Never trust someone when they say they rebuilt an engine. I built my own engine and I don't even trust it 🤣
LOL 😂 😂😂
Hahaha, damn. I do feel ya though, I'm always wary of any motor I've rebuilt even if it is perfect.
I known damn sure my 350 wasn't "rebuild" also. I'm about to install the Holley EFI kit that's the whole reason why I clicked on this video. Hahaha
The GM spec for hot oil pressure at idle can be as low as 7 psi.
10 psi for every 1000 rpm is what I hear all the time, but in my experience I've never had a healthy engine with oil pressure that low. I'm glad to see that he's going with the LS though, he will be much happier with the new swap.
Finally back to S10 Series. I like watch a videos of Fixing Trucks Kyle!
Great to see the s10 back. Love the project cars you are doing
Can't wait for when it's finished!
Cool, love the monte, had a 78 a few years back. Your builds are on another level
Success is usually the culmination of controlling failure. Keep pushing, Kyle! Awesome content, as always!
Kyle, fyi, before you throw it away, most manufacturers specs for hot oil pressure is 10 psi per 1000rpm, so 10-12 psi at hot idle is normal
Yep, the GM spec is 7psi hot idle
Knew somebody was going to say it, will it cause major damage? no, is it right? Also no on a "rebuilt" motor
This has been an ongoing conversation for months. I've talked with countless people and a few engine builders and all of them agree that the pressure fluctuations are not normal for how this engine was supposed to built. It's not worth the gamble at this point, just cut my losses and move on.
Exactly
Unless it's a beater, I wouldn't trust 10 psi even though the "specs" say it's okay. From my experience with *several* SBC engines and two LS swaps I've never seen a *healthy* engine with oil pressure that low.
Lookin' forward to the G-Body build!
A restoration business is very cool! Good luck with the endeavor!
Love your videos and you finally working on the s10 now
I'm glad you're back with the S10 project which is doing the LS Swap in order for this truck to go faster that would be awesome
Have watched your complete series on the S10...I have a 1991 S10 extended cab that'll I'll be taking a lot of your content and duplicating. Thanks for the videos! Also have had 3 Monte Carlo's. Looking forward to your content on the MC.
Excited for the monte!!
Finally!!! The S10! Sorry to hear about the “rebuilt” engine SNAFU, but it’s nice to see your back on it. Thanks for sharing this!
You bet! Thanks for watching!
A 5.3 gen III+ is a very good place to start. Sadly, you’re having to restart at the 15 yard line.
Awesome video Kyle!
Sweet! Been watchin you fer years brother! Keep the beard bro! Good things to ya brother!
Alright the s10 project is back after a long time and you are starting a restoration business that’s what my dad always wanted to do
The s10 looking good 👍
Can't wait to see the LS Swap
so happy to see the Regal and Monte Carlo
I can’t wait for you to finish the S-10
Lesson learned.. but look at the long run..its gonna be better and wellllll.. those tires are gonna be smoked for sure next time. Thanks for sharing..stay safe and be well.
I rebuilt the engine for my car a couple days ago, I’m surprised it hasn’t BLOWN UP YET LOL
What's up with your YT account tho
Kyle, a really nice thing to have in a shop is a white or grey table on wheels (that has brakes of course) to lay out parts and tools.
Agree!
When things don't go as you plan.
Luckily, you did say you might disassemble the engine. Since the bearing material is softer than the cam, the cam itself shouldn't have deep grooves. Checking the all around conditions of the internal parts to see if there's any scuffing on the metal surfaces should reveal a solid rebuildable core. Cam bearing change, at the least, and you could sell the long block, be it to a machine shop or a third party. One must try to recoup some money that has been invested in an engine build.
Good luck on your business and all your other projects. Hope to see more of the 240SX.
That's definitely the plan, I appreciate the insight bud! Thanks!!
Pressure doesn't equal volume. Put a high pressure, high volume pump in it and plug the oil bypass in the adapter. You'll have all the oil You'll need! 2psi/cylinder/1,000 rpm is a good rule
I don't want to even fool with it anymore at this point, I don't trust it. The engine has an issue that'll continue to get worse no matter what oil pump is in it. It needs to be gone through again. I appreciate the tip for the future, thanks!
Excited for the Monte Carlo. The LS model is also a bucket list car of mine. I’m from Australia so unfortunately we never got them over here. Hoping to import one at the end of the year.
I didn't know you all never got those cars! Although you all have some stuff I wish we got too LOL. Did any of the G-bodies make it to Australia?
@@saabkyle04 none at all 🙁 what’s the price range for a rust free 4th Gen Monte Carlo LS if you don’t mind?
