Reading a good book and ballet are the best joys in life :-)
There's no room nor cause for disagreement w you on this, Moody!
I second that..!
In addition to a few other things. 🎃. 🎃. 🎃
That’s funny, I got here from a mention in The Handmaid’s Tale book
MOODY Thank you for that, I totally agree.
Today my father would have turned 91. I decided to put together a concert of pieces he loved. This had to be part of it.
Chopin’s music brought to life in full orchestration in this stunning mini ballet
So nice to see so many dear old colleagues and friends,, the beautiful ABT corps de ballet ladies of the MISHA years. Everyone of them so beautiful and good natured. The last years of the golden age of dance
soooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful
For those that are of today's age, Ballet Theater, as it was then known, was the last complete oversee by Michel Fokine of his ballet and Dimitri Romanoff, regisseur, was in charge of rehearsing this ballet. I came into the company in 1958 as a corps dancer with Michael Lland, Royes Fernandez, John Kriza and Erik Bruhn being the male stars. The lady ballerinas were Ruth Ann Koesun, Nora Kaye, Violette Verdy, Lupe Serrano. The second soloists also danced some of the roles sometimes. Still my favorite "white" ballet and this is a marvelous production. Dimitri was a task master for this ballet and the corps girls were not too pleased when this was scheduled.
Eric Bruhn was the boyfriend/lover of Rudolf Nureyev. Nureyev got AIDS from Eric and died young, as a result. I met Nureyev in Hawaii where my father played in the orchestra for Nureyev. I was on stage during the dress rehearsal and made eye contact with him. Now I know he was gay, maybe he was checking me out?!
curriepederson2141 I studied with Dimitri and Francesca Romanoff in at the San Jose Ballet School. Yes Mr.Romanoff was a task master.
@currie pederson My ballet teachers, Robert and Carol Brotherton Hanlin also danced with ABT about the same time. When Carol taught us Les Sylphides, she said the same thing about Michel Fokine overseeing the ballet for ABT. That always made me feel special and that we had the true choreography. Our regional company has since repeated Les Sylphides with my daughter dancing in the corps. However, they were taught the Royal Ballet version. I am going to share this version with her and your comments. Thank you for sharing, Diana
La nostalgique de Chopin est magnifique...
Just lovely, soulful, the music of Chopin, choreography, dancers. Best version i have seen.
What an esthetic audio, visual experience.
Someone said dance makes music visible, it applies so much here.
Thank you!
BEAUTIFUL!! I love Les Sylphides.
@@minola9046 Si ça peut servir, nocturne op 32 no 2 :)
What a treat thank you so much for the Post
Stupendo balletto per una musica splendida. Tutto è armonia e melodia in un intreccio d'arte semplicemente unico.
It could not be more beautiful.....perfection!
Magnífico !!!!! "Les Sylphides " con música de Frederik Chopin . Congratulations !!!!! -
Gracias Maria.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video !!!! .
Fokine's great summation of romanticism. Gossamer lightness, the ethereal sylphs ( air elementals ) The first plotless ballet ? The male dancer variously described as a poet, or even the personification of Chopin.
Yes, it was the first plotless ballet, at least on an international scale.
The ABT has just started a run of this wonderful ballet (Nov. 2013). I look forward to the reviews and hope to see it. Such a perfect marriage of Chopin and dance.
This is like musical/balletic Xanax. Soothing, transcendent, achingly beautiful.
Yes, Judy you are so right!!
Lindissimo
adoro nunca me canso de ver
This physically hurts with how perfect it is.
I could & do watch this over & over. Thank you, my favorite.
Que maravilloso Ballet
Magnifica esta peça clássica!
This is my favorite ballet. It has everything (except a male chorus). Fokine was a genius as was, of course, Chopin.
Bighin GIULIO RENZO
I just watched this and it was the most soothing thing ever. :)
My favorite ballet ever!
Gracias ,,!
Juste splendide. On se sent s'envoler avec eux!!!
Bravo brilliance grandiose genial fantastic ballet dance super
19:38 might be the most graceful thing I have ever seen. I wish I could see this live.
Hermoso, de principio a fin. Música y baile. Beautiful from the start to the end. And dancers are perfect...
Wow thank you so much for uploading this!!!
Every time I watch this beautiful performance I remember how much we love to find order in our universe. The choreography and staging remind me that art has the ability to bring divine proportion on the otherwise chaotic world of human error and misdeeds.
Waltz in C sharp Minor, Opus 64, No. 2 begins at 18:26.
Thank you.
Thanks man
True, with a few seconds of the C#minor Etude, Op.25
@@vitiachao9765 This takes me way back -- I must have been 11 years old when I first heard this: from a big box of classical LP recordings that my father bought. This is music for my soul, especially now that I have adult concerns.
Degas painting come to life.
If this was filmed just 8 years ago, then Baryshnikov is in his 60s, dancing! His leaps are still incredible! Lovely and exquisite production! Chopin and ballet, a marriage made in heaven!
Yes, he is miraculous !
(but he is not a wizard ... this was filmed in 1984, he was 36) ;-)
@@MMMa3 haha...thank you! But seeing how he's able to do some of those leaps and incredible spins, anyone would think that he was! He was amazing!
So Beautiful!😍 Perfection!!!✨✨✨
Lindo! Beautiful! Prelude is my favorite variation!
Maravilhoso.
Beautiful! 💖💖💖
Maravilloso, tantos recuerdos . Me encantó escuchar y ver este video.
Esto es hermosisimo, poesia pura.
Who else is reading The Handmaids Tale??

