What is that people miss the most about the old games? All very valid things to look into and see if it's something you can use to improve future games. Maybe they should bring back the deeper management of your cities and settlements like Rome 1, the individual soldiers with their own brain should come back perhaps as people liked it instead of the now group animated soldiers. In Rome 1 a soldier would help their comrade, each soldiers had their own animations and attacks, that got lost after Empire and Napoleon total war. Maybe they should go for a WW1 setting or at least return to historical stuff instead of the main focus on Warhammer fantasy. Something many people complain about. To CA that is ban stuff apparently.
The customer is telling them for years now how to fix their games, we are done with constructive critic because we know they dont listen anyway. So only critic its now.

"it's not an entitlement you earn by playing the game"...yes the fuck it is. 100%. If you forked over $60 minimum and bought, spent time on and played the game, you are ABSOLUTELY ENTITLED to voice your opinion on the game. My God is CA so far gone it's incredible.
The saga continues. For my part, CA has burned away what little good will they had left with me after the constant debacles of the past couple years. I knew CA would, when actually pressed, go full mask off - especially in regards to their view on whether people have the right to voice unapproved (read: negative) opinions. This, however, has exceeded all expectations - in particular their phony bologna excuse that "leaks are illegal" as justification for reddit-tier moderator crackdowns.
That "leaks are illegal" line reminds me of a few years ago when the news anchor tried claiming "wikileaks are illegal to look at" and "its their job to tell you what is in them" same types of people running these game corporations that run the media outlets.
@@honeybadger6275 That was the gist of my response to one of the featured threads (you can actually see it in this video), though I likened it to the suppression of the Biden laptop story by social media (and TV media) for more relatability. It's a far newer example, after all.

If they wanted to not respond to the DMCA strike, keep the Rob firing and 40% firing stuff on the down low, going on a mass-purge of their Steam Forums certainly doesn't sell the 'we have everything under control and everything is fine' corpo-speak. All they had to do is dismiss the claims as 'rumors', apologize to you, Volound (public or private), and move on to focus on making quality games. They can't even do the first one right, because at this point they've taken too long to address things. So instead they're causing another 'fire' that may be intended to distract people from the other issues.
What I've seen of CA's community managers for half a decade or so, it makes me think that CA specifically recruits the absolute worst possible candidates for says positions.
They don't want the solutions to those anyway because it involves global effort and they can't actually be bothered. Its likely true of all their problems though.
Holy shit never in my life did I ever think a company would say this with 100% confidence and not see a problem. To be honest at this point its in everyone best interest that CA as a company dies out over time someone will eventually make a game similar to Total War but with the way they speak and undermine us customers i don't see how they could change. Once again very good video thank you for keeping us up to date on their BS.
Regarding CA complaining about boycotts: If I may be so bold to say. I don't think there was in fact a boycott for Pharaoh. Honestly I just think nobody was interested in Pharaoh it's not a boycott when the fans aren't interested in paying a full games price for a SAGA and most importantly their SAGAs never really sold well. Thrones didn't (22K players peak which is still bad for a new title), Troy only made massive "sales" because it was free, hell I've got free games in my account that I would have never purchased if I had to pay for them lol. Shadows of Change was likely a boycott because the price was mental but Pharaoh? I don't think it was going to sell well regardless.
yep you are right there really wasnt. i didnt even say "dont buy pharaoh" for the first time until after the game came out (i am quite sure). and that was the only time it really made sense for me to say it, because i advocate against pre-orders without exception. and thats just me. so yep, i never saw anything even resembling a boycott. it is just as you say, people didnt care. boycotts have some implicit level of caring that is overcome with mass action. no mass action was even needed.
CA's statement "the right to discuss is a privilege" is one of those taglines that end up in gamer history, up there with Blizzard's "don't you have phones" or EAs "sense of pride of accomplishment"
What is happening here is quite insane, but the absolute weirdest thing about this is that it's not limited to CA... you're seeing the same thing throughout Western societal culture... games.. movies.... politics, it's so weird, this exact same mindset, dictating down to the masses what to think, what to do, how to behave or... cancelled! I expected it in politics and its been a trend here in the UK creeping and clawing its way out of the shadows and becoming so damn obvious but to see it in the game industry and movie industry... what is going on in the west..
This whole thing with CA is very similar to the west. As Vol showed in his expose, it is just a bunch of greedy businessmen milking the once great company for every short term gain they can. They have no plan for the future, nor do they care about making great games. It is only natural that they start silencing dissent, cause they can't make great games anymore. Now compare this to western nation and it is almost exactly the same. We are run by politicians who are essentially just actors reading scripts. They only care about making short term gains and could not give a flying F about making great nations again. So when people point this out, they are branded as extreme and silenced on the spot.
This was always the case, the issue now is that the people in these industries are incompetent and as subtle as a brick through a window. It's only been getting worse and we're just reaching a milestone.
The fact that more people weren't jumping onto the whole "its honestly both" response to being either genuinely sorry for their handling or for being too mask off is insane to me. Not me though, that small piece of the sentence really hammered everything home. I sit here and look at the hundreds I've spent on a game that i thought would capitalize on a franchise i held dear when I was younger, and I was the one being capatalized. I look through my most played on Steam and im now almost ashamed that of the top 10, five are TW titles, and three are Warhammer. I've recently gone and started up Shogun 2 again because I missed the time perioed, and it's so night and day. I won't tell you what you already know, but the Warhammer games are literally streamlined, big number generators. It's reallyna shame. Im not a converted CA apologist, or anything like that. I don't, and never have based my happiness off some shitty companies products, but I will say I've been watching yours and Daimyo's work for awhile now and many of your points throughout both of your Fall of TW series' rings very true. Excellent work, and sorry for the ramble.
No way, SFO is the only reason why i still play this unfinished game, because Venris added dozens of missing features without asking for 100$ worth of DLC's. What's the source?

