I’m so grateful to Barbie for being a children’s media that gives a genuine exposure and appreciation to ballet and the classical arts. I appreciate so much when the arts are given equal importance in children’s education, especially when they’re young. Learning to appreciate the arts as a child is so helpful in fostering creativity, empathy, and a greater appreciation for the social and cultural value of art as an expression of human nature.
And I am grateful to my little sister for renting that video out of Blockbuster Video. If she didn’t rent it, I wouldn’t have been introduced to this beautiful love story.
The swan lake theme literally stuck with me since I was like 7. Many scenes from the barbie film stuck with me too, it's like my mind took a screenshot and kept it with me throughout my life
It was released on my 6th birthday. My sister (who was 3 at that time) and I used to go to Blockbuster on weekends. We got out different movies every week. I got out animated Batman movies, she got out Barbie movies. When I got out Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, she got out Barbie of Swan Lake. And all too often whenever I came home from school, my sister would be watching the last 20 minutes of the film, and others like it.
There is no more beautiful art form than the ballet. My mother was a professional ballet dancer in Paris during the German occupation of WW-II, and despite blackouts and curfews, nothing could stop her from training and getting to rehearsals. It takes that kind of commitment to achieve a goal. Mother passed in June this year at 96 and I will always be grateful for growing up with this music and knowing she lived out her dream of becoming a dancer in Paris.
@@ketaminetuesday Thank you so much! I am still in a state of intense grief ten months later. Mom was my constant companion and we got through hard times and had many fun times together. Now that she's gone, there's no other loss that comes close. I may be a senior, but she will always be "Mommy" to me. God bless you!
I was a sports athlete. I define athleticism as one's relative ability to control movement of the body to achieve a desired result. In the category of dance, these dancers most certainly fit that definition, achieving spectacular results. Your description is 100% correct.

In 2014 I strolled down to the Met I wondered why so many people were streaming into the auditorium, there was a ballet performance. I noticed a woman holding a ticket for sale. Without asking what was on the program I purchased the ticket. To my surprise a fantastic prime seat. The curtain went up, was I in heaven? Swan Lake i was in tears, one of the highlights of my life.

Anyone who thought you did a spoiler needs to realize "Swan Lake" is a folk tale ballet, not an Agatha Christie whodunnit. Thanks for timing the juciest bits!
Actually in this version, they use the original ending of the ballet, where the evil sorcerer is defeated,(when the Prince tears off his wing) breaking the spell, and as dawn breaks, Odette and her handmaid's are now human again. (Many productions go for a tragic ending, but I prefer this one. It fits the uplifting music, which was written that way with a happy ending in mind.)
You´re absolutely right ... as many others were ( genius ) and many others are ( genius ) ... the problem here is ... why are youngsters today calling Bad Bunny a genius ? ... I don´t think we are talking about the same thing ... Why can´t we add Ballet , Opera , Classical Music to the mandatory primary school programs ?
When I was a child, my father sat me down in his big easy chair, he placed his headphones on my head and had me sit back, close my eyes and listen to Swan Lake. I was transported to this beautiful ballet in my imagination. I will always be grateful to my father for introducing me to the wonders of music and imagination!

This ballet is incredible. It’s my absolute favorite of all time. Something that doesn’t get enough recognition however, is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s fantastic score for this ballet. The music is depressing, elegant, intense, magical, and seductive when it needs to be. May credit also be to the talented orchestra and conductor, as they are just as important and needed as everyone else involved.
My daughter danced the role of Odette in 2001. Ballet is the only musical performance genre where you have to glean the story from the music and nuances of dance and movement. This is my favourite ballet of all time and its incredibly difficult to get right. It was the height of my daughters career after also performing in NutCracker. It was the culmination of 16 years of dance right through school and some weeks she put in 18 hours of practice. It was a journey she took me on and I never pushed her, just supported her. A year later she ruptured a disk in her spine in rehearsal and her career was over instantly. Now she is a senior executive in a major corportation. Its the most incredible character building experience you can give your child.
So sorry about her career-ending injury, but happy that she got to perform in "The Nutcracker" and then dance the starring role in probably the world's most well known and loved ballet, "Swan Lake".
Parents need to support their children and educate them to make them shine and achieve their their goals and dreams in life. No one get every thing they dream of but trying to get there makes the person who they are.

