George Jones & B.B. King ~ Patches ***A MASTERPIECE***

- Опубліковано 31 бер 2011
- Two beloved legends join forces on the beautifully written Patches to create an absolute historical and musical masterpiece. Very simply put... "A vocal event for the ages." (Writers: Ronald Dunbar, General Johnson)
if only the country could get to this recognition of the unity of sweat and tears and pain of the many.
This song moves me to tears. 2 legends no longer on this earth. You must listen to the whole album! Duets all amazing and shows how all Americans should be proud of our shared musical roots. Ancestors from all the earth are part of this great country.
In the early 90's time life music introduced a CD called country, rhythm & blues that's how these to gifted musicians came together. The whole CD is good
made me want to cry cause i lost my daddy.
I know how you feel, I lost mine in 2002 when he was 56.
Like a lot of people, I love Clarence Carter's original version of this song- but, this is the best damn "cover" I ever heard. They couldn't have picked two better people to do the song... The King of the Blues, and The King of Country Music... Both men full of soul.
Just a point, the original version was made and released by soul music group Chairmen Of The Board, where Ronald Dunbar, General Johnson used to sing!
Clarence Carter's version was a cover of the original written by Chairman of the board.
Check Jerry Reed's version
@@PERSIOLINO_1001COVERS .mmm 11.
Both did this song patches wonderful
Beautiful it would be so wonderful if we could hear performances like this today. Two of the greatest of all time.
We create such divisions among ourselves, but these two musical giants showed us we have a lot more in common than we have differences.
George Jones has the best voice in country history.
My dad used to say that was the smoothest, whiskey soaked voice in the world.
Back when there was country music! Now days they all just about all sound the same!
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the legendary recording sessions that brought us this quintessential version... who are the 39 idiots that gave this a thumbs down?
Nobody cares. They are just that: Idiots. I've just stumbled upon this version of Patches. I was browsing to see some cover of that song and that one came up. There will always be a soulless idiot to dislike those things. I am just happy that I've found it.
If you don't like this cut ..you must be deaf or just stupid...and ya can't fix stupid!
those idiots don't know good music.
B.B. King and George Jones R.I.P
Makes my spirit soar. God bless everyone.
First time hearing this by George and BB❤❤
The song was written in 1970 by General Johnson, the lead singer of Chairmen of the Board, with Ron Dunbar, his producer.
Some things don't need to be changed or duplicated and this is one of these things.
This is the first time I've seen and heard this song.....a powerful song indeed......I'll never be able to fill my dad's or grand dad's shoes.....I'm nowhere near strong enough.......
Sure you can 💜
Absolutely fabulous!! Real music about real life, that has inspired all of us as Americans!! #REAL MUSIC ❤
Gives me goosebumps! RIP Mr. Jones & Mr. King...
Ditto!🎶🎤🎶🎤
song has made cry for forty damn years

Dam it's been out a long 😪 time I'm a big fan
Two of the best singers in history, gosh I'm glad we still have one and we had the other for 81 years. Such a pretty song
I agree. Raw talent and wonderful souls.
Love this version of the song RIP BB King & George Jones.
Tears every time I hear this version.
Rip George , this duet is the genius of Don Was producer.
Never heard this version of this song. Glad I found it.
I love Clarence Cater too but this is a special version. You have one guy who personified Country Music and another that personified the Blues on the same track.
The first I heard this it's great but you can't beat Clarence Carters PATCHES
@@charlesblair9585 I can understand your viewpoint too. I am a Clarence Carter fan. I love most of his stuff.
ain't nobody gonna fill their shoes
90% of what I do on UA-cam is listen to George Jones song. Like most of his fans, I believe that he hung the moons and the stars. This song is a wonderful gift to me in my old age. But I agree with you, Clarence Carter will always own this song. As you said, he meant it. This is just a great cover.
The lyrics in this version is clear and the rendition so moving you can help both have wet eyes but you are not alone, the guitar of B. B. King cries along with you.
Great that's all I can say
I've had this cd forever scince I saw the film version on pbs-THIS version is the reason this song was made for all those years ago.
You weren't lying, let me wipe the tears from my face. Thank You
I’ve never heard a song that can yank the tears right out of my skull and I’m not quite sure why
You can't listen to this song and don't shed a tear I don't care how strong you think you are
Wow! I'm sure Clarence Carter was impressed with this remake!
True "once in a lifetime event!"
My favorite mf song all time and I’m only 21 my Grandad one of the biggest George fans in the world grew up on it
Da vontade de chorar ao ouvir essa música 😢
Sometimes magic just happens. Two Legions spreading love.
Sometimes .

