In this video, I am going to share with you some issues that I have had and currently still have with this Elantra. The Elantra is a nice model and vehicle, however every car comes with its pros and its cons and I'm going to let you decide if what I've experienced is a problem for you!

    Thanks for this video. I have a 2011 Elantra with 140k miles. Second owner. It has the same sound yours have on a cold start and I took it to a dealership who then contacted Hyundai USA. They refused to do anything about the engine.

    A news flash for all of you non-mechanics who own a Hyandai Elantra/ Accent. That ticking he speaks of has to do with the valve train, which is in the top on end the engine. The valve train is run by the camshafts, not the crankshaft (crank is in the bottom end and controls the piston movement). A bad crankshaft would result in a servers knocking/ banging sound which would destroy your engine very quickly, look up engine knocks if you don’t believe me. My girlfriend and I own a 2013 Accent 125k miles with the same “issue”. I’ve done multiple oil changes and diagnosed the whole drivetrain a few times with no codes. The ticking (or pecking as he calls it) is most likely a lifter/ valve tick, very common in older Subarus. Every vehicle & driver are different, but for the most part this is not a major issue. Stay up to date on your oil changes and make sure it’s full, a small engine running low on oil is most likely deprived of the lubrication it needs to run smoothly. Valve train ticking is very common, hopefully this helped someone. Good luck to all

      Wrong, these year Hyundai's have a piston slap issue.

    • @eddiemunoz5
      @eddiemunoz5 2 роки тому

      Mine did the same. Cold starts mostly. But occasionally all the time. I keep up on the oil changes and i took that thing on 2 road trips. From WA state to Michigan and back. Also from WA state to SLC, then Vegas, then Reno and back to WA. Never overheated, never had one issue. Traded it in after paying it off for a real nice BMW..... FML. Issues from day One.

    my 2012 elantra has gone 409,000 miles with no engine problems ,it only needed a timing chain tensioner ay 283,000 miles it still has the original water pump! You can make them last this long if you know what your doing . trans. got replaced at 329,000 miles ,a salvage unit with 43,000 miles only cost 250.00 put it in my self ,the paint still looks like new .I think it's the best Asian car on the market .i don't baby it , it gets hammered hard every day yes it is starting to use a little oil about a qt. every 8000 miles nothing wrong with that.

    Hi Kenny, thank you for this video! I also own a Hyundai Elantra, mine is a 2011. It has 143,000 miles on it and I've had it for a little over a year. (I'm the second owner). I also got this letter in the mail, but when I put in my VIN number on the website they told me my car was not qualified. My engine has had the ticking noise since I bought it, and is now getting even worse! It's starting to sound like I'm driving a diesel truck. I brought it into my local mechanic and they told me I would have to get a new engine. I'm wondering what work you got done on your Elantra, and if it solved your problems. I've been looking everywhere for answers. Thank you for your time!

      @@KennyReviews1 did you end up getting rid of yours? Did the new engine last?
      I bought mine used in 2015 and never seemed to have issues until this year.
      Did your knock only happen during cold start? Did you notice any other symptoms prior to going to dealer and getting the letter? So far I don't notice any oil consumption, smoke, or engine lights. I just hear a tapping and I'm noticing possible small loss of mpg.
      I'm taking it in to my local independent mechanic first and see what they say. But I'll probably also call dealer.
