- I flew from London to Mumbai with Air India to try out their NEW First Class seat. Now that Air India is privately owned, the airline is trying to become more premium. Especially, Air India is adding a total of six former Etihad Airways Boeing 777s to its fleet recently. So it means Air India has doors on its first class suites. I think this is a massive improvement over Air India’s previous First Class product. Check out the vlog.

I think Air India has improved a lot under the new management. However, there're still rooms for improvement. For example, as you've rightfully pointed out - plastic ziploc bag for cutleries is really a no-no. Also, the inconsistency in the use of its livery. By the way, I am impressed by your decision to choose the Indian main course! Service by the cabin crew seemed good. Hope they can continue to strive to up their service level. 😉

Unfortunately, the options for main dish were not very attractive, so the Indian main course was only option for me. The airline is investing hugely in modernizing its fleet and improving the passenger experience, so I think it will be interesting to see how Air India will improve its first class services in a few years.
They must have loaded the food from London. AI's New Delhi kitchen rarely gets bad food reviews. Good food (Great Indian Food) and the friendly, attentive & warm Cabin Crew are the biggest positives of AI's premium product across the airline. AI should focus on the catering company and standards. With the hard and soft products improving significantly, AI must not lose its grip on service and food. The airline is taking strides in the right direction.
i mean tbh u only load food from the departure airport unless its a really short flight both ways

ㅋㅋ아닠ㅋ장수님 ㅋㅋ 어메니티 구성품을 이렇게나 고퀄로 찍기 있나욬 갬동먹음 ㅋㅋ 그나저나 이런저런 비행리뷰 중에서도 에어인디아 리뷰는 처음보네요! 투미 어메니티 키트는 전혀 예상하지 못한 브랜드라 저는 신선하기도 하고, 천장에 조명은 뭔가 아랍에미리트가 생각나기도 하고 ㅎㅎㅎ 하지만 기내식은 장수님 표정만 봐도 진짜 별로인 듯... 다음 리뷰도 기대할게여!!!

I think the terrible catering could also be because it's Heathrow. Idk but could be a factor.

With the presentation Air India/Express Cancellations, I don't think I'll ever fly Air India/Express in my life time.
I booked my Mangalore - Bangalore - Mangalore flight on 17th May/7th June
3 days they messaged that the flight is Cancelled for the 17th Flight & 5 days before for 7th June.
I had to buy an Indigo ticket at a much higher price for 3 people.
Read about Mumbai San Francisco flight on 29th May.
Air India Group could take a veryong time to get Customer Confidence back .

AI should do away with First Class. This is an archaic concept these days, and since it is only on a small sub-fleet there will always be destinations where it isn't available. Instead, they should expand and update business class to the standards of the world's best airlines (and build a premium economy brand).
They are doing all of it on their existing fleet as well as the new order of 470 planes that they have made to airbus and boeing.
Why pilot is serving food
You found food disappointing... but for me, it looked yummy. Similarly, we Indians fine food on other asian flights disappointing, as it does not cater to our demands. I have flown on ANA, singapore, thai, cathay, and others but had to leave half full..
And yes Air India is known for their best food....

Make sure to spray perfumes and tell your Cabin Crew to Take shower and use deodorants
The food flying out of any Indian airport is better as the airline has more control over it.The caterers from London are probably one of the worst as I have flew in other first class also the food from heathrow is always mid like as I flew in emirates and ANA first class from heathrow

Meals from London kitchen aren’t tasty at all for many airlines. They lack of taste and bland in my opinion.
Many thanks for sharing. Interesting to see how Air India are progressing. The hard product already looks a lot better and the service, as nearly always, appears attentive but there are still a number of areas where further improvements are possible/required if it wishes to rival the market leaders. The F&B is obviously still well behind competitors' offerings and even the smaller touches like priority/separate boarding and escorting passengers to their seats should be easy, quick wins.
Out of interest, which lounges were able to be accessed at LHR with a First ticket?

Air India First Class passengers can access the Singapore Airlines First Class lounge at Heathrow. However, the lounge is currently undergoing renovation. So the passengers can choose Lufthansa Senator Lounge or United Lounge.
I wouldn’t call this a first class product and the food looks awful

The enclosed cabin is like First Class. Rest of the service is like Business class. What about the lounge in LHR? Anything special there? For me, the lounge and the boarding is a big part of the experience

Thank you very much, John. Yes, exactly, this aircraft was the former Etihad 777-300ER, so the seats are exactly same things as Etihad. However, I think while first class on this plane isn’t cutting edge, but this is a massive improvement over Air India’s previous First Class product.

