I started 4 years ago with training by a Zazen teacher. Sadly, it was the bare bones type of teaching Forrest speaks of. I was to sit and follow the breath. I sat for six months in the traditional style. My torso was so tight, and I got my intuitive message to go to Breathwork to get into contact with myself. I did that and left meditation alone. As Forrest said, it seems we are to power through. Not a pleasant experience at all. I found Forrest 14 months ago, and now I look forward to meditation, and my practice has been fascinating to me ever since. Forrest is the Rockstar of teaching Meditation. If I find a chance to share this, I share Forrest Knutson on UA-cam. One of the few stellar teachers in my sixty six years on this planet. ❤️🌻❤️

It's tough when you're just starting out, you feel like you're wasting your time and you don't see the point in meditation but if you stick with it you cross a line where it becomes incredibly satisfying and you see great results in your life and you end up with the opposite problem of not having enough time in the day to meditate as much as you would like to.

The gold star method reminds me of a similar method, where an X is crossed out on a date of the calendar for every day an important task is completed. The more Xs are made, the more you feel that the streak of Xs must not be broken. It becomes a strong compulsion to not break the streak of Xs. This worked for me when it came to physical exercise, to the point where I no longer needed the calendar, and exercising became a daily habit that I just have to do.

What a great reminder to make meditation a habit. Thank you for your devotion to helping others and for your gentle and relatable encouragement. May I ask for tips for coming out of meditation? Sometimes I come out of meditation abruptly if for instance I’m interrupted by a person or some other external cause. But what I’m talking about are the times, I feel myself wanting to end my meditation naturally. Currently, I go through some small steps such as a couple deep breaths, small movements in my hands and feet, neck rolls, maybe a shoulder massage and then some light stretching to ease my stiff body then, at some point, I open my eyes and take in the space around me. This routine takes about a minute or two. This is after about 20-30 minutes of seated meditation.
However, now that I’ve learned to go deeper (thank you, Forrest) and can really feel my parasympathetic nervous system coming online, I think I am beginning to have a greater need to come up with a way to honor my mind, body and soul as I come out of the meditative state. I thought you might have helpful and meaningful steps to do this, much like your steps to enter meditation. I’m happy to kind of keep making it up as I go along but I would also appreciate any tips you have learned along the way. Maybe you already have a video of this that I have not found yet. Much respect and many thanks to you!

Gamefy your life hehehe Thanks Forrest this is super important info. I’ve also been through years and years of being extreme and the best results really just came when I chilled out and had some fun, enjoyed the process and appreciated what I was doing. Getting frustrated with oneself for “not doing enough” becomes a giant complex of “not enough”
Appreciate your fun ways of getting around our own crazy 😄😄😄

Wise words, Forrest. It is a matter of love and love cannot be forced. I am not really into the "Whiplash" approach. Actually, it is counter productive. Quick question: Would it be correct to consider the Cute Baby Meditation (CBM) a form of Jhana 1? I've been combining CBM along with Om Japa and I have been experiencing better and more enjoyable results. Thanks for sharing. Blessings and blissings! P.S. Here's a gold star for you 🌟!
