Early 70s, Burdon came here and helped kickstart the group “War”, Spill the Wine, buy that’s all they needed ! If you want to hear the funkiest Afro/Cuban/ Latin licks there are, 2 of thier albums “ All Day Music” and “ The World is a Ghetto “ go ahead ! Welcome to the 70s ! :) and since I got you back there, lol, James Brown “ Papa don’t take no mess “ long version, is the absolute creation of modern day funk !

An on the money reaction 💰! Eric Burdon is the lead singer. I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to The Animals before: House Of The Rising Sun and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood. We Gotta Get Out Of This Place was released as the third single from The Animals' 1965 album: Animal Tracks. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. It was produced by Mickie Most. The song reached #13 on the Hot 100. It also peaked at #2 in the UK and in Canada. This performance is from the 1967 film: It's A Bikini World.
The Animals producer Mickie Most heard this song and had the band record it. He was looking for American musical material as he was trying to break the band in the United States, and had a call out to the New York City songwriters in the Brill Building and 1650 Broadway looking for songs.
The Animals' lead singer Eric Burdon came in #57 in a Rolling Stone poll to find the greatest singers of all time. On this song, he delivers an anger and energy that was an influence on later Punk bands. In our 2010 interview with Eric Burdon, he said: "I've always viewed myself as a Punk. The Animals could have evolved that way. We had the energy and the anger, but we didn't stick together. When the Punk scene became commercial, I was all for the politics of the movement, but the music didn't really stand up and ultimately, it was self destructive".
There are two entirely different recordings of this song by The Animals. The US single version is an alternate take, shipped to MGM Records, The Animals' American record label, by mistake. Nevertheless, this is a far superior version of the song. Unfortunately, it's this version that's played by almost all Oldies radio stations today.
At the 2012 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Bruce Springsteen talked about this song when he gave the keynote speech. After reciting the lyrics, he said: "That's every song I've ever written". Bruce Springsteen was referring to his penchant for writing songs about getting away in search for something better in life.
The song's title and theme have become a common cultural phrase over the years. It formed the basis for the title of academician Lawrence Grossberg's book: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place: Popular Conservatism And Postmodern Culture" (1992), detailing the conflict between American Conservatism and Rock culture. Similarly, it formed the title basis for Gerri Hirshey's 2002 book: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place: The True, Tough Story Of Women In Rock". It has also been used as the title of editorials by American Journalism Review and other publications. The title was even used to name an art exhibit, curated by Stefan Kalmár at the Cubitt Gallery in London in 1997.
The song is featured in the 2016 video game 🎮: Mafia III.
The song has been covered by many artists including 📻: The Partridge Family, Blue Öyster Cult, Alice Cooper, David McCallum, Robin Morris, Fear, The Angels, Steve Bender, Gilla, Arthur Brown, Ann Wilson ft Wynonna Judd, Space, Denmark + Winter, Eric Burdon w/ Katrina And The Waves, I Delfini, The Savages, Grand Funk Railroad and more.
The song has been featured in some films including 📽: The Donut Dollies (2019), Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004), Shindig! Presents British Invasion Vol 2 (1999), Hamburger Hill (1987), It's A Bikini World (1967) and more.
The song has been featured in some TV shows including 📺: From ("Long Day's Journey Into Night" - 2022), Supernatural ("A Little Slice Of Kevin" - 2012), Heroes ("Into Asylum" - 2009), Absolutely Fabulous ("The Last Shout: Part 1" - 1996), Tour Of Duty ("USO Down" - 1988), The A-Team ("Beneath The Surface" - 1986), Miami Vice ("Glades" - 1984) and more.
    Legacy 💎:
The song is included on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll" list.
In 2004 it was ranked #233 on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.
In 2011, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

