- Tom Welling and I discuss the dilemma a lot of fellow actors and artists have of never being able to enjoy being in the moment and enjoying their own work.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The one and only Tom Welling (Smallville, Professionals) joins us again this year as we reminisce on the recent 20th anniversary of Smallville and discuss the differences in our time shooting the show and interacting with castmates. As we return to cons, Tom talks about his experience as a father being away from his family and the surprise realization he now has away from home. We also talk about fatherhood, upcoming Smallville projects, and his experience working with Brendan Fraser.

How TOM WELLING Actually Feels About His Role on SMALLVILLE Looking Back #insideofyou #smallville
Michael and Tom have an amazing chemistry on and off screen. That’s why they will always be the very best Lex and Clark ever put on film or television.
lol.
I just wanted you guys to know that the two of you were awesome and amazing in Smallville as a DieHard Superman fan I couldn't ask for a better combination than the two of you
I loved Smallville. I have the whole series on DVD.
So do I
Michael Rosenbaum without a doubt is my favourite Lex. His portrayal seemed to be that of somebody wanting to be good, but his upbringing and lessons Lionel lack of empathy had installed made him mistrustful everything. Kind felt sorry for him as a character. Would LOVE to see John Shea appear on the podcast to compare Luthor stories.
Lex and flash.
100% agree. He seemed to have understood the role and who lex is. I'm open to a better lex luthor but the bar is set high.
The mistrust of everyone Lionel instilled in him was his downfall for sure. That’s great writing because you have this relationship between two people, one who’s taught to not trust anybody but wants to believe in his friend, and the other who has to be distrustful to keep his secret. A relationship that’s doomed to fall, that you know is going to fail, but you just want so badly for it to work out.
He was definitely the best Lex hands down
What did you think of Jon Cryer's portrayal of lex luthor?
Tom Welling looks like a cool dad that helps coach softball these days
Always enjoyed the chemistry between you 2 on screen. By far my favorite portrayals of the characters on screen.
I thought the dynamic between you two was pure magic, so amazing. Tom made the best Clark Kent- Christopher Reeve was the best Superman, but Tom was the best Clark. And Michael was by far the best Lex.
I think the getting hit by a car is a great example. Last year I got hit by a car and was initially mad. I got out and saw the look of terror in the girls eyes that hit me and I immediately asked her if she’s ok. Switching from anger to compassion that fast was a lesson for me to not react blindly.
Respect
I love what Tom just said
Never thought I’d be a fan. Then Netflix sent me a Smallville Season 1 DVD by mistake (back when we got movies in the mail 😂😂😂). I was hooked right away!
Perhaps a divine appointment.
@@phillconklin382 They were supposed to send I, Robot (2004) which has similar themes, so it kinda felt that way
Do they not send dvds anymore?
Excellent point being made. Its basically seeing the bright side of every situation
I remember being a teen and stumbling upon smallville in its 9th season. I was so dedicated watching season 10 as it aired and that’s the only time I remember actually following a tv show like that. I now have all seasons on dvd and I still throw it on now and then
I JUST DOWNLOADED IT FROM THE INTERNET THANK GOD IT WAS AVAILABLE
I genuinely hope these guys never drift apart
My two teenage crushes back together. Smallville was my favorite show growing up. I met John Schneider back around 2010 when he was in my hometown and that was great but Tom's Superman was always, and still to this day, my favorite. I also found Michael as Lex was just...well, you won me over, you were never the villain.
You both were role models for me as a teen. I loved Smallville and watched every episode when it came out. Thank you so much for all your hard work, love and character-chemistry. I looked up to you both. You were like my secret friends. Smallville and all its characters will forever have a place in my heart.
Oh my faves. You guys are awesome!!!
Enjoy the Moment guys
I agree with the others; Tom and Mike were perfect as young Clark and Lex. I thought some of plot lines, like Clark wanting to play football, were ridiculous, and the kryptonite freak of the week got tiresome, but you can only work with what the writers give you. Some of my favorite moments were when Lex actually behaved as a true friend to Clark and the Kents, something you never saw anywhere else.
You guys were so fantastic and rival anything the C.W ever did . And Tom you never wore the suit. I hope you feel better and merry xmas
You two are goated for Smallville
Smallville!!
So true ❤❤❤ love Tom
Gotta admit, Rosenbaum is one smart dude.
I really want to see these actors in a movie!!!
"It's none of our business what other people think about us" - I have been saying this for years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Appreciate the Good and the Bad.
Wise words.
You guys are so funny and so true
This is GOLD!!!
You played the best Lex Luthor on tv or in movie, you should be able to enjoy your work on Smallville MR.
Holy crap I couldn’t recognize lex with a full head of hair 😂😂
i really wish we would have finally gotten the money shot of tom in the suit in the crisis crossover. it would have been amazing to see the 3 superman fighting side by side.
Fk.he got at old. Fk I'm also old. Jeez I grew up watching this show. Dang. It's bitter sweet.
He has aged darn well though
I discovered your channel today and subscribed :)
We desperately need a spin off of Smallville, the one saving grace from Season 10 was the finale with Lex's long awaited return. Imagine what it would be like having Clark & Lex meet up again (Not in Infinite Earth crossover) That wasn't our Lex. There is only 1 live action Lex Luther & that's Rosenbaum. It would be like watching Smallville in a whole new way, seeing as Lex now has no memory of Clark/Superman thanks to Tess. Would be interesting to see how they interact considering the history between them only known to Clark.
I miss Smallville!
fucking aces realness everything needs appreciation
Seems to me there are three types of actors: Those who are great because they freak out on a scene, they are perfectionists, everything must be done correctly - they look at the roles of the past actors and feel tense. Then there are those who excell because they are completely relaxed and confident, in connection with their own mind and body while shooting the scene and these types of actors can achieve much success without ever studying much of acting or ever doing much of acting at all. Then there is the master actor, who can be relaxed while still aiming at perfection.
*random* They should've just let Clark and Lex be friends... It could've been an alternate universe where Clark positively affected Lex's life.
That was a good friendship they had going initially.
You guys rock!
On another note - Will we ever get a better Wally West than Michael Rosenbaum's? I don't think so!
Anyone know who the guy from the flash is

