  • Baking the motherboard in the oven. I tested this UA-cam suggested solution for repairing a blank/blacked out screen for my LG 55LE5400 LED TV. Its' production/manufacturing date is NOV 2010, and the screen was operational without a problem until two days ago. I'm happy to have found this solution, and I can't believe it worked!
    UPDATE: March 11, 2020
    My TV stopped working again. This time the lines were diagonal and scrambled. It was the heat sink in the middle pulling away from the cpu beneath it. I fixed this by placing a heavy steel bowl on top of the heat sink as it cooled. So far so good, it worked (again)! This method is called flow soldering.

    I have a 2011 42” LG 42LE5500, symptoms were horizontal lines across the display and not picking up input from any source. I came across your video after searching for 2 days on finding a replacement main board or a place that repairs logic boards. The part for my TV is obsolete and had no luck. So either way I was at the end of my options.
    Tried this fix and IT WORKED!
    Removed the board, popped it in the oven for 10min at 190 degrees Celsius, allowed it to cool down and reinstalled into the tv.
    Thanks for the fix!

    That reaction when you saw it work it was awesome :) It's great when you repair something by yourself. I'll try the same on the motherboard of my TV...Wish me luck!

    its the IC under the Big Black heat sink if you put a small fan on that heat sink it will not unsolider again

      I followed the process of heating motherboard with hair dryer and worked! and i stuck a quiet computer fan over the motherboard vents so far working good! It is the same problem with any vertical motherboards with not a sufficient cooling like iMac graphic cards & these TV's. This TV needs a better cooling specially during summer time. The quality of the screen is outstanding and what a waste to dumb it in junk for a simple design flaw. Gravity + heat = solder bleeding downward & Chip tilt away form board....Duhhhhhhh LG engineers.

      @@RonH_music thats not the Real reason, Solder balls cracks because fatigue, cycling power on-off , warmming-cooling. lead free Solder are too rigid

    How can I fix the touch screen volume?

    You said to set the oven temp at 385°!? Solder generally starts melting at 190°. Just did mine barely over 200° while using a temp gun on the mother board the whole time and it's back to working order. Thanks for the video.

    What was it doing before it would not come on at all, that made you think it was another remote controlling it? Was it powering off on its own? Mine is cycling (powering off then back on) when I turn it on. Replaced my power board, but no luck. Thinking of trying this next, but the set still works, so I'm a little afraid to do it.

      Hi Redwillow, my apologies for such a delayed response. I almost never sign in from my laptop and see these...
      Before my screen went completely black it started flickering on and off then would go out completely. I knew it wasn't the led panel because when the picture was on it was clear and consistent.
      The light-up LG logo also illuminated. I saw here on UA-cam that the problem was the motherboard cracking. Sure enough this method worked perfectly. In fact it only just started flickering out again, this time in a different way, but baking the board again worked a second time. So the first time bought me about 7 months of continued heavy use.
      This second time the flickering was diagonal and scrambled lines of picture, but if I lefty my tv on for a day, that would disappear adthe picture would return. That was definitely not going to work for me... So I tried again. It was the heat sink sitting above the CPU. the big one right in the middle. Sometimes as they get old they bend/bow up/out away from the cpu, and the thermal paste in between does not make a clean connection. REMEDY: bake your board and when it is cooling down place something heavy and steel on top of the heat sink so it remolds it self. I used small a 5lb steel bowl. It's working now. So far so good. Oh, I also lost a microcontroller from the heat of the oven on round 2. It hasn't caused any problems yet. This circuit board is a beast!

      My remote control started acting with a delay, and the channels would spontaneously change on its own.

    Hello luke what type of oven do you use? Electric oven? Or gas oven?

    • @lukeogara
      @lukeogara  Рік тому

      My oven is gas, but the medium is not as important as the temperature.

    Where is the power button on this tv

    • @lukeogara
      @lukeogara  4 роки тому

      The power button is at the lower right corner when you run your finger across that area, the control panel should illuminate. Unless yours is defective like mine, and no longer works. In which case use the remote or fix it. I just use the remote.

    one of the capacitors(I think) in mine exploded

      Depending on which capacitor, your tv may still function. Some of these boards have two capacitors for the same purpose.