I love this song. Always gets me emotional.
Good luck to this beautiful father and son!!
I always loved this song....just watched Pawnstars and they were buying the Grammy for Ronald Dunbar the writer of the song
The truth be told
was blessed to hear this song live he sat in chair he got up to sing it he blew me out my seat
This is so beautifull amazing .!
i lost both my parents and it is so beautifull it gives me power to go on.
I LOVED how George took the time to partner up with some of the other great, great voices of his day, like B.B. and Ray Charles, as well as many, many others. His teaming with the two of them in particular demonstrated a dedication to and love of music for its own sake almost more than anything else could. Thx for posting.
Reminds me the long trips with my grandparents to Virginia, how I cherish those memories..
dang, I ain't ready for this
George Jones 👊🏻👍🏻🙏🏻💪🏼✊🏼!!!! B.B. King 👊🏻👍🏻🙏🏻💪🏼✊🏼!!!!!!
Excellent graphics to a poignant and memorable track. Stellar work.
Two of the Greatest
This song was an absurd success in Brazil with Titãs. I can imagine the country duo Vitor and Leo recording in this arrangement, with Nando and Sérgio's lyrics. Simply, Marvin.
Truly amazing! You did an excellent job! It makes you feel like you were actually there! The two greatest musicians come together and it works! Thank you!
WOW!!! THAT WAS WAS AWESOME!!! SUCH A CLASSIC BY TWO OF THE GREATS.
This is a great version, I also like Jerry Reeds Version.
Damn. Beautiful
Get the CD and the DVD-Rythm, Country and Blues-all killer songs!
+me sch I got it when it came out. All great tracks. I gotta dig it out!
:) One of the best albums ever!
I didn't know that there was a DVD! I have the cd
@@charlesbuchanan5287 I first knew about these recordings from PBS (played most of the recording from the DVD... Ratings time). Had to get both 😊
@@spydermama9513 soon as I get the chance, I will hunt down the DVD! Rainy Night in Georgia with Conway and Sam brings me to tears every time! 😢😞 So sad that Conway left us shorty after making the video!
Wow!!
This song pulled the tears right out of me
Pretty neat video interpretation of this. A song that sends shivers down my spine...
Absolutely 💯
The kid with the guitar at 7:34 is George himself, in Beaumont, Texas, at around age 12.
Amazing!
TRUE COUNTRY a song with heart
Genius💖😎
2023 still listening 😂
Same . A powerful hard luck story . I feel blessed it isn't mine .
So great.
Beautiful
BRAVO TO THE PERSON WHO DID THE GRAPHICS ON THIS. Only we born in the South can really relate.
Mr Smith you got it right!!!
Priceless I can so relate
Glad to know the Grammy is back where it should be.
I absolutely love the Blues, but have to admit that I have never heard this song before tonight... it is a great song, but this particular version is a little bit too "countryish" for me. BB's Lucille does her job wonderfully, along with her master :) Other versions of it I also listened to, are more to my liking, but as we all know, it is about different taste-buds... nothing wrong with the ice-cream :)
Best of days to you and yours!
Just to let all you Patches fans know. THE GRAMMY IS BACK ON MY MANTLE
THANKS TO THE GRAMMY FOUNDATION. Also my Partner General Johnson is now deceased I'm looking forward to seeing him in the Resurrection (Acts 24:15)
Every time I her it, I'm reminded of the day we wrote it. General had a love song called "I'm depending on you" I said that was to typical we needed something with more substance. , since you are from the south, lets make it a emotional life situation.
Ron Dunbar aka stilkickn
Mr. Dunbar - you have had an influence around the world. Check you tube for the song "Marvin" by Nando Reis. It's your song translated to Portuguese and to rock.
Ron all my friends and myself use to get excited when we knew The Chairmen of the Board was gonna be performing either in our hometown of Greensboro NC or while visiting Myrtle Beach SC. Nobody but Nobody could do Patches like the General. I can still see the sweat running down his face and he would have you believe that this was a true story about himself and as I would look around not a dry eye in the house. When I learned of his passing there was not a dry eye in my house. General Norman Johnson was a true treasure.
WOW, Awesome
I just love clarance carters original version of patches .. I'm crazy about it it makes me hurt inside so good like I likes it I cant hardly stand it but this version that I'm just now hearing it is truly a masterpiece a work of art alone with this video its got me in tears the way I like to be in tears, it is so well done crafted and real to me its a monument to all the patches of the world past and present young men forced into becoming a man out of a promise and a necessity its so beutiful and so right
thanks for the info.
Awesome...
Thanks, General(Norman)Johnson of Chairman of the Board for writing this song
wow
Thank you.

Two legends, a classic here that needs to get voted up I have this on Rhythm Country and Blues CD (MCAD 10965) is it on any other recording?
@StoneColdKrazy1 lol its why I just looked up the song myself!! Watching it on Pawn Stars on netflix now lol
Holy shit. This exists?
In the ending rifts, you can hear where Clapton got his influence. I have never heard this version of George Jones, who I say with Tammy Wynette, back in 70s. And the master B.B. King, they did a great job. I have the original version
