Chris watch miss m at the continental baths. Natural and amazing singing under Barry’s direction. Nothing compares to the first 2 albums, and her stint at the palace. From then on it was performance. Over produced, over costumed, over written by Bruce vilanch.
God, the beginning of her career was legend. A drag performance put together by bill Hennessy, manilow and Jerry Blatt.
So saddened when she became Bette Midler and tossed the divine miss m in the trash.

    A couple of notes:
    - First, Bette Midler…damn. I tell you, she was good enough to win Best Actress for THE ROSE two years prior.
    - Second, "Endless Love" is one of the greatest songs ever to come from an utterly shitty film. Why they remade it is beyond me.
    - Third, the winner "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" is most deserving and an immortal song from an immensely hilarious and great film. Damn shame it would be music awards darling Christopher Cross' last major moment of fame before his career began to plummet.

Midler's problem was that she was up against Sally Field! Also, what happened to Christopher Cross?

@@arthurgearheard4701 Cross simply peaked right at the start. Also, his adult contemporary style of music fell out of style as MTV emerged.

I like that they gave short acceptance speeches. Straight to the point without any political speech attached.

Loved how Christopher Cross was humble: thanked his parents - true to his San Antonio roots! Praying he makes a full recovery from COVID-19 soon (just read a complication for a time paralized his legs). Also enjoyed Peter Allen thanking the air control traffic people (the lyric "caught between the moon & NYC" was inspired by his plane once being held for 2 hours in a holding pattern before it could land @ JFK Airport) - a little bit of humor now. And of course I enjoyed the Divine Miss M
      s humor during her presentation!

I wish I could have lived during that era. I honestly believe I would have been happier if I was born 20 years earlier. It feels like my soul belongs to the earlier decades - to be precise, the late 80s and 90s. The world was getting more liberal and modern but it had still style - and also harmless joking was allowed.
I’m soon 27 and while the modern world has its perks I don’t quite embrace it as a whole. I miss the old music and movies (luckily we still have them), the warmer atmosphere and just a simpler world. It’s weird, I know. Maybe I’m just nuts. This is the reason I don’t really have friends my age. Not that I’m talking about these things, god no. 😂It’s just that it doesn’t feel right. I enjoy way more talking with people who are quite a bit older than me.

Four people shared the win for this great song, and they all kept their speeches classy and brief. If we could only see this again with the upcoming Oscars this year. I wanna go back in time. 😢
