    All you need to do is to lower the control arm to get motor mounts in. Everyone I spoke with said that was a hard job. Piece of cake.

    Another thing you need to take note of is not only the number of shims, but the thickness of them also. GM has different thickness of shims to dial in the caster and camber. Did a lot of these when I did alignments when I worked at the dealership. It's best to keep the shims in order to side and location.

    • @saabkyle04
      @saabkyle04  4 роки тому +2

      That's a great point, thank you for sharing! I know I'll have to have it aligned, but hopefully this (and approximating the tie rod lengths) will get me in decent shape to limp it over there.

    • @dave1135
      @dave1135 4 роки тому +1

      @@saabkyle04 yeah, it's more than good enough to get it close. Even though the parts are new, they never match up 100% on the alignment, it's always a bit off. It's why a alignment is recommended. You did great work on that. Friend of mine who was a counter guy at carquest back in the 90s had a 1985 s15 with a 454 and a th400 trans and had the rear tubbed and rear end narrowed for Mickey Thompson racing slicks. thing was a beast

    The strech you cover is impressive. I've never been a fan of trucks, in particular not US-trucks. But the way you build them, makes me desire a truck like this. If only....

    I'm jealous of how good of condition this truck is in before the restoration. My dad bought my 88 new (I have the pic of dad, mom and 7 year old me at the dealership with the truck the day dad bought it in November 1987) I've had to replace the cab corners and front fenders for rust. I did a bell tech 4/5 drop on it back in my high school days and it was a bear of a job getting the leaf springs apart. Gonna put it on air ride here soon and plan to clean the whole frame up. Your truck looks pretty original. I love these build series by the way.

    When I did the suspension on my Caprice Classic, I wrapped the respective groups of Upper Control Arm shims in duct tape and marked them. ("passenger side front", "passenger side rear", etc.). I definitely like the spring compressor you used better than the one I used. Excellent video here my friend.

    Those coil springs are absolutely not dangerous. Some are but not those. You simply put a floor jack under the lower control arm, loosen the upper and lower ball joints and the release the jack and the spring will just release the tension and you can remove safely.

    Having said that I am a firm believer in two part chemical and fuel resistant finishing products. Spray can finishing products don't have long lives. On a daily driver they look good for only a few years. They just cant
    stand up to grease, fuel and brake fluid mishaps.

    With the extra horsepower you'd think people take proper precaution to handle stopping (braking) the increased power. Already had everything apart should of just upgraded rears to disc and front to double piston calipers (using OEM parts of the newer Gen S10/Blazer) in my opinion. Also might as well uprad the steering box to a zq8 box to go along with the new upgraded steering shaft other then that awesome work!
