Thank you for the great video. When viewing these famous houses, I always try to imagine living in them. Often, what looks great in photos, might not be very livable. For example, I would want more privacy than this house affords. Yet, blinds, curtains, and interior doors would ruin the aesthetic. For me, the best houses are both architecturally stunning, but practical to live in too.
Yes, that's true. Beauty and comfort doesn't go hand in hand together. Some architectural masterpieces are also known for there problems: the Farnsworth House is known for leaking being to cold, while Fallingwater is difficult and expensive to maintain. I think however that most John Lautner are very comfortable and very nice to live in.

Less is more is a great concept, being used in smaller dimension for ADU is something I plan doing. That is if time permits. Great presentation, like it.

There are still 9 brand new houses by John Lautner that are still not made into a video yet. I want to remake some older videos as well. So I will be busy with making John Lautner videos the coming months. Thank you! great that you liked the videos. I most of the drawings myself, but sometimes I uses drawings that I've founded on the internet. To answer your question: H beams are stronger and heavier, I beams are weaker but more lightweight. Because they are stronger H beams are for placing in the ground, vertical use and to bare the construction. Because they weight lesser I beams are better to be placed horizontal over the H beams. Both beams are named so because they resemble the letter H and I respectively ( seen when cuthrough) .

I have been so fascinated with this home. Thank you for answering almost all my questions. I am given to understand that the current owners are fixing the foundation of the house. Do you think there is a possibility of it being open for tours? When I get out to LA I'd like to see as many CSH as I can.
Great that you liked the video. I know that the house is currently under reconstruction, but honestly I don't know if the house will be open for public. I had the privilege to visit the house back 2015 and many (but by far not all) of the pictures were by me back then. But that visit was already 9 years ago and the house has now new owners and I have no contact with them. Case Study House #22 and CSH #8 are the only two that are permanently open for public, so they are easy to visit. Other CSH designs are still privatly owned but on rare ocassions they go open for public.
Yes, I agree with you: If I would own the house, I would place two glass doors in front of each the bedrooms. Still though, in the hot californian climate it's not necessary to close off a bedroom for heating purposes, but it makes the bedrooms more private when they have a door. Jop, again a great video. I like all the John Lautner houses, but this Bailey House is very appealing in that the simplicity and lack of ornament actually make the beauty. And the ponds are sheer genius. I wonder if they really work to cool the house? But visually, they are stunning, as is the overall effect.
This house is a far cry from the style by John Lautner, still I also like it for it's minimalism. I'm gonna make more videos about the Case Study Houses and Neutra in the future, because I also admire that other category of minimalist modernism. I admire it 2nd after organic architecture.

Hello Jop, thank you for all your brilliant videos. I want to know wether the steel roof is only on piece or an upper and a lower steel structure with some insulation between it. If it is only on peace of steel it would be very hot beneath and very loud when it’s raining….I know that because my garage has such structured steel roof . Remember that famous song … “Seems it never rains in southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before It never rains in California But girl, don't they warn ya? It pours, man, it pours“

It took me a while to figure it out and to answer your question, so a little late reaction: but Yes! there is insulation between to layer of roof plates. Partly to protect the inside against extreem heat but also, indeed, against the loud sound on those rare occassions when it rains in s. california. Both the lower part and upper part of the roof are made of steel, but there is isolation material and airspace between the two layers. I never heard of the song you mentioned in your reaction, haha!
There is still some space in the garden for a hot tube or small pool, so that is possible. Go ahead: the house is sometimes for sale, or otherwise you can built a similar house for yourself.
I cannot forgive that ceiling that looks exactly like a container, maybe it's the white finish that I hate. Love everything else though... Really nice.

Yes, the entire house is very container like. Nowadays you can easily built this style of house with containers, which is very cost effective.
@@SuperJobbel I think my problem is with the white, it's too harsh against the landscape. In my opinion, it also cheapens the whole feel of the house.

I would like to suggest that perhaps you should change the name of your channel, since you are no longer covering only Lautner. Perhaps something more unique. Please let me know! :) Still at the moment of the 45 videos 40 are dedicated to designs by John Lautner, so I think the name John Lautner is still justified, however in the future more videos by other architects will come, so in the future the name will be changed.
