  • Just a short visit to my favourite beat 2 and 3 pools as it's always too busy on the lower beat at Easter. Thought I had hooked into a wee fingerling, but it turned out to be quite a lot bigger than expected.

    Well done, lovely fish! I fair enjoyed that. Good to see things slowly starting to happen a few weeks should see the best dry fly fishing of the year.

      Aye, accidental fish are the best, and watching the river slowly come back to life has got me feeling optimistic about the next month or so. We'll have to see how things have changed and adapt to it, but the fish are still there, so that's good.

    Great vid what u think of the maxcatch gear?

    • @thetattooedangler
      @thetattooedangler  Рік тому

      The rods is pretty good, at least as good as rods I've used that were more than double the price, but the low end reels are badly made and there are often gaps between the body and spool. If youre using a running line then that can be an issue. Their shooting heads and mainlines are worth the money though. I've been using maxcatch skagit lines for years with no issues at all.

    Smashing mate, braw fish. That top part looks perfect for fishing wets, something I never really do on the river, but feel that I should. Always look to fish the dry, even when there's bugger all showing!.

      Aye, same. I rarely fish wets, but there are a few runs up by the railway bridge where theyre the only real option. I know a few fish them under the bung with some success, but it's not for me.

      @@thetattooedangler Aye, nae bungs here! I find the tight line nymphing is s bit too repetitive, streamers are awrite, but I reckon I could sometimes just enjoy chilling and swinging a wet fly 😁

  • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724

    Nice fish mate, we don't see many of that size in our little streams. Another monsoon for us today, its like bloody November! I think it's going to be a few more weeks before we see much rising.

      Dont want to rub it in, but there are fish that size and bigger all through the system here. its easier to catch them at the start and the end of the season though, when theyre hungry and trying to bulk up. Its reverted back to winter in edinburgh today, so i doubt the river will be fishable again for a few days at least. what nature gives, it takes away. oh well.

    Looks like a really peaceful place... even being so close to what sounds like an airport... I could certainly use some time in a place like that... Thanks for another enjoyable video mate.

      @thetattooedangler  Рік тому +1

      Apart from the terrifying scream of jet engines overhead every 15 minutes or so, it is very peaceful for about a half mile. Its just something that you get used too. There must be a few rivers close to you, but I expect they're either in the jungles and/or not suited for fishing.

    Fished for about 4 hours on Saturday with not a rise in sight fly life was still really poor started at the Brig and worked my way up, swung some wets had a small one and dropped another need to head further upstream next time and check some of these other parts out.

    • @thetattooedangler
      @thetattooedangler  Рік тому

      If you go up to the last run I showed, you can fish from there to about 50 yards below with wets, or go up to the airport and fish the deep pool where the second overflow comes out. there a signpost that you can't miss. the banks falling away there, so mind your footing

      @@thomaschapman1158 I would practice casting on a still water first mate, its a lot more forgiving. casting on a wee river like the almond needs a fair bit of control over the line, so someplace where you can let the line out behind you would be best to get the feel of it I reckon. if you want a quiet spot, pick anywhere on the river mid morning and mid-week. you'll get the place to yourself most of the time. you'll only learn so much that way though, so ask somebody to help you out. most will.
      the bridge is the queensferry road bridge, just upstream of the aul brig in cramond village.
