  • Warming up is as much about reacquainting yourself on the kit as it is about warming up your body and your mind. These are the 3 drum set warm ups that I have been using the most this year for my own personal practice and during my travels. I hope they help you as much as they help me :)

Always good to learn some new exercises. For the first time in my adult life (I'm 44), I have FINALLY been able to set up my drums in my own house. After years of apartment living where drums are never welcomed and having to drive to church to practice, I've finally been able to get in to a regular practice routine again. I've only played at church for the last decade and felt I hit a plateau. Feels great to get to the woodshed again. The woodshed that i OWN!

      Hey, I’m 44 too!
And yeah, having a set at home to practice on is key..
I have one at home and one at the band space…
No way I can get better as needed with only on set…
I saved for almost a year for my set at home…

@@mikeslessons I have 2 electronic drumkits that are brand new and the reason for that it is because I don't have space to set up my acoustic drumkits in my apartment where I live. I understand that electronic drums are not the same as acoustic drums but it can still help with skills and techniques.

I remember discovering Mike's "Intermediate drum fills" video back in like 2007. The sheer consistency and quality of this man's content over the past decade and a half is extremely precious and rare. One of the UA-cam drum gods right here.

Great lesson as usual! Thank you very much Mike!! I usually set up my floor tom lower than my snare because I tend to hit the rim of the FT instead of the head if I set them up for exact same height. But I think your concept of "same height same distance" makes sense. Do you have any tips to do it successfully?
