Shimano deore M6000 brake hack & Bondiq
Please no music! Makes to have to hear your "rant".
"Hard" not have... sorry my phone is dying.
Interesting video/hack. I would like to know how the brakes felt after the alteration.
Dude the sound volume difference of the atromusic and your voice is annoying
Summer tyres, aweful in mud and winter months. Does not grip or clear mud xx
Quality.I used to 'darts' pinched together to get them 'blank' screws out...Ha!!

Would 10 mm length be ok? Or is just the 12 one good?
I just ordered 15mm
I want both and cant afford any😂... Good vid 👌
Great video sir. Is that the REKON 29x2.6 3c maxxspeed exo TR? never knew it exist, all i can found online is the maxxterra version.
nice but honestly I don't understand why would anyone need this or buy a higher model just for the toolless reach adjustment....it's not like your fingers grow big during the ride ;o] it's pretty much set it and forget it thing so once it's set to your preferrence you never touch it again
@HeadBassVTEC it's just a hack. no one needs to do it.
how long are the m4 screws that you replace the cap screws with?
@@derekcraig3617 12mm, actually use m4x12 titanium grub screws now. Look better.
So shimano has a lazy naming scheme. Having both a reel and a bike named the same...
The real hack here is improvising the tool bit. You wouldn't need to replace the standard plug once you have the proper bit.
The standard screw is inly 10mm long and doesn't fully adjust the reach, but if the range if adjustment was enough, then yes that is true
I didn’t feel any resistance in my right lever. Screws going very deep now. Doe this mean I damaged my lever?
Amazing tire, I use it as a front even on my old 26er for "xc" 😂 👌
Well, did it an i didn't see or felt any change. Lever moved but to the same position and the same contact point. In general, to remove a screw and fit new one with the same length to the same position, what can be changed? On the XT this is an adjustable screw, here, what the use? Do i miss something here?
Did ypu extend the lever adjust all the way out before installing the new screws, and did you slightly hold the lever in a touch when doing it? Also what length screw did you use?
@@trickyrickymtb5622 No. It doesn't show in the Vid'. Can you explain the steps?
@@TomerGur it's discussed in the comments, bit fully extend the reach adjust and before fully screwing g in the new screw, very slightly pull the lever, literally the tiniest bit. Sometimes the screw can snag on a plastic part in the mechanism, this helps to line things up.
@@trickyrickymtb5622 Hi, did what you say and nothing happened... The fill and contact point are the same. I must be doing something wrong... Don't know what...
@@TomerGur what length screw are you using?
Works slightly. I only got about 10mm of lever travel before turning the bolt got harder (and I decided not to go further). Actually, I didn't see much difference to the hand ajustable srew around the other side of the brake lever mechanism. Oh well, worth a shot.
how long that screw should be?
I’m using a rekon for the front and DHF 2 for rear. I do desert loose over hard pack type riding and it seems to work well. 2.4 each.
Seems a wierd combo to me, but if it's working for you 💪
@@trickyrickymtb5622 oh… it is indeed a weird combo. The bonus is I have no clue what I’m doing. I’m a complete noob and the trails I’m riding are intermediate level in Tucson Arizona. The rekon on the back was damn near impossible to use for climbing on loose over hard pack so I’m changing it up and hoping for the best.
@@Prosecute-fauci be careful as your skills improve and you start getting deeper on the turns, the Rekon doesn't hook up well once it starts to slide. Great if it's working for you now, but a front wash out at speed hurts!
@@trickyrickymtb5622 thank you for the tip sir. What would your recommendation be for a front tire/tyre used for dry desert riding. I will literally buy anything at this point. I’m open for any suggestion.
@@Prosecute-fauci I'm from the UK, which is about as far as you can get from dry desert hardback, so I don't really feel equipped to offer a recommendation. Maybe look up some facebook groups, there will be loads of ppl more qualified than me to help with that terrain.
собираюсь приобрести эти обода 421 для трассы и бездорожья , леса.!!

Hi mate after some help.. just purchased this bike and hasn’t came with owners manual.. do you know where and how I could get one? Need to find out how long charging time is etc… Many Thanks Rik
Sold this bike a couple of years ago and haven't had a Canyon since, so I can say what I would do. I assume your tried Canyon directly? If that failed, look for the Neuron:ON Facebook group, there's loads of helpful advice and support on offer.
