I love Neutra houses! This is great, Jop, once again. I love Neutra's attention to light for every room, his entire philosophy of design for architecture. These houses just ooze contentment. Many thanks again, Jop! Your channel is a treasure trove!
Thanks for your lovely comment. Your reaction stimulates me to make more videos! Always great to read that everybody loves the channel. More videos about Lautner, Wright, Neutra and CSH are coming up.
Hello Jop. Once again, you've made a wonderful tour for us. Thank you so much for sharing and allowing us to see these wonderful homes. You're the best!
Yes, it's a beautiful contrast. it's a great difference between the Hispanic style McMansion and this descent and stylish but small house. A beautiful example that bigger doesn't mean better. Money doesn't buy taste.
You're welcome. I like to give people a full and clear explanation. Showing everything about the house. Answering all the questions. So great to read that everybody enjoys it.
You're welcome! I like to inform people by showing the whole house and shows them a complete overview. More complete overviews of houses by Neutra, Lautner and Wright come up soon.
Just what I needed after hurricane Milton. (We were very lucky. Only two days without power and no damage.) Your calming voice, and intro to yet another interesting property, are good medicine. :) Thank you very much.
Oh great to read that you had no damage during hurricane Milton. Also great that I gave you some entertainment and relief after the hurricane. Your heartwarming comment stimulates me to make more videos!!! My apologies for a late reaction on your comment but I was very busy with work & private life, but I always respond!
Thank you Jop for another excellent tour. I always look forward to your content. It is pleasing to see a property not only survive but actually improve over time. Amazing small space that lives far larger than its footprint. I really liked the extension as a single bedroom. Thanks again and keep up the awesome work.
Jop, thanks very much for this great video. I love Neutra's work. I had never seen anything about this house. It's beautiful and elegant with the clean lines so characteristic.
Honestly: until a few weeks ago I'd never heard of this house either, but during my research for the video about the Eames House I stumbled upon this house as well as the Entenza house: both house are simple yet elegant. Very different than John Lautner (which is my favorite architect) but still I love them. Next video I will return to John Lautner: it will be about John Lautner's Segel House!
I'm usually a huge fan of big spaces over little ones because there's so much more opportunities to play with space if you have more of it. But I will allow that "small CAN BE beautiful"... if it doesn't FEEL small! I really have to admire how Neutra manages to combine light and transparency with privacy and cosyness in this design. Thanks a million, Jop, for once more expanding my architectural horizon! Until next time!;)
Thanks for your comment, always great to read them. Most Neutra design look larger than they are due to a clever use of space and transparency. More videos about Neutra house will come up soon. Till next time.
Oh great! That one of the reasons why I started this channel: to give these beautiful houses more attention. The designs deserves recognition. Great that you discovered a new gem through this channel.
@@SuperJobbel at first I thought it was the Kaufmann Desert House, then realized, I have never seen this! Did he design this earlier? It seems he was developing a theory on the pattern of forms.
@RyanJohnsonD The Kaufman desert house was designed in 1946 this one in 1948, so about the same time. Most designs by Neutra are similar and design from a formulaic approach: with a flat roof and arms pointing the landscape. So you're right! Most Neutra house from this period look like this
The pool removal is a big bummer, Ive tried to understand the addition for a while via the Neutra book (Nuetra Complete Works) but it never made sense. Now I understand how the childs bedroom was removed. Thanks!
That's one of the reasons I started this channel: to make the lay out of the houses understandable. I have read a lot books but never could get an overview of the design of the houses. Only when I started to search the internet and collected the photos: I puzzled the houses together! I had the same problem as you: didn't knew where the kids bedroom once was and how it was removed. Great that I can help other people with the same problems I once had!
Thanks Jop, for another great presentation on the Case Study program - well done!. I must admit No20 is not one of my favourite case study houses, it seems very much a lazy project from Neutra, not really as innovative as his other works. But pleasant enough all the same. I guess we forget what the norm was in 48' :) . G
Great that you liked the video. What's you favorite Casestudy House? I think number 20 is not the best (22 or 20B in my opinion) but still very lovely. Also very typical for Neutra. It's a top 5 of CSH designs.
@@SuperJobbel Hey Jop, there are many to choose from, that are both ground breaking and inspiring, but if I'm honest I am always really drawn to 21. I know its so simple (good design always is) but its that interaction of user spaces that I find it so appealing with just the right level of exposure and privacy within this design. If its materials were adjusted for current time, I think it is still very relevant to modern life. I run/own an architectural design studio in NZ called "Pure Design", so I guess thats my excuse! - LOL G
The simplicity and useful alignment of this build makes it as relevant today as it was then. Not spectacular, but that wasn’t the aim of case study houses. John Lautner took some of these concepts into account, and made spectacular. Thx for this presentation
Yes Lautner made his own version of a Case Study House with the Harpel 1 house, check my video about the 1st Harpel house, it looks very much like CSH design. Indeed not spectaculair but very economic and beautiful.
Yeah..well Maybe I'm gonna do a video about Ando, but first the primary focus is on Lautner, Wright, Neutra and CaseStudy Houses. But for sure Ando is on my wish list as well as Oscar Niemeyer and Ray Kappe. So stay tuned, a lot coming up in the future!
Yes, the neighbour house is a bit to big for my taste. But it was owned by the same person, so it's no if he can look from his own house over his other home...
Neutra houses are interesting, but a little too bare and industrialist-looking for my taste. They lack the artistic nuances of Lautner. Thanks for another nice vid.
Yes I think Neutra is a genius but Lautner will always be nr. 1 favorite and Wright my 2nd favorite, for the reasons that you mention. I love organic architecture over the industrial style by Neutra. More videos about Neutra, Wright and Lautner will come up soon.
I'll never understand peoples fascination with sculpted affirmations, they're so tacky and dumb looking. If my neighbor had that art piece up I'd consider something like "Eat, Defecate, Die" or something ironic and satirical.
That artwork is made by Robert Indiana an popart artist known for his paintings and sculptures of the word "Love" . You should Google him: he's an important American artist. Regardless of our taste in art.
@@SuperJobbel Its art that begs to be critiqued.. His work has become overly commercialized and his straightforward messaging feels superficial and lacks depth beyond the surface.. I'd feel more emotion looking at oh i dunno..? a piece of cow crap.
Classic Neutra design thoughtfully presented.

The difference in the beauty of the two houses in that last picture really shows how great this house was.