Too bad about the engine. Like the idea of doing the LS swap. It will be nice for you to get some projects completed. I imagine it’s frustrating juggling them and not being able to complete them. I know I can’t wait to see how the S10 and Chevelle come out.
Yes sir, it's been stressful to say the least. I can't stand seeing so many things in limbo, but the S10 will thankfully be done soon and the Chevelle metal work should kick off within the month. I knew from the get-go that the Chevelle would be a long term project, but I'm happy with the progress so far! Plus, the new business is taking precedent at the moment so we can get up and running ASAP. Thanks pal!
your low oil pressure comes from your main bearings ...cant wait to see the new build put a procharger on the 5.3 ...
Smashed the like and subscribe buttons! Amazing content!!
Oh my goodness my grandma had a blue 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo. But that white one is the same buddy style.
you should restore a classic ford and classic dodge at some point, I think you should film an indept tour on that 86 chevy c10 even though you're not going to restore it, if you still have it.
After all that work … jeez It’s all good thou you live and you learn … I’ll be watching ! Fa sho ! What’s the deal with the Bel Air ???
awsome video kyle havent seen the s10 in such a long time glad its back too bad the engine had to be taken out did so much work to that engine but owe well at lease you can reuse it lol but now you can put something faster in thier cant wait to see it and i cant wait to see some videos on the monte caro one of my most favorite cars of all time 85 to about 89 are my favorite models and the buick one i also really like my friend has one just like it thumbs up and shared
Thank you buddy!!
Nice
FINALLY
nice g-bodies, i have a friend in MA that has a bunch of those turbo 3.8 v6s I'm sure he'd sell if you wanna go back that route, either way, would love to see a v6 build. not enough on YT... Sadly. Nice to see you upload again.
Thanks pal! That is good to know! Unfortunately that Regal is trashed. The restoration portion alone would be gnarly since there's not a lot of REPOP stuff for them.
Sorry about what happened with the 350 in the S10, that really sucks... But oh man, an '85 Monte Carlo??? Dude, we're officially G Body brothers now! I've got an '82 El Camino and love it to pieces. Welcome to the G Body club man, looking forward to seeing what you'll do with that Monty! =D
What's up with your pfp tho ?
Hello from Greece 🇬🇷🇬🇷👋
Hey saabkyle04 you should make the video about the 2021 ford bronco
Awesome sound from that V8. A truck must have a V8.
You should install a winch in your garage so you can move cars that aren't running in your shop
sucks but the upgrade will be worth it. This is gonna be one of the sickest trucks on youtube
Just curious how could the cam bearings affect oil pressure?
Oil pumps are generally driven off a crankshaft via a chain or direct driven gear. Everything is connected on an engine. Bad cam bearings are probably an indirect contributor to the issue.
Like what? Hed to read that reply a few time. Everything in that statement is false when it come to a sbc, oil pump is driven off distributor, that is driven by cam shaft. Now to answer the original question, the cam bearings were not replaced during "rebuild" they have to much clearance, specially when warm, they are not holding oil in oiling system, which directly causes low oil pressure
@@josephbulkley2767 Thanks
just when i thought i was out they pulled me back in
10 psi per 1000 rpm is the standard go-by, so as long as it’s not dropping below 10 at idle, sounds like it’s fine.
Just be sure to deactivate the MDS on the 5.3 or you’ll have another oil issue later with worn cam phasers.
That significant drop in pressure does not sit right with me, especially being that it's a "rebuilt" engine. It's basically running at minimum "acceptable" oil pressure. I don't trust the work that was done to the engine because I have no record of it. I forgot to mention that I've noticed metal in the oil pan before 😔 The 5.3 is an early truck motor so no MDS, but great tip nonetheless. Thanks bud 👍
Where are you pulling that reading from? Down by the filter or at the top of the block by the distributor? If they pushed the cam plug too deep it can cause oiling issues to the cam and mains especially if you're running a cam button and didn't check cam thrust.
I talked about it in the video. I have no clue what has or hasn't been done aside from the basics I mentioned.
Saab- his first car
Kyle- first name
04- 2004 when he got his first car
Will it be a daily driver when it’s done or do you still have the 2010 Hyundai Genesis grand touring?
Dude that car was sold nearly 10 years ago. I'll probably sell the S10 after it's finished.
you should of finish the rest of the series and sell it as with the bad stuff that are in the engine, and let someone else do the work, maybe you should another channel for the new restoreation project shop bussieness. install a LED cargo bed light and install bed liner paint on this truck
👀👀👀👀👀 (I C U)
Cant wait to see the s10 painted . What color did you decide on?
Two tone white and metallic grey. The white will have a pearl effect to it.