I clicked on a Google generated link to the CA forums that talked about employees being fired that was about 15 minutes old and the thread has been deleted. I can't say if it was official or not but dang their forums are going so nuts even Google doesn't know what to scrape for news.
If CA is preventing people from making informed choices regarding their products due to suppression of criticism, then I think Steam should be asked if they're reconsidering CA's "privilege" of selling their broken titles on Steam.
It’s unfortunate that a studio i once loved and followed closely has died and had its skin used to pantomime existence in the hopes that it fools enough people into thinking its what it used to be so they’ll fork over money. I remember before Rome 2 there was a massive push to get CA to innovate and try something new. A ton of people on their forums, not steam but they’re actual private forums, were brainstorming ideas for WW1: total war and others. They chose the easy route, regurgitate the game that put them on the map without any of the passion or talent and ride off the fact that by the time everyone realizes it’s shit you already have their money. We lost CA that day and like an addict things just compounded and festered until now we simply cannot recognize them anymore.
The thing about Someone dying and having something else takes over their skin reminds me of something that happens in Elden Ring. ELDEN RING SPOILER ALERT After Yura ( The bloody finger hunter) died, Shabiri the Frenzied God of Chaos takes over Yura's body. It feels surreal you are looking at your friend but your friend is not your friend. So in this case, I feel there is a similarity here where we are merely looking at the CA that was once our friend but is actually no longer .
Rome II killed Total War and CA for me. Only thing I got since then is Rome Remastered. Don't give these companies a dime or any of your attention and energy.
"This is a company that pisses on you and telling you its raining" its soo true its sad really, and more sad thing is %99 of the game companies became like this
"Youre not allowed to just criticise. You also have to suggest constructive fixes." Isn't that like, your job, as a multi million dollar company? To come up with solutions to things we think are issues? We AREN'T your fucking employees, CA.
Dont agree with you on everything, but CA lately has been genuinely pathetic. Especially since it locks you out of Steam workshop mods. Criticism should not equal getting banned. No matter what, its a bad look. If its a directive by CA, it makes them look pathetic. If its some community manager getting salty, hes reflecting absolutely abhorrently on the company and should be fired. CA is acting like a spurned lover and its genuinely unhinged.
I think at this point you've won/proven your point, and let me tell you why. I've only commented once before on your channel and I think it was years ago on a Shogun II video, I'm a "hardcore?" 'gamer' in general, I play a lot of things, I'm into strategy and history, whatever. I'm the target audience for these games, and so are people like me. I'm saying you've won now because whereas beforehand, I'd have continued to just keep buying the warhammer-sloppa to watch the funny miniatures fight for real on my TV in huge battles, they've scared me away now. Pharaoh was a disaster and banning everyone who criticizes anything about this company while it goes belly-up from poor decisions has exposed CA as a bloated carcass. It's no longer vigorous, it can't produce another Rome I or Shogun II, the talent left, and what's left is strangled. No more money from types of people like me just means no more money at all. This is death for CA and they hammered the last nail in with the criticism banning with gusto edit: they havent gotten a cent out of me since warhammer II, I was waiting for a sale or some kind of compelling reason to buy the new one but they didn't produce one
Personally I can confirm this, I was willing to eventually pick up Warhammer 3 if it went on a decent sale, but now I really don't want to give them another cent for that or anything else.
I'm fine if CA just stops existing, they basically already aren't even a thought to me at this point. I haven't played a Total War game for any more than an hour in a long time now. Thanks for all your coverage so far, this has been more entertaining to me than playing a Total War game
In my ideal dream scenario, the Total War source code and game engine tools are leaked right before CA closes the doors for good so modders can repair 10 years of gameplay stagnancy in a month or 2.
It's a shame to see how creative assembly has gone the way they have. I had an old friend who once aimed to work for them but that was before empire was made. I hope they got out before it got bad.

