Run the same set up for 2 years now over the summer months & they rock. Switch front to a Magic mary speedgrip for spring & autumn then full magic Mary front n rear for winter months.
Thank you for sharing. I run Hans Dampf and Nobby Nick with the softer Trail compound on my trail bike here in Denmark. Our trails are relatively flat and not enduro, so HD/NN are great for that purpose. I have a wheelset with Magic Mary/Hans Dampf for Enduro and DH and that works great! Thank you for a good video :)
My parents are letting me use their 2.6 29er Hans Dampf speed grip for this season!, I got a Mountain king pure grip 2.3 for $50 on sale. I can't wait to try this set up after the ice and snow melts on my Hardtail.
I got Cube Stereo Hybrid 120 SLT 2023, which came with these tyres: _Hans Dampf 29x2,6'' Supertrail/Speedgrip/Evo (Black)_ . Scwalbe gives it 6 stars for rolling (of 10) . Normally it comes with Smart Sam 29x2,6'' Performance Folding (Black) . Scwalbe gives it 4 stars for rolling (of 10) . Smart Sam looks better rolling, but suprisingly is not, according to the company. Wicked Will SuperRace/Speedgrip 29x2,4'' has 8 stars for rolling Seems strange, when comparing to Hurricane 29x2,25'', which has 4,5 stars at best. Do you have any info about this kind of rollings stuff? To me both seem a bit of overkill, I mostly wanted the suspension for comfort, maybe a bit of gravel rroads, (gravel) trails, *but mostly just asphalt* . Im bit afraid of the rolling properties of these kind of wheels. Ive had MTBs earlier, but without E-motor, and smaller wheel sizes.
The Magic Mary has significantly more rolling resistance, but much more grip - more suited to enduro/downhill style riding but could definitely be used on a trail bike as well. However, this extra grip does come with a large weight penalty - approximately 1300g in a 29 inch tyre. 1 The Hans Dampf is an all rounder with less rolling resistance than the Magic Mary, but of course with reduced grip. That therefore means it weighs less at approximately 900g in a 29 inch tyre. As to your question - it depends on how much you care about weight, for trail riding I would say that the Hans Dampf front and rear is a better combo, but for enduro/downhill, the extra grip probably outweighs the weight penalty that the Magic Mary gives. Overall, though, don't worry too much - whatever you go with will still be an excellent tyre! Hope this helps!
Hi guys, I bought a couple of Vittoria tires for my bike a couple of weeks ago. MEzcal and Barzo. They roll really well. But now I decided to get a new bike, it comes next week, and the tires are the Hans Dampf... :( They look like great tires for mud, but I like low rolling resistance, and I ride mostly in dry conditions, so I believe there is no need for the Hans Dampf. What do you guys think? Thanks
What compound are the HD on the new bike? Speedgrip actually rolls pretty well in dry dusty conditions, it's draggy on tarmac tho so not great if your route to the trails includes a bit of road riding. Can't you fit the Vittorias on the new bike, or is it different wheel size?
@@trickyrickymtb5622 thanks for your answer. The back is the speedgrip, the front is the soft version. Both hans dampf. Both brown wall version. My old bike is 27.5. this is 29. I have HD 29 super trail, soft on front and speed grip on rear; my father has mezcal so I know them both. Rolling is much better on mezcal so if you do hardpack and country roads, Vittoria is better. With my bike (HD) I do mostly trails (up and down) in dry condition, often in dirt condition (leafs, roots, pine cones, rocks...) and HD goes well with it, good grip and forgiving tyre.

Don't get me wrong, I've always been a big Schwalbe fan. However, if you're looking for a seriously fast-rolling, grippy trail combo that won't make you feel like you're riding in syrup when you're on tarmac, you should take a serious look at Vittoria's Agarro on the rear and Martello on the front. My new go-to setup. I think they're a bit lighter than the Schwalbes too.
I'll give them a look, but to be honest I'm loving the double dissector setup atm. Rolls super fast on all surfaces with the DC on the rear and the Maxxterra on the front holds almost as much as a DHF in the corner, without that feeling of hesitation you normally get when transitioning.
I'm currently running a HD speed rear and a MM soft front. Very nice setup that I absolutely love in all conditions here in Belgium (pretty muddy as I write this). The HD has all the traction you need, clears mud so well and is pretty lightweight. And the MM is a tank of a tire. Like you said, this setup brings confidence regarding its reliability. I just find the MM a bit overkill for my trail use and I feel it slows me down in some cases. So I was considering going HD rear, HD front for a bit more rolling power and why not going NN rear/DH front in summer or maybe all year... I don't know. Did you have the chance to try the NN rear in muddy conditions yourself ?
Hi, I actually prefer the new NN ove the HD for both front and rear. The new treat pattern rolls well enough and digs in better when cornering due to the yread spacing. I've gone off the HD as a front as you quickly find the limitations of the tyre. Agree totally re the Magic Mary, its a beast, but not an all-rounder. I'm really enjoying the Dissector at the moment.
