And Burt Bacharach passed away two days ago. He gave the world so much unforgettable music. RIP Burt - and thank you!!
I didn't realize he helped write this too!!! Such a talent RIP
This woman is a hardcore comedian, singer and drama actress. God loves this woman.
RIP Burt Bacharach (May 12, 1928 - February 8, 2023), aged 94
And
RIP Peter Allen (February 10, 1944 - June 18, 1992), aged 48
You both will be remembered as legends.
I THINK PETER DIED FROM AIDS..HE DIED SOOOO YOUNG..SHORT LIFE OF TALENTED COMPOSER SINGER ARTIST. HES A CLOSETED GAYMAN & MARRIED LIZA MINELLI. THEIR MARRIAGE LAST FOR 2 DAYS.
And that's why Bette Midler always tops my Spotify wrapped list. She is one of a kind.
I love Christopher Cross it’s a shame we don’t hear from him anymore. He talks just like he sings. Love his voice ❤
Fun fact: His name is actually Christopher Geppert. "Christopher Cross" was the name he gave his band.
I loved him, too. He sadly had to sell his Oscar. Fell on hard times, I guess. What a talent.
I just saw him in concert a few months ago. It was super great to still see him out there. ❤️
@@emmalancaster2013 I can say from personal experience the Oscar sits on the living room shelf nestled among the 5 Grammies
@@markcasselman453 so he still has it? What a relief. Just mean rumors I guess. I still remember his pink house -wasn’t too far from my in laws’ home in Texas
Arthurs Theme, one of the most beautiful songs written by Carol and others.
Ela escreveu a letra. Quem escreveu a MÚSICA foi o genial BACHARACH.
Rest In Peace Peter Allen and Burt Bacharach
Master of reading a room - and working the crowd…. Genius… ❤❤❤
When Bette was Johnny's last guest on his farewell show, and she sang a tribute to him, it was so poignant and memorable. She was a perfect choice.
Bette Midler is one of the greatest entertainers to ever live. She's great as a singer, actress, and comedienne.
Studio legend and original drummer for Toto, the late Jeff Porcaro, was on drums for this great song. RIP
He did so much, 'Behind the scenes' drumming, he deserves even more credit than he gets.
This is one of the best Oscar moments EVER.
when the Oscars were still fun to watch....
ditto
It was a wonderful speech when Christopher Cross thanked his parents. Wow, someone thanked their parents. That’s fantastic!
👩🏽🦱🇺🇸
So great ❤
I remember this moment so well..."An Endless song from an Endless movie.." I fell off my chair at the Oscar party in LA!
The best Oscar presenter moment EVER!!! Bette nailed it! She was absolutely hilarious!!!
Check out Bette presenting Album of the Year at the 17th Annual Grammys almost a decade earlier. It was her FIRST smash as a presenter at an awards show! No one can "work the room" like Miss M!
I just saw Christopher Cross play last night in Lancaster PA with his band. Excellent music and he also can play guitar really well. He’s touring now, go see him if you can. Also Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues was on the same bill! Also great.
This clip is proof how brilliantly funny Bette Midler is!
She stole the show!
She's coked out!
lol!
Whatever....@@pjangels609
SHAK YA BUDDA SHAK YA ASS. is what talent today is........er......yah.
Bette was such an energetic fun presenter. QUEEN!
BETTE IS GOOD BUT ITS VERY OBVIOUS OVER-REHEARSED ON THE MIRROR. WHOOPIE GOLDBERG MUCH BETTER IMPROMPTU WITHOUT READING THE SCRIPT
I’ve always loved Bette’s movies and songs, however, she doesn’t care for me. I’m a southerner. And according to her, I don’t know what’s best for me and mine. 🤷🏼♀️
Damn she OWNED this moment with EASE 😍💌🔥🚨💫 This is WHY she is LOVED 💌
I wish that the Oscars of today had this much spontaneity.
start demanding it instead of being overrun with garbage
Mitchell C I have no idea what that means in the context of my comment.
Cole Son Music and Films It’s a decline/dumbing down of society.
every year they are more boring
I’m from the future. Will Smith will give spontaneity a new meaning. 👋
Rest in peace King Burt, personification of legend.
Soooooo deserving...this song still gets me in 2023!!!!
Better Midler should have been the Oscars host every year! She's hilarious!
"decided to rise to the occasion"..... when the speeches at the Oscar's were still real, and not completely orchestraded. When people still watched the show.... and this one is great! Look at the attitude with wich she walks towards the microphone! Love that!
Totally agree! The Oscar presentations have become so stiff and boring lately. They need to get back to presenters and hosts with actual personality like back then.