Animals understand each other without words , people can't , we are not so smart . When we try , we can do it as well ! I'm happy for you . Try to watch the movies without volume ,later you might get the same result. Have a great day !
I agree, but the cultural context of that is really fascinating. You or I get what the dancers are saying-- there's all these dance storytelling conventions that we've been exposed to so long that it's obvious to us. I thought this language of dance was universal. Then, when I studied a little bharatanatyam-- Indian classical dance-- I realised that other cultures have really different storytelling conventions. To the Indian dancers it was so obvious what they were saying and what was being said, but to me it was literally like learning another language of movement. The same goes for music. It seems so universal to us that major is happy, minor is sad, etc... but fascinatingly that isn't always cross cultural. It even changes across time; Mozart's Queen of the Night aria sounds oddly sweet and pretty for a song about murder to us in modern times, but a listener of his period would have absolutely understood the musical conventions being used. Modern opera singers have to inject way more menace into their performances of that song, and their acting, to get the same point across. Really interesting stuff.
My favourite ballet ever will always be and has always been swan lake. Every time the ballet season would start,my mom would take me to see the swan lake or whatever was on the repertoire, and the toddler me would just sit back and enjoy pretty ballerinas dancing around. Those are truly the best memories from my childhood and i dont care if anybody says that ballet is boring amd meaningless. Its a form lf art thats not for everybody to understand and appreciate.
That’s a great story! I remember watching the Barbie movie, and I ADORED it. Then I got into ballet. Now I’m auditioning for the royal ballet. Ballet is not boring, it’s beautiful. You get to be in character, dance a story to thousands of people.
As a person who has played Violin for 3 years the music is extremely beautiful and underrated. Yes the ballet is extremely elegant but the music is so very well played!
Idk why but I believe that sounded a little bit arrogant... I played the viola in 2 orquestras during 5 years but this video is to appreciate the ballet, if not, we could just watch a concert
clarisse you should start I do ballet it’s away to express your self in a difrent language only dancers understand Joffrey is a great dance studio in New York I got a schollership and went there it’s fun
Dave Kelly they’ve grown up with it ... swan lake is easy to remember because it is so popular. Modern ballet is more difficult to remember choreography
@@mathildewesendonck7225 Do you think smooth double rond de jambes avec saute in Vaganova legato, entire body coordination or airy arms use is very easy? just remember and exquisitely execute is two different thing.
Bnesque omg, no, you got me totally wrong. I was talking about the choreography, that was the question. And for someone who is trained in classical ballet it’s comparatively easy to remember the moves. Not the execution!!
Mathilde Wesendonck Good to know you think like that. no other company can make the vision of Swan Lake, Bayadere or Le Corsaire or Sleeping Beauty or Serenade or Le Parc to perfection like Kirov/Mariinsky ballet. They are Vatican of ballet.
Bnesque I know and I agree with you 100% . But you still get me wrong, I‘m talking about remembering choreography, which was the initial question 😅😉 (at least what I think it was )
Wazzup boys? Did we all just get into the mood for some Russian ballet out of nowhere? Edit: For those of you that didn't know. This is a joke about geopolitics.
When I was a little kid, maybe 6 or 7, I watched this all of the time. I don't know how I found it but I was mesmerized. I'm almost 14 now and it's still one of my best memories. I just heard Swan Lake again and it brought me to tears. I'm going to watch this again when I have the time and be mesmerized again.
Just remember if Bruce Lee did ballet to help him win all his unarmed steet fights and the Dallas Cowboys did ballet to win their back to back Superbowl games in the early 70s you an master that too. So get to work!
The most beautifull music written. Dancing is superb. I'm 76 and wish I could dance like this. Every dancer is in top physical shape. A dream performance to watch while quarantined.

