Christopher Cross an amazing producer, song writer, singers and musician. The best part o& the 80’s for me was his songs.
The man happens to be an absolutely brilliant lead guitarist too... technique, speed, taste and touch.
So true..i was surprise to hear him Axing his way...with great Lickks'' and heavy Cool sound!

I've been playing and gigging for 58 years. In the early 80s I was a serious sailor, but not a huge fan of yacht rock... I attended one of his early concerts, and was blown away by his guitar skills. Years later I found out that - like me- he had started as a trained drummer, and taught himself guitar before taking lessons. A few months ago I posted his name on one of those "Name a great unknown guitarist" and some moron commented that "Chris Cross is a rapper -- he doesn't play the guitar."

The most underrated singer/musical genius of our time. Sailing became one of the most sampled best of the hip-hop/RnB genre 2000-now. How does he sound so normal when he talks and sounds like an angel in his music?

I knew "Ride Like the Wind" was a hit after hearing the first 30 seconds of it. Why didn't those A&R guys know that? Because they wouldn't know a hit if it HIT them up side their heads. That song was a hit then and is still a hit now.
Absolutely love his song "sailing " . Its going to be the song at my funeral .

I was never really a Christopher Cross fan before but I really enjoyed this interview. Then I find out what a phenomenal guitarist he is. This amped up my respect and appreciation for the man through the roof. Hats off.

This man wrote one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and his voice was just the icing on the cake.

What an incredible talent. I recently listened to some Ed Sheeran and I have 2 say, as popular as Sheeran is... there's absolutely NO comparison. Christopher Cross was laying down tracks to "tape"... not computer. There's no cutting, copying, pasting, etc. It all has to be completed, in time, from start to finish. The quality of the songwriting, singing, performing, arranging, etc. is far superior. However, I don't think the more recent generations "can hear" the difference. They have no reference point other than what they hear today- DIGITAL. "Christopher Cross" was also a fantastic lead guitarist!!

Christopher Cross, I have to say, made little impression on my rock-addled young brain in the late 70's, just one of hundreds of talented people making great radio singles, but I got sucked into Rick Beato's analysis of his playing, and YT fed me this video, and here we are.

So great to hear the story behind his first album. I remember at the time wondering who this guy was that came out of nowhere and landed a top producer and the best of the best studio artists for his debut album. It makes sense that there was so much more to the story.
First time I heard this legend was in Dec 1982 in a movie theater downtown Copenhagen Danmark. It was snowing and the temperature was -20 . I fall in love with the song "The best you can do is fall in love".

Funny anicdote, your music is qualified in the biz as yaht rock. Quite amusing. Personally never listen to music when sailing, just love the silence and the sound of sails clapping away, and of course the occasional albatross , pelican or seagull.

His songs were playable, why not, in those days. We abandoned the idea because we couldn’t find a singer with that voice, which was the clincher. Only CC can sound like CC., so unique.
Wow -- The first song on his first record actually influenced by Boz Scaggs "Hollywood" - my favorite guilty pleasure song of all time.
He did the musical advertising for Dyer Electronics for many years. They installed car stereos and car alarms.

Unfortunately way too familiar with the biz from record labels and being on stage. Always have high regards for anyone who gets beyond the meat grinder, it's a giant leap. Love your material and voice, songs that will definitely surpass the test of time.
I wouldn't list him as a musical legend.... but I do enjoy a few of his songs.
After success of Sailing and the album, it took 39 more years for an artist to win the top four grammy awards at one time.

Warner Producer (Omartian) is the real reason Cross got in. Executives and A/R had heard Crosses demo for 2 years and were not excited until Omartian thought they were really good. Executive said to Michael if you like it then do it

Give Cross credit; when he went to make that first LP, he demanded that he get to use his own band and stayed with that outfit for many years, especially Rob Meurer. An excellent choice over Kinky Friedman and his Texas Jewboys (try using that today!).