What a great presenter Bette Midler is... so much talent up on that stage... R.I.P. Peter Allen...
She has spoken highly of Peter.
UGH the 80s and 90s were the best eras for best original song I'm weak at how good music was back then, grateful we still have them to listen 💖
OMG I miss this time. If I could go back in time I would go back to 1981-
Burt Bacharach - Rest in peace and thanks for all Amazing music!
Bette Midler and Robin Williams really rocked the auditorium each time they are presenting.
I re remember watching this as a kid live laughing my guts out never forgot it Bette Midler was one of a kind is one of a kind
As much as I love Bill Conti's great song, "For Your Eyes Only" and Sheena Easton's superb rendition of that James Bond main title song, "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross, Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager definitely deserved the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1982.
YOU FORGOT TO MENTION PETER ALLEN
Bette milder is a natural god given gift to us
I'm glad I am in this generation to have witnessed greatness
Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) has great music and lyrics.
jwelch5742 *any song.
and For Your Eyes Only is better too
I so miss this era, when the Academy Awards use to actually mean something and celebrated memorable movies and songs that stood the test of time.
They haven't done that since the early 70s.
The Academy Awards were concocted for publicity since day one. If you were to review a list of films from any given year you would be amazed at just how seldom, how very seldom, the awards went to the real "bests" of any given year.
@@CaptainSpalding72 Yet the 80s as the most memorable songs other than the Shaft theme from the 70s.
@@blackguyofthesouth2161 70s
and when it was still fun to watch.....
I never tire of seeing this clip...
I love you Bette! Michael...
One of my most favorite song, real classic!!!
no wonder this song is classic..the composers are legends...
This is great. Bette is great. All of the nominated songs are great. The right one won, IMO. Still one of my favorites.
Christopher Cross has one of the best, most moving voices in the world period.
Burt Bacharach is pure class.
Thhis was so nice to see especially after we just lost Burt a few weeks back here in March 2023!
There were a lot of brilliant and wonderful songs in the early 1980's. I wish I was there to relive that moment in time
This is when The Oscar's had class.
I saw "Arthur" in the theater after it's cinematic release with my mom. Dudley Moore was so cute and cuddly.
No wonder, Peter was part of this brilliant song
We miss you Peter
Thirty years this year since "the boy from oz" left this world.
He came up with the line “if you get caught between the moon and New York City.” A brilliant lyric!
@@emmalancaster2013 The line that made this song just six words long.
Glad to find this on YT...I still remember the crack about finding some piece of junk in the piano bench after 40 years. She made the most of this moment and was having a blast.
Bette should just win for her presentation alone.
Damned right, James! I remember seeing this Oscar telecast and I never forgot it. Talk about original! Hilarious!!
I think that Bette just might be a genius,Her brain works in such a delightful way.
Right
the Bette you see here is not the same Bette I was with , she is a different person even her voice is different . And she was more Chubby ...
"How d'ya like it so far, kids?!"
She's hands down THE BEST!
I love Bette Midler... She's so funny😆😆😆❤️❤️❤️
Beyond well deserved. That stands. Bacharach - Bayer - Cross and Allen collaborated v. well. So well recorded, great studio group with Cross, special shout out to Michael Omartian on piano!!!!
R.I.P, Burt Bacharach. The legend.
Bette Midler time warped from the 1930s Hollywood... she is simply timeless
I wish the Oscars were more like this.
Bette-we need more people like you in this world 💛 #bette #bettemidler
Four people shared the win for this great song, and they all kept their speeches classy and brief. If we could only see this again with the upcoming Oscars this year. I wanna go back in time. 😢
One of her very finest moments. Bette we love you!!!
Christopher Cross, what a ledge and humble guy!
This is definitely one of my favorite movie songs it really captured the feeling of that time.
Endless Love was some stiff competition for best song its a great song too.
This was the only great moment from that entire evening. Nice to see it posted
Bette Midler is just fabulous
Rest in peace Burt Bacharach
She's hilarious, I wish all the academy awards were like this, not like today.
Out of all these people - Burt Bacharach wrote the melody, right. Its a piano composition. Which is what won the prize.
Congratulations Peter Allen. RIP Aussie Brother.
Ah yes, I was so happy to see this happen for Peter. He did some fantastic songs. Let's not forget Don't Cry Out Loud, Bi-Costal, Borderline, etc. Shame he didn't get much attention for his own work done by himself.
