heard them after my mother showed me WTTBP when I was 10, and they helped me get through some seriously bad teenage years, I was completely devastated when they broke up. I didn't sleep for two days, wouldn't eat & just bawled my eyes out the entire time. They did & still do mean the world to me.
I got lucky that I got to see them live in 2011 on the Danger Days tour, and they were great. I also saw them a few days ago (May 24th) and holy shit! What an unbelievable show. Everything felt different, almost lighter, like everyone was floating. This wasn't a "beloved band from 20 years ago does a reunion tour for a quick buck & a boost in album sales" kinda gig, but a "this is what we love doing and we're finally having fun doing it again" kinda gig. I can't do it justice with words, but anyone who's seen them so far on this tour will know exactly what I'm talking about. This isn't a band reminiscing on the past, it's a band looking forward to the future. And I am so stupidly excited to see what comes next for them.

When I was watching the premiere, something about how this sounded kept nagging at me, but I couldn't quite scratch the itch... as I'm rewatching this reaction... I figured it out... this song FEELS like the Upside Down from Stranger Things. The darkness, the intensity, the sheer helplessness.... these men done made the Upside Down an actual FEELING.
I made the comparison to Smashing Pumpkins and I stand by, but there's something else there... a certain je ne sais quoi that can only be described as My Chemical Romance. These guys have such a distinct flavor that trying to quench it with other bands or genres just won't cut it. MCR is TRULY the voice of the "emo" goth crowd.

I always put it like.. if an Angel had knives for vocal chords, that's what gerard sounds like. Then you get Ray, Frank, and Mikey in there and it's like this perfect stewing pot of... some magical elixir of some distant fantasy feeling that swells up inside you with no explanation. MCR is truly the only of it's kind

5/12/22 was actually a good day for me, the best day I'd had in a while. I got home after a dentist appointment, went to charge my phone and THAT notification popped up- My Chemical Romance had posted a new music video.
"Are they doing cryptic s*** again?" No, it was a new song. I couldn't stop smiling and laughing and giggling as I listened to The Foundations of Decay for the very first time, and I wish I could experience it again.
The day it released i got a call from my mum saying "mcr has a new song" and i don't think i have ever woken up that quickly in my life, in not even 10 seconds i was to my PC blasting it and i literally cried hearing his voice... i am so glad they are back!!!!
Having the incredible opportunity to see this song live not once but twice is an absolute dream come true for me . I’ve love this band since I saw their Ghost of You music video on MTV so many years ago and to see how far they’ve come since then is absolutely mind blowing to me. What an experience of a lifetime to see this beautiful song live 😊🖤🤘🏻

MCR came on the scene around the time I was 20 so it was part of the soundtrack of my early adult years. Lots of memory tied to them.
What's cool about the new song and the tour, is that I'm getting to share my first impressions with them with my kids (ages 12 and 13 respectively) now. We've got tickets for when they come to Raleigh in August and we cannot wait.

I loved the music and I also can see a lot of a history of a band who was in their prime and "fell" from grace, as in was considered a emo band, them had a resurgence as people got older. And now they can look back and reflect in what we were and what we are now. In the foundations of our past. The foundations of our failures, and as the title says: Foundations of Decay

For me it sounds like I am listening to a recording of their song. Like I was out somewhere, heard them playing out somewhere pressed record and I am at home listening to my recording and it feels personal like its only shared with me because it's my recording.