Not-Funny Comedian I expect you are lucky enough to be a very young person enjoying your youth, and just you keep doing that for as long as possible dear mate. A strange thing will happen to you when you're older if you're lucky, and this cavern of enormous depth will assail you. It deals with emotions so profound and moving that you really don't want them while you're enjoying your youth, but it really helps replace the lost frivolous fun of youth with something very enjoyable. This gives rise to such seemingly unlikely things as enjoying Tchaikovsky and other classics, and I hope when your time comes you get as much pleasure from it as I do.
ಠ_ಠ I would say God help you in your crass ignorance, but then, you probably believe in Tchaikovsky more than you believe in God, which is to say not at all. What ignorant youthful arrogance and folly you display.
657BIueArmy I doubt it - just Tchaikovsky alone conquers our ears & thoughts with his unparalleled music while the ballet performance delight us with boundless beauty & aesthetics.
I live not far from house where Tchaikovsky lived in Klin. He rent it. Now it is a museum. There is a small wooden table near the window where he wrote his music. And all kids in Klin loved him because he gave candies to them when went for a walk.
The first time I read that it as 'he gave the kids candles', and I imagined them arriving after dark and him helping them with lit candles ha ha ha. Seriously though, I would swap your being so close to Klin any day for my being a few doors away from Charles Dickens' house. To see the little table where Tchaikovsky, a sometimes tortured soul, would transfer his powerful and overwhelming emotions to paper in the form of intensely beautiful music is the epitome of joy. Lucky you Natalina!!!
Wow that's incredible Mieu thankyou for sharing that. So a small wooden table where he wrote his music and he was very kind. I adore Tchaikovsky as my dancing life was so intertwined with him. So he lived in Klin. It's been so hard not being able to dance with others during this challenging time but I love that you live near his home. If you visit it sometime close your eyes and tell him that he'd so well loved by me in Australia and he'll always be by my side❤️❤️❤️❤️ hey Mieu I hope your safe and your family during all of this pandemic

There's nothing like ballet to show what agility and beauty the human body, female or male, is capable of. I imagine we'll all be "in that number when the saints come marching in."
Trained in ballet for ten years myself. Still do it for exercise at age 58. Ballet is all about the beautiful lines the human body can make when the thighs are turned out and feet are pointed. I can't do big jumps anymore with any kind of assurance I'm not going to hurt myself, but I can do most of the rest of ballet movement, which is evidence that it's a great life long way to stay fit, and once you've learned it, you can do it in the privacy of your home. Helps to have a hardwood floor with at least a 12x12 space.
vermontcleric58 I would like to know that Heavenly Father would have the perfect ballet dancers and composers up in heaven! Just like he would have the perfect music that we all love to hear! Ballet just simply gives me a wonderful and warm feeling in my heart and all over when I see the pas de deux, and I love the closing of the ballet!
To become a male ballet dancer, I would imagine they start at a very young age..so, can you imagine the teasing and taunts they had to endure by classmates/peers?? I give them high cudos to do what you love in spite of the nasty remarks they got. They're doing what they love not what they have to do in order to make a living..well done MEN...
How do you figure that? I think homeschooling is extremely rare in Russia. even more so than men in ballet. most ppl cant affort for one parent to not work.
Yvonne Williams i know one young (teen) ballet dancer. He is so handsome, so well-built and so mature thanks to his determination that no one teases him, rather admires him.
I quickly went from somewhat bored and disinterested, to in a trancelike state of being hypnotized by the movements and music... and then it was over in a grandiose flash. How delightfully trippy. We're in such a weird state of history where any sweaty poor man such as myself can partake in such beautiful media recordings and find value in it still, not quite out of curiosity but not quite familiarity either. That damned middlebrow.
Can't feel fancy cause I'm trying to figure out what I'm watching 😂. Ballet seems so elegant and a beautiful way into the creative world yet I don't really understand what I'm getting into
I feel sad, very sad. Because I couldn't never do ballet (just a few weeks, but my mom canceled my ballet registration), my parents never allowed me saying "this will never feed you" or "you won't get a future from that" even knowing this was my dream. I never wanted to do ballet as my profession, but a hobby. When I always see a ballet performance, I feel so sad.
@@ilovesushi7311 I feel some similar, I want to be an actress and Singer and dancer, but my father always tell me that I don't have talent or that I don't have any opportunity, but we have to fight for our dreams and passions, don't give up!!!!