R.I.P. -- Burt, Peter and Misters Dudley Moore and John Gielgud. Had to be an extremely exceptional song to honor an extremely funny and exceptional movie. What a time for talent; what a time for life, the early 80s.
don't forget Steve Gordon, the director of Arthur, the only movie that he directed as he passed away in 1982, a big promise that we lost very soon
@@abrahamlupis9354 OK -- Steve, too!
When music, movies and tv were great ❤
"How you lik'in it so far kids!' HA. So much fun and , well,...enjoyable.
A lot of Awesome Memories from The 1980's!!
Bette is phenomenal as ever!
I saw Bette Midler in concert in 2005 and one of the last songs she performed that night was "Tenterfield Saddler", as a tribute to Peter Allen.
Bette can get in contact with the people so well and avoid any threshoald fear.
Seinfeld: So what if I like Bette Midler.
1981 was a year where all 5 nominated songs were great but Arthur's theme did deserve the Oscar.
The magical touch of Burt Bacharach, music legend.
An impeccable entertaining moment at an awards show that did not include a political agenda. Imagine there being a time like that when a person used their talent & not their opinion at a podium. QUEEN!!!.
Bette Midler was so positive and bright. Need more like her. Funny in a light-hearted way. And Arthur’s Song, there’s a true winner, timeless.
Rest in peace 🕊️ Burt Bacharach 🙏🥺
Bette Midler in 3 minutes upstaged Johnny Carson...love it
Ah the world when I was 25. I miss it. :'-(
I was 20 good days
26 for me. I miss it too!!!
I wish I could have lived during that era. I honestly believe I would have been happier if I was born 20 years earlier. It feels like my soul belongs to the earlier decades - to be precise, the late 80s and 90s. The world was getting more liberal and modern but it had still style - and also harmless joking was allowed.
I’m soon 27 and while the modern world has its perks I don’t quite embrace it as a whole. I miss the old music and movies (luckily we still have them), the warmer atmosphere and just a simpler world. It’s weird, I know. Maybe I’m just nuts. This is the reason I don’t really have friends my age. Not that I’m talking about these things, god no. 😂It’s just that it doesn’t feel right. I enjoy way more talking with people who are quite a bit older than me.
Most people know of the brilliance of Carole Bayer Sager, Chris Cross and of course Burt Bacharach. However, Peter Allen was also an amazing talent.
Back then in my country we had only bought TV just a few years back and never got to see something like this. Good old days of the 80s and of course, one of the best songs ever. What a monumental Oscar.
Bette as only Bette can be...stunning, entertaining and outrageous...and that’s why we love her!
That's how you present an Oscar !!!!
Ohmygawd, GIVE IT TO 'EM, Bette!!! She is a hoot!
Midler was GREAT in Down and Out in Beverly Hills
Bette Midler should be asked to emcee the Oscar's.
Awww Bette , you're on fire!!!! Thank You beautiful 😽
I absolutely love this song!
Amazing! Miss those times!! Bette rocked the house!!! Great music and an awesome movie. peace
I wish I could be Midler’s friend, certainly I’d laugh out loud every single moment!
What a year. For Your Eyes Only and Arthur's Theme. The best Bond song and a Chris Cross classic. I honestly couldnt pick if i tried
I felt For Your Eyes Only was snubbed!!! Bill Conti with Sheena Easton singing!!! Lethal Combination!!!
This was a "difficult" year for me, as I loved "Arthur's Theme," "For Your Eyes Only," and "One More Hour." Yes, my chances of a favorite winning was increased, but still...
cc has a beautiful voice even speaking
Bette Midler is a legend❤❤❤❤
Christopher Cross is one of my favorite somgwriters. I can't get over how young he looks....and he had curly hair. Awesome moment!!!!!!
I've always loved his songs. They form part of my life's soundtrack.
I forgot Carole bayer sayer wrote this too she is so talented
She just made up those lines spontaneously 😂😂 Truly witty and sassy.
They don't make them like Bette Midler anymore.
Chris watch miss m at the continental baths. Natural and amazing singing under Barry’s direction. Nothing compares to the first 2 albums, and her stint at the palace. From then on it was performance. Over produced, over costumed, over written by Bruce vilanch.
God, the beginning of her career was legend. A drag performance put together by bill Hennessy, manilow and Jerry Blatt.
So saddened when she became Bette Midler and tossed the divine miss m in the trash.
Whole lotta great songwriters back then.
Hilarious intro. The right winner, too. IMO.
Burt Bacharan !!!! 👏🏻💕💕
Burt Bacharach, also, wrote "I Ran(So Far Away)", performed by A Flock of Seagulls, also, 1982, ergo, Burt Bacharan (so far away)