I am flying x-eitihad aircraft with AI as well in June from BOM to JFK in first class and looking forward to it! Also, I am going to be flying on their A350 from Del to Bom in business class. Make sure you try it as that is where you will see cutlery upgrades etc.

흐음... 인도항공사 그전에도 비즈니스석을 봤지만 나름대로 최선을 다해서 서비스를 한것 같은데 비즈니스석이랑 비교해봐도 시트나 구조만 빼면 1등석이 그렇게 좋다고 느껴지지는 않네요 특히나 9시간이라는 비행이라면 음식이 중요한데 진짜 제가 먹지 않았어도 신선함은 거리가 먼거 같아요 😅 갑자기 이영상을 보니 유나이티드 항공 1등석은 어떨지 궁금하네요

As a huge fan of Indian foods due to their flavours, colours and spice i found the foods for this flight not so great… if I were in yr position I would cry for the bucks I paid…never tried Air India bfr but definitely will give a try in future…

Might make some money if they can keep the government ministers demanding free upgrades out of it unlike the old Air India. i think they could do with a local 5* chef to advise on food as other first class airlines have done. Good report.

Air India has started to work on its looks, but then not every ounce is appreciable..... Lounges are not great. Inflight performance is slowly becoming better, but I live it upto passengers.

AI hub is DEL airport. Generally catering from home hub airport is better. But looks like AI is not upto the mark.
AI got 6 ex-delta, 6 -ex-Etihad, and 3-ex-Singapore flights on lease as a stop gap measure.
This is a Ex-Etihad flight. around 10 years old aircraft.
Service in 1st class will be fine as its the pinnacle of luxury.
But cutlery in plastic bag, pale and dry entrees, lack of tasty food make it really unappealing.
AI has a long way to go. But their ground staff handling of baggage, Pilots rostering, their Merger with Vistara - are all a big mess.
AI cannot be atleast 25% of what ME3, SIA are as of today by 2030.
Right now their product is a lot uneven. So cabin crew, booking,service, amenities also have hard time to keep up with this.
The true measure of their turnaround will be visible after 1 year from today, where in by mid2025, AI wholly owned 777-200 LR and 300ER undergo cabin refurbishing. so once the cabin starts getting standardized, may be then it might be a better way to judge.
But in my opinion, don't keep any high hopes. I think AI's vihaan.ai - 5 year turnaround plan is just to get things running, but the baggage from the mismanagement of the GoI is too big and its deeply rooted in its work culture.
Seat looked wonderful, crew seemed nice, but the food looked very average (awful) and it's an awful Boeing triple. When will airlines wise up and order A330s or A350s?

First Class 30% (mainly cabin and crew) Business Class (Amenities, bedding) 30% Economy Premium 40% (Food). Air India still has long way to match world class airlines.

When Air India was better then Singapore Airlines.... Goverment totally screwed up a good airline... Infact it should had never left from hands of Tata.
While the cabin looked spectacular,the food looked awful.so expensive ticket and this kind of low quality food is certainly a bummer.

Here's the problem... This an ex etihad plane so all the hard services are theirs.. The soft services are air India and still say below a proper first class product
Hard product is good, but soft product resembles business class

Yes, everything super, except food. No caviar, no cheese platter. Caviar is standard in First, and AI did serve it always in the past with chilled vodka 😊

Honestly, it looks decent as I have travelled a lot of business class and first as well on multiple airlines like Etihad, American, British, Finair etc. I am sure few things could be improved but good to see Air India trying to finally fix their issues after the takeover by Tata Group. It is time.
just did a return economy flight Sydney to Delhi with Air India last week (12.04.24-21.04.24). My seat for Both flights was exit row 11j. sydney to delhi no headphones for whole flight , food was below average if you comapre the price they charge and with almost same price what Singapore Airline offers.
On my way back to sydney there were headphones but my IFE screen was broken had no power and had surgical tapes to hold it toghether.
I felt cheated and regreted why I booked with this airline . Food portion were small ,presntation was worse and the taste was very bad.
Don't fall in trap that it is run by a big private comapny now and has improved. All rubbish only good for elderly and people flying first time to Sydney.
The food did look miserable!
WiFi are not available because government has prohibited operating WiFi inflight as they perceive the same as security risk.
That's power of privatisation workers knows if they mis behaves or didn't work they will be fired make them more productive compare to public sector
Still along way to go. May be the executives should have taken first class flights on Emirates to get an idea.
