In Buddhism, it is believed that suffering arises from desiring what is not so. For example: 1. I want X, but I don’t have X = suffering. 2. I am in pain, but I don’t want pain = suffering. 3. Someone I care about has passed away, but I want them to be alive = suffering. However, the Hornsent culture would find the idea of accepting or being content with one’s 'state of being' anathema. They created belief systems that revolve around suffering itself, similar to Christianity's concept of penitence, where suffering in this life is believed to lead to future bliss. For the Hornsent, suffering has a divine purpose. The Lamenter, a figure who is content in their suffering and cries serenely, frightens the Hornsent. This is because their core belief is that suffering must elevate one to the divine. Finding contentment in suffering, rather than using it to transcend, is entirely incompatible with their worldview.
@@averypossiblememelord1566 I thought the jar saints pain wasn’t entirely intentional but the act of mixing them is. Also I thought horns were revered because they are a sign as an evolutionary and spiritual gift of the crucible and not for its inward pain.
@@screech5212 Pain is absolutely a part of the ascension to ‘sainthood’ of the jars as both the Tooth Whip and the Whipping Shack as a whole clearly paint the picture that the shamans needed to be broken both physically and mentally before they could be melded in the jars. I agree that the note about the horns was a bit of a reach but it was only mean to be an extra splash of ‘hey look at this’ instead of a main talking point; since they believed that horns were divine, the hornsent would’ve likely summed-up any self-destructive horn growth to be the will of the divine or something like that.
Btw 4:14 i do remember there being the teory that ,,blindness" ties down to divinity: prophet is blindfolded, the thorn sorccerers who found god in scarlet star after being blinded, as well miquela, like you *need* to be blind to commune with divine. As well as ranni and melina being one eye blind, as if they can commune with divine, but do not let it control them.
It could be a version of Plato's understanding of knowledge. His theory was that a group of men are chained up in a cave with their backs to the entrance. The only way they can see and interpret the world outside is by the shadows on the wall. One day, one of the prisoners is set free and they go outside and see the world for the first time. But when he returns to the cave to tell the others what he had seen, they would not listen. Believing that what he saw wasn't true since it wasn't displayed as a shadow on the wall. I believe the lamenter, having obtained the hornsent perceived level of divinity may have gained some truth that the others found undesirable. As a result, to protect their beliefs, they locked him away and continued to deny the truth.
The one eyed Fell god is said to be deformed, and the giants once showed aspects of the crucible ; the lamenter could represent the stunted Pygmy version of what the giants prior form
The lamenter's story reminds me a bit of how Mohg became besotted with the cursed defilement he was born into. Instead of hating his accursed state, he found pride and acceptance of it.
Weeping peninsula, castle Morne reference? It reminds me of the frenzied flame. Both seem to be related with extreme suffering and lamentation but with opposite results
Hornsent found an entity they didn't understand and found dangerous, and for whatever reason they couldn't eliminate it, so they created a special facility to contain it. Feels SCP-esque in a way
Lamenter totally connected to giants and fell god, weeping peninsula (where we have lots of Rauh style Ruins) and possibly the godskins with the flame. I also think with the blindness and suffering, frenzy connection is possible. We get the Tibia Caller in the gaol which is strange af. The chilling perfumer bottle solidifies the giant connection. We also get the clarifying horn charm which is good against frenzy and sleep. I believe this is hinting at something too. That bliss is what blocks the frenzy. Look at the two "woes" daedicar and shabriri, daedicar is in bliss and shabriri is frenzy. I feel a connection here. I also think there is significance to why it is in Charos Hidden Grave, flooded with the deathbirds. I cant say exactly what this is, but I have a gut feeling and am going to investigate.
I find it interesting that the Lamenters and Mohg have a connection in that Mohg was half blinded by his horn growing into his eye, while the Lamenter was fully blinded by horns growing out. Is the Lamenter a Hornsent Omen?
The Omen, the Misbegotten, and the Hornsent are technically the same thing, called by different names. In the Land of Shadows they are called Hornsent because their horned state is a sign of divinity, whereas in the Lands Between they're called Omen because their horned state is seen as a curse. In both cases, they are simply beings who have sprouted horns due to a connection to the crucible. That same connection is what defines the various Misbegotten.
It's worth noting, I think, that a 'crucible' is defined as 'A vessel made of a refractory substance such as graphite or porcelain, used for melting and calcining materials at high temperatures.' Such as, perhaps, the giant basin that holds the Flame of the Fell God, perhaps? In forging, a crucible is used to contain and hold raw material while it is being purified. So, what if the Crucible, this primal force that predates the Erdtree Order, is actually both at once? The Erdtree, symbol of growth and order, forged by the Flame of the Fell God's destruction and chaos, with the Crucible being the primal vessel holding them both? That's my theory anyway.
I think the color of the pate may indicate it was made in the gaol. The other ates are brown/reddish clay color while this one is blue like the underground around it
The Lamenter may be the missing link between the hornsent on one side, and the leonine misbegoten and Radagon on the other. The early Erdtree, the crucible, is tinged with red, the color of Radagon's, Leonines, and the Giants' hair, the horns are aspects of the crucible, with the biggest ones coming from giants, and Furnace Visage of the fell god has horns all around. Finally, horned red haired bears eat other horned beasts, focusing the spirituality of the slain creatures. The Giants may be the ancient discoverers/nurturers of the Crucible/Great-tree.
Last night I was really tired and was falling asleep to the Bloodfeinds video. Then I guess while I was asleep the old Lamenter video was removed and I in my state of literally popping in and out of consciousness I finally fell asleep. I was expecting to wake up to a video playing, but instead in the dead of night I didn’t wake up to noice and woke up to “This video has been removed by the uploaded”. What the hell woke me up??
Its funny how many times a faith connected to the greater will (the crucible's power is directly linked to the one great and greater will even before the coming of grace turned it into the ertree) go through a period of spiritual hardship then get some sort of peace on the other side. The hornsent attempting to ascend go through hardship and through the lamenter we learn that he found bliss through the hardship rather than pushing it away like the others, the flame of frenzy drives you mad but pushing through the madness results in a tranquil state, mages who stared into the medieval current had their minds overwelmed with what they saw but found rest in their bodies turning to glintstone.
I don’t think the red in their hair is necessarily connected to giants but rather a connection to the Crusible which we often see as tinged red. Then again I may be completely wrong about this.

Marika/Radagon was a booming success, so they thought to mix in a Hornsent to their next batch, because they would assume adding their own horned divinity would only make an even BETTER Saint. Well the Hornsent were right and wrong, this new Saint of Lamentation was created, and it's ability was infectious, a sorrowful joy that killed all who encountered it. It was like a walking disease and had to be put down... But it was too dangerous to fight so they kept it locked away in the same place it was born, among the Jars in the jail/Gaol.
And another point about ,darkness, : we see it used both as a ,magic, (tools of night hands for example ,shield of knight,) as well as a ,holly, (sword of darkness) so in my head cannon the actual first element is darkness, cause at first there were only darkness, then other stuff/elements begun to take form