Same!! I am from Russia but unfortunately, I’ve never seen ballets in person, its one of my dreams. But if you want to do it, came to Moscow or Sankt-Petersburg, they are such beautiful cities!!
I’ve seen swan lake. I live in the UK it was about 4 or 5 years ago. Amazing. Loved it from start to finish. My favourite opera. I’d love to see it again one day. I’m sure you will see it too. 😊
I saw Swan Lake in St Petersburg Russia, in 1975, performed by the Bolshoi Ballet company. It was the first Ballet that I had even seen. I cried several times during its performance, as it was so magical and romantic, and emotional to me. I have loved Ballet ever since. Allen Cohen
+Allen Cohen It's easy to see why Swan Lake would cause such extremes of emotion: the dancing, the music, the beautiful performers, the story, it's all so wonderful, so overwhelming. The Kirov and the Boshoi both know how to perform this work, the Russians are the best at classical ballet. Yulia Makhalinas are hard to surpass.
+galaxy I, too, went to Kiev, Moscow and Leningrad in 1971...just needed a train ticket and a valid passport, not even much money. Sadly, did not get to see any ballet productions - due to theaters summer recess - but did go to the first surround sound and picture cinema in Moscow....brilliant experience, in those days...can you imagine!!!! As for Tchaikovsky and his music, HE rules!
i have seen nutcracker two or three times, and it was amazing. i was like 10 then tho so it would be nice to see it again with a bit more brain capacity lmao
Truly a blessing to be able to witness! Ballet is something I’ll never stop loving. Beauty is pain, they say; and ballet is the embodiment of that. My gratitude goes out to this talented, and cordial dancers.
I love her interpretation of Odile. It's one of the best I've seen. The dancing/acting combined. It's neither too little nor too much. I believe completely in the character she creates here. It's obviously a difficult role, but she nails it.
Amazing! Every single dancer is the treasure of the world. Look at their perfect fifth position! When I visited st. Petersburg, of course I went to see their performance and it was one of the best time of my life. I will come visit there just to see their performance.
This was my first time seeing that performance, and the 2 hours felt more like 2 minutes. This video made me realize, for the first time (I’m 17), the greatness of ballet. I always thought that if there was a question about storytelling combined with music, then the human voice (opera) was the way to go. But today, for the first time, I was introduced to the magic not of the human voice but of the human body. The way music combines with the body is like the soul itself revealing its substance. The feeling of that combination is almost divine, but at the same time it is very close to human emotion, and ultimately it succeeds in expressing so elegantly the essence of love and tragedy. I don’t think any other dancing form can even attempt to compete with ballet. It has a special purity to it as it dates back to an era when western civilization was, if not at its highest, certainly in a better state than today’s. This type of dance captures the beauty of life and defines what makes the human experience unique!
@ek5371 Thanks :-) That's a challenging question, but I'll do my best to answer it. Personally, I've always been drawn to German and Italian operas, although I do enjoy others as well. Taking that into consideration, here are a few of my personal top picks: 1. Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" 2. Verdi's "Rigoletto" 3. Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" 4. Mozart's "Don Giovanni" 5. Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" 6. Wagner's "Parsifal" 7. Verdi's "La traviata" 8. Bizet's "Carmen" 9. Puccini's "La bohème" 10. Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" 11. Wagner's "Lohengrin" 12. Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde" 13. Jules Massenet's "Thaïs" 14. Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" 15. Puccini's "Tosca" 16. Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" 17. Delibes' "Lakmé" 18. Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore" 19. Mozart's "Così fan tutte" I'm sure I might have missed a few, but those are some of my all-time favorites. However, I'd also love to hear about your favorite operas and any titles you'd like to add to the list.
Western civilization hasn't even reached its peak yet. This is the most beautiful Swan Lake I have ever seen. Yulia Makhalina and Igor Zelensky are both wonderful in this. The dancing and the music are both exquisite.
I have loved this ballet since I was a child. Living near Chicago, my mother used to take me to the Ballet Russe ballets at Christmas time. It just magical ; we even went backstage to meet the then wonderful dancer Frederick Franklin. Lovely memories.
I cried like a baby. This always brings up so much emotion, the dancers and the entire show really do take you along for the ride with them. I wish we could have seen the dancers at the end, the prima ballerina receiving flowers etc.
I know, this was so beautiful Jojo. I could hardly keep my emotions in check watching this. My eyes started to well up from the beauty and my husband just rolled his eyes.
May I interject? Your husband is a fool following what are assumed male conventions. Beauty is as beauty is, there are no limitations on that simple fact. I am male and 100% heterosexual but ballet is something wonderful to watch and the male dancers have to be superbly strong as well as graceful. The females sacrifice so much for their art. All this should be appreciated.

