ODST's even had better AI than regular Marines. As you can see, the Halo 2 AI ACTIVELY DODGES incoming fire, and even focus fires together when the opportunity presents itself.

When making Halo 2, Bungie actually made AI Behavior Trees that were so good at fighting that they made the player pretty irrelevant. This was intentionally nerfed for most enemies and friendlies.

They're not smart. They just move more often and therefore dodge more by accident. Watch the ones where the spartan is also there. Notice how the spartan and the ODST basically move the exact same but the ODST just move more often. They're not good, it's just padded stats.

It's like when people look at FEAR and say it has really good AI but it's just a basic look that works and they make it seem smart with some voicelines that don't actually corelate to what the AI does.
I feel like Reach's AI is weaker pound for pound in stats and damage/rate of fire, but they make up for it with more numerous enemies and some good squad AI. If you go back and play Halo 2 you'll notice that you end up fighting lots of waves of smaller squads many times in the campaign, with the individual enemies being able to put out much more damage. Getting killed by a plasma pistol jackal on Heroic in Reach is pretty unlikely. In Halo 2, it's pretty common. Source: Wife and I played through both games in the last month, I was pretty surprised at how different the balance was, vs my memories!
@@samc9133legendary reach ai has MUCH higher projectile speed, rate of fire and such on plasma weapons. As well as 3 shot supercombines on needle rifles. They also always go berserk when their shield is broken and they are within a couple meters from you. Alot of things that weren't retained in this video
It sucks that the AI for the reach elites just arent don't work properly outside their game.Kind of the same for the halo 2 ODSTs but they arent as complex as the later AI. Hell, the jetpack elites AI didn't even know what to do when flying. That was their rounds.

when i was playing through halo campaigns, i noticed that older ai's , ce+2, were modt effective and actually helped kill enemies during gameplay. im not surprised these guys were kicking total ass
after replaying reach I noticed that even your spartan allies do fuck all really. One of my favorite games but you might as well be by yourself again. Like the sniper mission with Jun? dude can't hit jack shit.

All of the enemy AI have trackers on their guns that always track to the nearest playable character. You can test it out by standing right behind a ally or wall and you will see the round track around your ally or wall to hit you. AI guns don’t track against other AI, so the Elites are having a hard time because they actually have to aim which they don’t normally do.

I just realized that, outside of multiplayer, Elites weren't an enemy for 6 years! They were enemies in Halo CE (2001) and 2 (2004), but none appear as enemies in Halo 3 (2007) or ODST (2009), only returning as an enemy in Halo: Reach in 2010! They were enemies again in 4, 5, and Infinite, as well as other side games like Halo Wars/2 or Fireteam Raven.
For real. Every fight the spartan was in they died lol. What humanity could have needed during the war was some crazed battle axe wielding dude running around.

Even they know the X Y Y R combo that allows you to shoot while reloading
Also always seem to go for headshots, so as soon as the shield pops they die almost instantly unless it’s a bad angle

Halo 2 AI is remarkably good when it comes to decent rate of fire. They constantly shred on normal difficulty.

ODSTs are (or were) an all volunteer unit. They're really something special.
Double volunteers: Volunteered for the marines, Volunteered for ODST selection.
Those dogs WANTED the heat.