Lex Luthor interviewing Superman
😄
Easy to say when you win the genetic & career lottery. Your whole thought process is different when people look @ U & usually like you. Acting is the only field where someone can win the greatest award (oscar) & a novice. It is more proof that life is easier when you are attractive or have an athletic ability. ITS EASY TO LOVE A WINNER.
Kids teach you alot but I cannot stand people who hide behind their kids.

I enjoy Michaels pod casts, and think he is a good interviewer, but changes his personality when he interviews Tom. I watched n interview with To & Michael, maybe 20 years ago, where Tom gave Michel credit for him having to memorize and deliver a paragraph’s of dialogue about a sword and all Tom Sid was “Hey Lex, where did you get this sword?” Unfortunately it seems Michael has alot of unresolved issues with Tom since Michael mentions in his interviews with Tom that Michael was cast as Lex having been a working actor who appeared on stage and movies, where as Tom was an Underwear model who was cast on Smallville because he looked the part, and Michael struggled having to learn his lines every night, whereas Tom had hardly any long lines to memorize. My feeling was that Michael left the show because he want being recognized for his contribution to the show, where as Tom was given an opportunity to direct and produce and kept making more and more money where Michael was overlooked. Unfortunately leaving Smallville was a huge mistake for Michael, and you kind of hear Michale blame Tom for his decision. I think Tom is being an extraordinarily good sport about this , but is hoping MIchael moves past this
All these Hollywood remakes and reboots of Superman suck, they should do a Superman movie where Welling is Superman and Rosenbaum is Lex Luthor. As much as I loved Gene Hackman as Lex, I think Rosenbaum is the best Luthor because he added layers of depth.
They should have done that instead of the other silly superman movies. That zack snyder one was terrible. Wish I could go back in time and unsee that. Basically just trashed everything that was superman before it and the way they changed him sucked. So glad he hasn't done anymore dc movies yet. Hopefully he won't
Definitely not looking forward to the one by JJ Abrams
@@jasonburnett4353 yeah I hope he doesn’t do anymore either justice league 2017 was the superior movie by a lot. Everything zack does is trash as hell…. Can’t wait for Warner bros future movies with there trash ass universe that they keep on destroying because they have no damn vision
You’d think filmmakers would look at the old Christopher Reeve Superman movies and try to stay close to that. Instead, they take what was good about Superman in those films and go in the opposite direction. The only film I’ve watched of the newer Superman movies is “Man Of Steel” and I absolutely hated it. I cringed at most of the movie and especially when Superman outright killed Zod because one of Superman’s core beliefs was avoiding the loss of life. People hated on Superman Returns with Brandon Routh but I actually enjoyed it and thought it came much closer to the Reeve portrayal. If it isn’t broken, Hollywood should stop trying to fix it.
@@jasonburnett4353 HENRY CAVIL ACTUALLY IS A GOOD SUPERMAN IN MY OPINION
When you have a producer and director working with you, I can see how you might not being able to fully enjoy as your taking a lot of instruction and reshoot. We see the final product not the 2 or 3 takes
Feels bad for not actually putting on the suit? :)

Wow he did not age well 😢
The awkward moment when you realize that Lex Luthor has become hotter than Superman! lol
How many times is he going to ask his friend the same tired old questions - as if he did nothing else of note in his life. It went down the same way with Routh. Do better!
Nothing bug me more then not to see superman fly towards the last few years everyone could fly but him and it bugged the crap out of me