i really should be sleeping instead of watching this.. i’ve always wanted to do ballet, i never will be able to do. i’m overweight, short, and just can’t do because of religion and tradition. but i appreciate all of those who are ballerinas. absolutely talented.
I'm also short and overweight, and my parents wouldn't let me do any kind of dance classes as a kid. I started ballet classes as an adult and loved every minute of it! Obviously I won't get to be in a big gorgeous pro production (really, very few who dance will be. It's INCREDIBLY hard to get into those corps) but I still love dancing. Sometimes I'll put on a ballet film like this at home, move the furniture back to the walls and follow the libretto along as best I can (I sure can't do splits and leaps like that!) in my ballet shoes.
@Estrellakatarinathegreatrussian Dear Great Russian! In the Bible, David danced with so much passion when he brought the Ark of the Lord to Jerusalem, that he uncovered himself! His wife, Michal, King Saul's daughter, was indignant! She upbraided him and he cursed her and she had no child till the day she died. He danced before God and that was that! I "started" ballet at age 65 when I was teaching for the US army at Fort Bragg, NC. My teacher was Sheila Mitchell of the Charlotte Bloom School of dance in Fayetteville, NC. It took me a year, but by the end of it, I did ONE pirouette. But it was worth it. I NEVER felt there was a problem. Like David, I was dancing before my God! And I'm an orthodox Jew! And I told the soldiers I taught: call me any time, but not thursday night-- that's the night I take ballet. And not friday night, that's my sabbath! I taught writing to SOF officers. And I write Egyptian history Daniel Meyerson (Random House). And I love Russians!
I've always wanted to do it but just couldn't bc of financial instability:( Im now too old but discovered i could still carry out my passion for dance through professional ballroom dancing.
+TwistedxNectar dont be mean! Its perfectly natural to be nervous! And besides, these ballerinas have probably trained for years for this, of course they are going to look perfect! She is just being humble about it
@@stephenpowstinger733 There are many variations on the ending. The original had a tragic ending (the death of Odette and the Prince). During Soviet times they were forced to implement a happy ending where both live. In modern Russia and Eastern countries, ballet companies tend to use this happy ending with a slight variation (the Prince killing Rothbart by tearing the wing, such as in this video). In Western countries such as the US and GB, the original tragic ending is most often used, with some slight variations depending on the company (some companies choose to have Odette live and remain as a swan while the Prince is forced to marry Odile, while in others both characters commit suicide to defeat Rothbart).
me too! I don't like tragedy being glorified. I was looking for a version with happy ending and thanks to your comment will be watching this. so, thanks!
I have had the privilege of seeing the Kirov perform live on a couple of occasions, once was Swan Lake. They are consummate professionals and highly talented dancers. This video demonstrates that well, but it cannot compare to a live performance. Wonderful work by dedicated artists.
why is everyone calling ballet "girly"? it cant be masculine or feminine, its an art form! the content can have more masculine or feminine themes but dancing, havelock ellis, said "is life itself." it is the art of composing movement, to make for a perfectly refined representation of life.
Most people who say this are men . To them anything a girl can do better is girly.( I don't mean to say male ballet dancers are not as talented, infact they are. All I'm saying is that a lot of men do not like it when girls do things as well as they can or even better).
Calling something girly or gay is a way for many men to prove their masculinity. They have been taught in a way that being strong and masculine is good and being girly and feminine is bad. They will hate everything that is feminine, if it has nothing to do with reproduction, especially they will hate if someone who should be masculine in their opinion appears to be feminine (gay people). As humans can't be 100% masculine or feminine, they will hate more or less depending on the amount of masculinity they have, trying to compensate the lackness of it. So, again depending on their amount of masculinity and stupidity the hate can range from hating gay men to hating someone who sings good or dances good.
I love watching these but they also make me so sad because I wanted to be a ballet dancer so badly as a kid and begged my parents to sign me up for classes but they just never supported it. Sometimes I wonder the "what could have been" if they had :/
I listen to the complete recording constantly. When this ballet premiered in 1877 one of the main complaints was that Tchaikovsky’s music was “too complex for dancing” and “too symphonic.” Imagine making such bizarre criticisms of the best ballet composer ever 😂
Pure delight. Especially the 4 cygnets - as we all tried to copy in/after/before ballet class. This is a wonderful performance - makes me want to catch a plane to St. Petersburg to see this live. There is nothing like the Kirov ballet anywhere else in the world.
Saw a video on Fb about an elderly ballerina in the throes of Alzheimer’s disease listening to Swan Lake. And she nails it! Brought tears to my eyes and I had to look this up. Outstanding! I hope to catch a live version after quarantine.