I got Cube Stereo Hybrid 120 SLT 2023, which came with these tyres: _Hans Dampf 29x2,6'' Supertrail/Speedgrip/Evo (Black)_ . Scwalbe gives it 6 stars for rolling (of 10) . Normally it comes with Smart Sam 29x2,6'' Performance Folding (Black) . Scwalbe gives it 4 stars for rolling (of 10) . Smart Sam looks better rolling, but suprisingly is not, according to the company. Wicked Will SuperRace/Speedgrip 29x2,4'' has 8 stars for rolling Seems strange, when comparing to Hurricane 29x2,25'', which has 4,5 stars at best. Do you have any info about this kind of rollings stuff? To me both seem a bit of overkill, I mostly wanted the suspension for comfort, maybe a bit of gravel rroads, (gravel) trails, *but mostly just asphalt* . Im bit afraid of the rolling properties of these kind of wheels. Ive had MTBs earlier, but without E-motor, and smaller wheel sizes.
Part Nr. Y8VC98070 Shimano Deore XT BL-M8000 Stroke Adjust Screw & Shim 0.3mm
So the screw size is M4*12?
Late to the party but I’ll mention this since nobody else has.. the reason you can’t get the screw in any further is because there is a piece inside that will fall out of place once the screw is fully removed. The only way to properly re-insert any screw is to lift that piece into position while turning the screw in and this can’t be done without taking the brake lever apart fully. People are ruining their brakes by turning the newly inserted screw too far because it’s wedging up against a part that it should be passing underneath.
On five sets of brakes where I have done this, only one lever had this issue. The way to avoid it is to fully extend the reach adjust prior to removing the original screw. This does work.
@@trickyrickymtb5622 that’s good to know. I’ve been taking them apart. Thanks!
Maxxis Recon Icon or CST tires?
Thanks, just bought a pair of them for my e-bike 👌👍
Use tires with the most grip in the front. All of your combinations have the softer compound tire in the rear
No they don't, all my rears are dual compound, with my fronts being Maxxterra. Only where I'm using schwalbe do I Sometimes use the same compound front and rear, and this never when I'm riding tech.
Thank you for sharing. I run Hans Dampf and Nobby Nick with the softer Trail compound on my trail bike here in Denmark. Our trails are relatively flat and not enduro, so HD/NN are great for that purpose. I have a wheelset with Magic Mary/Hans Dampf for Enduro and DH and that works great! Thank you for a good video :)
Needle bearing 😂
More like making the starting point closer to the bite point, cause the bite point doesn’t change position sadly
That's the whole point, shortening the biting point means less travel of the lever before it bites. That's how shimano levers are designed.
Why not ditch the music so we don't struggle to hear what you're saying?
Done!!!! Thank you brother 👍
eww a 1x.
I would use a screw as close to the look of the XT one as possible. But a nice feature to have at no extra cost. I can see why people mix and match components considerable savings can be had with no performance lost with the right mix of components. XTR bearing jockey wheels can be used on the M6100 derailleur as a bit of a hack. 😎👍
I actually ended up changing the bolts to titanium m4 hex grub screws. Much neater. 12mm length looks best.
Why you didn‘t the original lenght of the Screw?
I prefer the Maxxis Dissector to the Recon for the front tire. It rolls great while still providing the cornering control the Ardent does not have.
Hi. On my fun montainbike I have the NN front and rear. Just bought a spare pare for it of MM front and BB rear. I'm not a pro, so for my daily montainbike, that has the 2,25 Smart Sam, I want to try the HD super trail 2,35 addix soft on rear, and Rocket Ron super race 2,35 addix speed on front. I don't know what I'm doing... 🤣🤣🤣 Maybe as a spare pare for this one, I will try the R Ray front and R Ralph rear. Cheers...
Haha, you really are all over the place. Got some experience by now with your wide range of tires?
