Thank you do much. I gave my trumpet a bath 2 days ago and my 3rd valve slide has been bound up. I watched this before bed last night and got my valve slide corrected within minutes this morning. This was exactly what I needed.
Best way to clean inside tubes is jewelers rotary polishing wheels with rotary toot. Fastest most efficient way to align is to get close then heat the joints until they relax. This is how it’s done in factories.
Thanks for the video, I never thought about using dent balls for checking parallelism, it looks easier than with calipers and there are less scratching risks ! Great idea. Also, for very snug third valves slides (mine, for example) I prefer using trombone slide o mix (or any trombone oil): it works fast, no dried grease/tarnish build-up... Definitely worth it I think
Thx for all of the helpful hints. I’m finding your videos extremely helpful since I am mostly self-taught. The brass videos in particular have been a great resource. Keep them coming!
I did not know how important an accurate flat surface was hard to find until looking for a trombone slide stone. I have a small square that might work for this type of repair just need to find it.
If that's lime on the tuning slide, then the best and easiest thing to use is pure white vinegar. It will bubble and smoke but it will harm nothing but the lime. What I'm not sure about, as if it would hurt the lacquer if it's splashes. But the metal will be safe, it won't harm copper as far as I know
Mine fell off of my trumpet stand and now they stick. The bottom most slide seems to stutter when placed in the horn. There is a brace in the middle and no visible dents. Not sure what to do with it
It is hard to say without seeing it. The crook may need to be unsoldered and the dents removed enough to get the slide unstuck. Then you can use a trombone slide mandrel or a tapered mandrel to tap out the dents.

great work. What is the thing you used to clean/polish the slides?
It is wicking material that is intended for kerosene lamps.
do you have links on where to buy the buffing compound and the kerosene lamp wicks?

Wow so much goes Into making that third slide to work efforlessly 😰
How do you take out a slide that is stuck and doesn't come out of the instrument?
Excellent!

Why not use a caliper?
My horn has a dent in the first valve trigger - in the straight tubing - that locks the slide to the fixed piece of tubing. How do I fix that?

My trumpet us over 40 years old mad in ussr west Germany! I can't even take the 3 tuning side out!
Muito bom.

Does This work for marching baritone
Yes, the repairs should be the same.
none of these work at all. I have spent countless hours trying to get my 3rd slide to move smoothly.
There may be another reason. If you want to send it to me, I can try to fix it for you.