Word
That’s beautiful

Anyone who thought you did a spoiler needs to realize "Swan Lake" is a folk tale ballet, not an Agatha Christie whodunnit. Thanks for timing the juciest bits!
Actually in this version, they use the original ending of the ballet, where the evil sorcerer is defeated,(when the Prince tears off his wing) breaking the spell, and as dawn breaks, Odette and her handmaid's are now human again.
(Many productions go for a tragic ending, but I prefer this one. It fits the uplifting music, which was written that way with a happy ending in mind.)
Tchaikovsky was indeed a genius.

Yes. I don't know where ballet would be without Tchaikovsky and Minkus. They account for about seven of the greatest ballets.

The music is great. Although I prefer the Nutcracker score. It is somewhat more memorable and variable.

What are you talking about! It's Tchaikovsky's masterpiece!
Wonderful

The thing I love about Ballet is that it needs no translation, you can understand the story perfectly fine.
WarriorMondenkind I know right! the storyline just presents itself to you!
Bnesque omg, no, you got me totally wrong. I was talking about the choreography, that was the question. And for someone who is trained in classical ballet it’s comparatively easy to remember the moves. Not the execution!!

I would like to go there some day, bc I love all about Tchaikovsky 💙
So cute
The first time I read that it as 'he gave the kids candles', and I imagined them arriving after dark and him helping them with lit candles ha ha ha.
Seriously though, I would swap your being so close to Klin any day for my being a few doors away from Charles Dickens' house.

I’ve seen swan lake. I live in the UK it was about 4 or 5 years ago. Amazing. Loved it from start to finish. My favourite opera. I’d love to see it again one day. I’m sure you will see it too. 😊
We are two dreamers now. I think the ballet is a own world with so much levels until you finish on it. So far away from me, I'm in Canary Islands.
The Kirov is wonderful in live performances. I've seen them twice. I hope you get the chance.
I saw Swan Lake in St Petersburg Russia, in 1975, performed by the Bolshoi Ballet company. It was the first Ballet that I had even seen. I cried several times during its performance, as it was so magical and romantic, and emotional to me. I have loved Ballet ever since. Allen Cohen
Yeah you don't need to sign off as Allen Cohen, think we got that already at the start.
+Peter Byrd It doesn't matter; his emotional response does. Allen Cohen.
+Allen Cohen It's easy to see why Swan Lake would cause such extremes of emotion: the dancing, the music, the
beautiful performers, the story, it's all so wonderful, so overwhelming.
+Allen Cohen I cried reading
I really want to see a live ballet performance at a theatre
Sabina Tsang you should. It is worth every penny
I’ve been to the Russian theatres multiple times and I’ve got to say, it’s absolutely incredible and worth it

I’ve been many times and it’s totally worth it
i have seen nutcracker two or three times, and it was amazing. i was like 10 then tho so it would be nice to see it again with a bit more brain capacity lmao
Truly a blessing to be able to witness! Ballet is something I’ll never stop loving. Beauty is pain, they say; and ballet is the embodiment of that. My gratitude goes out to this talented, and cordial dancers.
Swan lake is the most beautiful ballet of all !!
Always welcome to Russia )
+iguessitwasnicetry What is the fifth position?