Hi guys, I bought a couple of Vittoria tires for my bike a couple of weeks ago. MEzcal and Barzo. They roll really well. But now I decided to get a new bike, it comes next week, and the tires are the Hans Dampf... :( They look like great tires for mud, but I like low rolling resistance, and I ride mostly in dry conditions, so I believe there is no need for the Hans Dampf. What do you guys think? Thanks
What compound are the HD on the new bike? Speedgrip actually rolls pretty well in dry dusty conditions, it's draggy on tarmac tho so not great if your route to the trails includes a bit of road riding. Can't you fit the Vittorias on the new bike, or is it different wheel size?
@@trickyrickymtb5622 thanks for your answer. The back is the speedgrip, the front is the soft version. Both hans dampf. Both brown wall version. My old bike is 27.5. this is 29. I will try it and see. Maybe get a mezcal for the back, if it's too draggy? I usually do longer rides with some tarmac on the way.
@@zalle1 Hmm dilemma, I do like the HD and that combo should perform well, but there are better tyres out there. The current HD tread pattern is showing its age. I'd see how you go with it, never know you might really like them.
@@trickyrickymtb5622 Hey, thanks. I just ordered some Vittoria mezcal for the summer. I got the non folding version, really good price. And I don't use them tubeless, so makes no difference to me.
I have HD 29 super trail, soft on front and speed grip on rear; my father has mezcal so I know them both. Rolling is much better on mezcal so if you do hardpack and country roads, Vittoria is better. With my bike (HD) I do mostly trails (up and down) in dry condition, often in dirt condition (leafs, roots, pine cones, rocks...) and HD goes well with it, good grip and forgiving tyre.
What happens when you break the mechanism? I have the screw all the way in and I didn't really notice the adjustment. I did hear what may have been plastic breaking, but it really didn't take much pressure at all for that to happen. Did I just lose the ability to adjust or something worse?
Same happened to me. Wish I never stumbled across this video. Brakes still work, but are no longer smooth like before.... super bummed.
Revisiting this. Any updates on this? Does breaking the mechanism make the lever feel restricted or spongy?
I tried your hack with a M4 12mm screw that I paid 50 cent at a hardware store near home. I don't think that anyone is supposed to insert a screw more than 10mm in, because past that point you risk breaking the mechanism. The fact that the Shimano XT brake has a 10mm and the same exact structure (correct me if I'm wrong), is a pretty big tell imo. I think that the your hack should only be used for people that want to have MORE free stroke. I watched some other disassembly videos and I think my theory is correct. I can even see the stock screw pushing the piston, it seems all the way, with a plastic thing. I decided to revert back to the stock screw because I like the minimum free stroke and I don't want to risk breaking the lever while trying to reach the maximum point with a longer screw. On that note, do you know we can buy the replacement plastic part that is pushed by the screw, in the case it gets broken? The replacement is fairly easy.
I don't agree with your assessment of the screw 'increasing' the free stroke. I've done this on several sets and achieved a shorter stroke each time. You need to adjust the reach to its most open position before adjusting the throw. Also pulling the lever in a touch whilst adjusting the throw helps avoid damaging the mechanism. You are right in that the mechanism is fragile, so care is needed.
Will this work on Deore M6100 brakes?
theres no free stroke port on m6100 levers, so nope
Nice job
Why not mixing vendors? I.e. rekon back hans dampf front? Cheers
I'm a bit anal and NEED to have a matching brand front n rear 🤪
What was your long term assessment of this cassette would you still recommend it ?
Absolutely, I would classify it as a high quality cassette, on par with equivalent shimano and sram offerings.
@@trickyrickymtb5622 Cheers Pal 🍻
Thanks for the vid - can you tell me what brand is your bike stand..? Looks cool.. thanks..
Got it from Decathlon, it was their best one. Its pretty good, but struggles with the heavy emtbs. I have a park tool stand now, something.. 10.3
Nice one! I’ve just installed the xt screws into my slx brakes levers.
does the 2.35 rear you mentioned has the same inner diameter rim as your 2.6 front?
does this work with the newer BL 7100 lever ? anyone tried?
Yes it does 👍
Just done it on my Zee levers. Works a treat 👍🏻
Nice one, I can also conform it work on the latest generation of m7100 SLX levers. Stated incorrectly in the vid that I believed it didn't