Bro you look older I remember watching your car reviews when I was in high school back In 2012
I'd confirm the Guage you have no noise
I am ls swapping an s10 just like yours as we speak.
Do you have a hood for the truck?
I have a 1991 Ex Cab also. My driver side seatbelt doesn't work. I can't figure how to get it out.
Hey Kyle! Is the used car dealership still open?
Its always something
Yes sir it is!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How many miles are on your GMC sierra
What’s up with the C10 in the garage?
It’s one of our clients for the new business, same with the bel air. The business is called K & J Design and Autoworx. I have Facebook and Instagram pages for it!
Wow bro, you’ve come a long way! I remember just like it was yesterday you only had about 1k subscribers, now you’re well over a million subscribers! Good job Kyle, keep up the great vids. I’m a long time subscriber since day 1💯🤜🏾🤛🏾
I appreciate it very much!
Is that a genuine SY/TY steering wheel?
Whatever happened to the crewcab?
So wish this was the crew cab s10 getting the LS motor. Any updates on the progress of the crew cab please.
They crew cab is long gone, I gave up on it quite a while ago. Just too big of a fabrication project for me. My buddy Joe is building it.
Are you definitely gonna leave the color of that exterior red, gray and white? Or are you gonna work exterior colors?
Two tone white/metallic grey. The white will have a pearl effect.
Would you be willing to fix the problem with the oil pressure and sell the motor and transmission?
Not anytime soon, I'm loaded up with projects at the moment. I'd sell the motor as-is, but I need the transmission for the Monte.
Will you be filming more episodes about your new home?
No sir, but thanks for asking.
Can u review a 2022 Nissan pathfinder?
Ngl, this truck looks like it was built by StreetConcepts1
wait a minute? what about the hyundai genesis? do you stil have that???
Eh, it happens. A used motor is always a roll of the dice but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
LS should be fun though.
Good decisions.
@saabkyle04
Why rev on an engine you are saying has low oil pressure?
Have you checked with an engine builder to see if the pressure should be the same from front to back.
Yes, I've consulted several people, including my machine shop. They all agree. Trust me, this has been an ongoing conversation for months lol.
Whoever sold that engine to you be waking up with a horses he's in there bed.... 😆😎
Hi
Is that a blue beacon on top of that older car I see?
Now this is him as older.
Depending on tolerances and weight of oil, 10 pounds for every 1000 rpm is a good rule of thumb when engine is at operating temp (180 degrees).
I've heard that too, but it shouldn't be that way with a properly rebuilt motor. I've noticed metal shavings in the oil too, which I forgot to mention.
I am aware of that
How are you going to have time for youre projects and also have time for a business? Please dont were youre self out. Love youre videos.
Very carefully lol. I'm trying not to but have definitely felt the pressure. It's still stressful, but it's a good exciting kind of stress! I am stepping back from filming reviews for a while since the viewership is so poor. What I really want to do is film a mix of personal and K & J project content.
Rotate those zipties on the heater hose also
covered shelter for all the extra...
metal carports are cheap....run thick mill plastic for the weather
I've got an 1986 s10
"T" type has 8.5" rear from factory
Saabkyle is becoming a grandpa
Where is the 4 door S10?
If you help with the shop I would love to join!
*need help
Ugh Kyle keeps getting hotter and hotter
Fyck yeah son !!!!!!
Pls depth tour Lamborghini aventador SVJ.
Do a wire tuck while your at it all those wires behind the distributor and wheel well, Yuck
Geez man, the truck isn’t even finished 😕 Give a guy a chance lol
Just found your channel.
Kind of surprised that you had the a/c installed?
Thinking it was more of a drag project.
Great vid though - hope it works out
Thank you! Not a drag project, just a fun street build. Sadly I never got a chance to hook the A/C up, but it was just about ready to rock. I'll have A/C with the LS swap too. I went over all of the things I did through the series to retain puller fans and A/C if you were curious. Thanks for watching!
Ls swap in the S10
Clearly....
cam bearings go bad almost all the time. Ive had 3 350 engines consecutively have bad cam bearings
Not what I want to hear. hahaha
@@MOE13576 in all fairness, it's not that difficult to replace them, just a specialty tool but it does require the engine to be stripped down to the bare block
@@nos1000100 Thanks for the feedback
Just break it down and have it stroked to a 383
Sell the motor to ChrisFix & let him rebuild it
Omg you sound just like junkyard digs
I've never seen that show before, I need to check it out
@@saabkyle04 😂
Hey you know you can disable the mid roll ads right? 10 ads in a 15 minute video really?
ad blocker plug-ins. Ublock Origin + Tampermonkey , add the 'Anti-Ad Killer' script to both plug-ins and enjoy UA-cam the way we did in the late 2000s.