+Dok Hycodan yes, i want to know too
that opening dance already... perfection in reality... how is it possible
Fabulous comment
@ek5371 Thanks :-) That's a challenging question, but I'll do my best to answer it. Personally, I've always been drawn to German and Italian operas, although I do enjoy others as well. Taking that into consideration, here are a few of my personal top picks:
1. Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte"
2. Verdi's "Rigoletto"
3. Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro"
4. Mozart's "Don Giovanni"
5. Rossini's "The Barber of Seville"
6. Wagner's "Parsifal"
7. Verdi's "La traviata"
8. Bizet's "Carmen"
9. Puccini's "La bohème"
10. Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen"
11. Wagner's "Lohengrin"
12. Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde"
13. Jules Massenet's "Thaïs"
14. Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor"
15. Puccini's "Tosca"
16. Puccini's "Madama Butterfly"
17. Delibes' "Lakmé"
18. Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore"
19. Mozart's "Così fan tutte"
I'm sure I might have missed a few, but those are some of my all-time favorites. However, I'd also love to hear about your favorite operas and any titles you'd like to add to the list.
@@marymcsherry1965 I really appreciate your kind words! I'm happy that you liked my comment.
@@LeoBloom-kc4ivWow, impressive list! I have to add Turandot as one of my favourites, for atmosphere, grandeur, excitement and beautiful melodies
Western civilization hasn't even reached its peak yet. We are about to have an easily distributable cure for cancer among otner groundbreaking innovations but for some reason you prefer the state of the West when we were only a couple decades removed from serfdom as opposed to the present day? We have a global telecommunications network that allows ANYONE to experience the work of one of our greatest geniuses, not just the nobility and those they patronize. Yet you prefer the past? Hmmm...smells political in here😂

No, I'm not. That does not stick out as anything to obsess over. There are far more amazing and fascinating things, at least to me. Just seconds later, there is a great original part that catches my attention much much more.
The best performance with Yulia Makhalina as ODETTE -
breathtaking artistic dancing in her absolute fantastic personal style with the KIROV BALLET St.Petersburg.
Wow! I absolutely agree. I don't see how Swan Lake could be any better than this performance. Yulia and Igor both do a fantastic job in this.
Yes, great!! But my favorite Odette remains Svetlana Zhakarova.
音楽やバレエ等に国境は無いし素敵な曲や踊りをみて感動する。本当に素晴らしいです。🎉❤❤
The day i watch this live, with an orchestra, I will cry so so much, I really want this!

Everything was new and even the feeling was subtle.
I started to appreciate Russian ballet at a very young age.

Also I think the jester is the unsung talent of this ballet
Rachael Brinegar I thought the crow was pretty cool too
The jester rules, period.
Ive been thinking this the whole time he's so talented
dang that lasted 30 seconds
Right? I'd been watching his leaps, they're so clean and graceful
That jester is incredible, HOW DO THESE PEOPLE JUMP SO HIGH?! It's superhuman.

This was videotaped on a closed set for television (no audience/flowers, etc.).
All this should be appreciated.

i’ve always wanted to do ballet, i never will be able to do. i’m overweight, short, and just can’t do because of religion and tradition.
but i appreciate all of those who are ballerinas. absolutely talented.
Daniel Myerson I don’t think her religion is Christianity though or a religion that believes in the Abrahamic God.
You should really try if you like it that much❤️ the only barrier is you
I've always wanted to do it but just couldn't bc of financial instability:(

+TwistedxNectar Stop getting your tutu in a twist, bitch.
I genuinely love the fact that this version of Swan Lake had a happy ending, as many versions have tragic conclusions. I prefer happy endings :)
Interesting. I didn’t know they had a choice.
I was looking for a version with happy ending and thanks to your comment will be watching this. so, thanks!
I prefer the tragic endings of things because most times in life there isn't going to be a happy ending

2
I guess they are not getting laid, hence they spew vitriol to everyone else
Most people who say this are men . To them anything a girl can do better is girly.( I don't mean to say male ballet dancers are not as talented, infact they are. All I'm saying is that a lot of men do not like it when girls do things as well as they can or even better).
Those guys are like steel springs. Nothing girly about them.

Tchaikovsky's music is so beautiful it stands alone. Ballet itself is an awesome art.
I am totally hooked even at my old age I am totally hooked💕💕💕💕
oh yes
I listen to the complete recording constantly. When this ballet premiered in 1877 one of the main complaints was that Tchaikovsky’s music was “too complex for dancing” and “too symphonic.” Imagine making such bizarre criticisms of the best ballet composer ever 😂
@@thesilvershining blows the mind doesn't it!
Pure delight. Especially the 4 cygnets - as we all tried to copy in/after/before ballet class. This is a wonderful performance - makes me want to catch a plane to St. Petersburg to see this live. There is nothing like the Kirov ballet anywhere else in the world.