How beautiful !! Thank you for sharing a wonderful video.
Opening nocturne op.32 no.2 is just too perfect
I miss you David. You are the most beautiful soul with the kindest heart and that VOICE. What I wouldn’t give for another conversation with you at the Wild West way back when, all I did is ask you where Rick was…wish I had gone to the PP with you from the Crazy Horse when you swept me off of my feet…albeit in stilettos of course and you in sneakers…ahhhh such memories! 😉😊
Magnifico, splendido, eccellente.... non ho parole!
Magnifique !
so beautifully and gently
beautiful!
Excellent ....mesmerizing ....and i'm not even into ballet/theater....
Amo el ballet clásico!!!!
Es una bela arte.
wonderful
quisierá escuchar rios de fuego
Belíssimo .
Awesome. So exceedingly soft and melting that I kind of missed the bolder, more carpenter-like approach taken by Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.

I'm supposed to be doing homework
me too lol have physics test tmwr
This is homework.
Me too
Dear lord why is this me -

Whose arrangements are they using? ... Benjamin Britten was commissioned to do an orchestration for this company when he was in New York at the start of the 2nd world war, so maybe the ballet is being danced to his version. At any rate, the arranger's name should have been mentioned in the credits.
lindo

FIERCE.

Curious. I found a page of Fokine's notes on the opening floor patterns and he had three more dancers on each side wing. I wonder if abt's choice of a smallee corp du ballet was budgetary, technical, or whatever. Given the location, not due to the size of the stage I guess.
I supposed to be doing some kind of homework for ballet📑📓📝
Handmaid's page 70, anyone?
Truly the golden era of art in the US!
music:Chopin Nocturne Op. 32 No. 2 in A-flat Major

Hi! I'm working on a documentary about ballet. I was wondering if I could use a small clip of this in the film and credit you at the end? Please comment back yes or no! @Riccardo D'Avila
made me cry :( jajaja
Me, too. Pure in its beauty as few things are these days.
Who's dancing the variation from 8:22 to 10:41 ❤️💙
Cynthia Harvey
Cynthia Harvey was amazing! Always one of my faves.😊
Cynthia Harvey is the Mazurka?
What is Chopin's Nocturne op 32 no 1 doing here?
There is no Cynthia Gregory
Oh this is Chopin along w/ classic ballet. Only American audiences applaud between movements.
I'm learning the variation at 8:10 at my SI
I'm supposed to be working :x
And instead, you were doing something awesom'er