    Lyrics 🗒:
In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refused to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in tryin'
Now my girl, you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know
Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away, oh yes I know it
(Yeah!) he's been workin' so hard (yeah!)
And I've been workin' too, baby (yeah!)
Every night and day (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
'Cause girl, there's a better life for me and you
Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true, yeah
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know it
Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey, yeah
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away
I know he's been workin' so hard
(Yeah!) I've been workin' too, baby (yeah!)
    Every day baby (yeah!)
    Whoa!
    (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
    Somewhere baby
    Somehow I know it, baby
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
    Believe me baby
    I know it baby
    You know it too
    The Animals Info 📰:
The Animals (also billed as Eric Burdon And The Animals) are an English Rock band, formed in Newcastle, England upon Tyne in the early 1960s. The Animals are known for their deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon and for their gritty, bluesy sound, exemplified by their signature song and transatlantic number-one hit single: "The House Of The Rising Sun", as well as by their charting hits including: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", "It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Crying", "See See Rider" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". They balanced tough, Rock-edged Pop singles against Rhythm-and-Blues-oriented album material and were part of the 1960s British Musical Invasion of the US. They released 20 studio albums, six compilation albums, five EPs and 25 singles.
The Animals underwent numerous personnel changes in the mid-1960s, and suffered from poor business management, leading the original incarnation to split up in 1966. Eric Burdon assembled a mostly new lineup of musicians under the name "Eric Burdon And The Animals". The much-changed group moved to California and achieved commercial success as a Psychedelic and progressive Rock band with hits including: "San Franciscan Nights", "When I Was Young", and "Sky Pilot", before disbanding at the end of the decade. Altogether, the group had 10 top-20 hits in both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100.
The original lineup of Eric Burdon, Alan Price, Chas Chandler, Hilton Valentine and John Steel reunited for a one-off benefit concert in Newcastle in 1968. They later launched brief comebacks in 1975 and 1983. Several partial regroupings of the original-era members have occurred since then under various names including: The Animals, New Animals, Eric Burdon And The New Animals.
In 2008, an adjudicator determined that original Animals drummer John Steel owned "The Animals" name in the UK because of a trademark registration that John Steel had filed. Eric Burdon had objected to the trademark registration, arguing that he personally embodied any goodwill associated with "The Animals" name. Eric Burdon's argument was rejected, in part because he had billed himself as "Eric Burdon And The Animals" as early as 1967, thus separating the goodwill associated with his own name from that of the band. On September 9, 2013, Eric Burdon's appeal was allowed, and he is now permitted to use the name "The Animals".
In 2016, Eric Burdon formed the current lineup of The Animals including: Johnzo West (guitar/vocals), Davey Allen (keys/vocals), Dustin Koester (drums/vocals), Justin Andres (bass guitar/vocals), Ruben Salinas (sax/flute) and Evan Mackey (trombone)

      Legacy 🛡:
The original Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, although Eric Burdon did not attend all the other original band members were there but they did not perform.
The Animals' bass guitarist, Chas Chandler, was the first manager of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
In 2003, the band's version of the song: "The House Of The Rising Sun", ranked number 123 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. Their 1965 hit single: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", was ranked number 233 on the same list. Both songs are included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
The RIAA ranked "House Of The Rising Sun" number 240 on their list of "Songs of the Century". In 1999 it received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. It has long since become a staple of Oldies and Classic Rock radio formats. A 2005 Channel 5 poll ranked it as Britain's fourth-favorite number one song.
On March 15, 2012, in a keynote speech to an audience at the South by Southwest music festival, Bruce Springsteen discussed The Animals' influence on his music at length, stating: "To me, The Animals were a revelation. They were the first records with full-blown class consciousness that I'd ever heard". Of the song: "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" (written by two New York songwriters, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil), Brice Springsteen said: "That's every song I've ever written ... That's 'Born To Run,' 'Born In The U.S.A.', everything I've done for the past 40 years including all the new ones. That struck me so deep. It was the first time I felt I heard something come across the radio that mirrored my home life, my childhood". Saying that his album: Darkness On The Edge Of Town, was "filled with Animals", Bruce Springsteen played the opening riffs to The Animals' song: "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", and his own song: "Badlands", back to back, then said: "Listen up, youngsters! This is how successful theft is accomplished!".
Tony Banks, keyboardist of British progressive Rock band Genesis, drew influence from The Animals keyboardist Alan Price, whom he regarded as "the first person who made me aware of the organ in a Rock context".