10:28 I've noticed this undertone of something like "but some of you are mean to us" in many of CA's posts for the last year or so. Each time I've wondered, "but that wasn't me so why is it in a post aimed at everyone?" This feels like those posts, frustration being vented at the customer but on a massive scale. 20:00 I translated this as "We'd like to apologize, but the bosses said we can't do it totally." Though this part can't ever come across as authentic no matter how they word it when they are actually banning people BEFORE giving examples of what qualifies for a ban.

For my part, CA has burned away what little good will they had left with me after the constant debacles of the past couple years. Regarding CA complaining about boycotts:
If I may be so bold to say.

These people who are coming for you are NPCs like man. being from Newcastle myself, I love how passionate you are about keeping CA on their toes and pushing for a massive change in how CA do everything as a business.
I know that you’re Scottish but I have more in common with the Scottish than the southern England
Well, you have over 100k people that are very grateful for your efforts. Keep it up friend
Corporate talk, and proof that ChatGPT has more soul than spin doctors.
And would do a better job of it...
the 5k peak players of pharao were all the youtubers making videos i bet :D
This is getting funnier everyday
I know both sides are losing from this
But at least everyone can see the true CA now 😂
Having customers is a privilege not a right.
So after using he calculator if pharoah really sold 45000 copies, might be more especially as this comment gets older, it will have made them 2.7 million, so only 97.3 million to go before we can forget about hyenas.
This CA 'Circus Arch' is really fun to update on.
I am tired of getting angry at CA, and how much their features not fun anymore. So I will just enjoy their shitshow.

To adapt what one professor would often ask to this scenario: "what are the units of contructiveness?"
And to think there was a time in which I would await patiently and excitedly for a new TW release.... nowdays Pharaoh came and went and I didn't even realize it was out
10:28 I've noticed this undertone of something like "but some of you are mean to us" in many of CA's posts for the last year or so.
