We adopted our cat at about the same age. She walked in, asserted her dominance, and we've been serving her food, massaging her back, and scooping her turds for her ever since.

If she was anxious it would be much lower as she would not be trying to call attention to herself. She would also be more slinky and slower in her wandering. But she was prancing around pretty happily, tail up in that tale tell question mark, and she kept rubbing herself on everything saying that its hers now. That's a cat that is feeling safe to explore. Though I do think she was looking for potential hide outs when she was insisting on snooping under the couch so bad, lol.
I love that Kitty is making herself at home. Rubbing her scent all over and even purring. She’s definitely a keeper and a lovely addition to any family. 😊🇨🇦

Actually...the cats tail in that straight up "inverted J" pose is a happy cat. Although I do have one cat who doesn't do it...but she has her tail up and curved forward, Miss Patches doesn't seem to be able to turn the tip, also her tail, for some reason, which I don't know, is a tad bit shorter than the tails of all her kids. It's really not much shorter, maybe a quarter inch...but it really LOOKS short.
My daughter and I rescued a yellow kitten. We found him on the side of the road in the bushes. From the moment he got home he felt very comfortable and started playing with everything right away. They definitely recognize when life has changed for the better. Your cat knows that she has found a good home. Thanks for saving a life.
And my, originally indoor cat, is now even happier now that he has access to the world. The hunting, for an amateur, is very impressive. I trained him well
@@dragonsdynamite6403 I raised 5 kittens after the mother died when I was 14-17. I allowed them outside too, trained them well, and they would catch birds and mice and bring them back to and put them down in the kitchen, like, "You fed me, now it's my turn." 🤣

Black kitties are underappreciated! I also have a black young cat with the same slim, lean build. He is about a yr old and is such a hoot to have around, his antics are hilarious damn near everyday. Also have a 11 yr old big black cat that is much more chill and a complete snuggle bug. He has an amazing purr. I feel bad that black cats tend to take longer to home, they can be such a joy to have just as any other coloring of cat.
Bro it reslly depends on the cats personality and individuality! Some cats get more scared and hide for abit etc.. some are very confident some are etc.. also factor in their environment and circumstances too
This brought a tear to my eye. My cat 'Sheba' was a spitting image of Hildegard. I still remember the first day I brought her home and how she explored. Sheba passed away a few years ago at the ripe old age of 18. Was a wonderful cat. Still miss her....
She is still a youngster. So, so pretty. She looks like a sweet heart all lovey and cuddly. Best wishes for your new baby lots of love 💕 I will be watching for more videos.
Petting the cat as it walks around is a good idea too. Keeping quiet is best. Looks like its getting used to it's surroundings. Human touch is so important too. Meow

Thats the first thing the animal hears/sees. And they wonder why it squirms away. Quiet, gentle, soft, gentle touch. And no blasting music.

Tip: Put the food dish and water at least 6' apart. Cats eat, chew then move to the water and contaminant it. The cat food in the water in just a few hours in a warm room turns rancid. Cat's main enemy is urinary tract issues. Putting the two as far apart as possible really helps.
I too have a black rescue cat. These little panthers are incredibly intelligent but easily spooked, any loyalty they give you has to be earned. It's taken 2.5 years for Pippa to come out of her protective shell, but well worth the wait!
It makes me happy that other people know what the "candy cane" tail position means. My cat Lele comes to me and her tail is always in that position when we're together. She lives with my aunt now, but she still greets me with that happy tail any time I visit.

"Get your motor running"... I love it.... My dad was a vet, so I've had many pets. Cats are my favorite, and this lady seems like she's stoked to be there. My black cat, AJ is my best friend, and he keeps me laughing. Things I've observed over the years is that cats love to hear you laugh, they love good music, and they weirdly love for you to talk to them like to another human. You don't have to hold them, but just talk normally...as in a conversation with another human. So cool to watch their reactions..... Enjoy!
yes, the way they look at you sometimes is so funny! when you talk to my dad's cat, Ramses, in the way you're describing, sometimes if you're lucky he'll maintain eye contact with you, then turn his head to the side and give a tiny meow. makes you wonder what they're thinking about. it's also great when you slow blink at them and they slow blink back. feels like an accomplishment lol.
When I was a boy, a neighbor cat named Hildegard visited our house every night by climbing in my bedroom window. We had a little kitten, and Hildegard would let the kitten nurse on her! I don’t know if Hildegard had milk, but the kitten was happy!
I love all cats but actually grew up a dog lover. After the Army I fell in love with my roommate’s cat. I always thought cats were cool but it never crossed my mind to adopt a cat. Now I have 2. My first cat Chip is a black domestic short hair so I have a special place in my heart for black cats. My second, Calvin is a Norwegian Forest Cat who has a gray & white fur mix with splotches of brown here & there. This kitty is gorgeous. Now I am a full blown cat daddy fanatic & cannot imagine a life without cats. Congrats on the kitty & thanks for giving your mini panther a forever home.

And her humans have calm voices...so important for a cat! Thanks for posting this. i imagine Hildegard has a great new home and hope it's a joy for all of you.

Purring can also be a sign of anxiety. She was scent marking a lot of spots so she could get her bearings in her new (and larger) "enclosure."

One of my cats used to curl her tail into a circle when she ate.
Cats tend to do that when they feel accepted. This one was admiring his new beautiful home.
When your adopted cat comes in and looks around instead of hiding in a corner you know the rescue treated them right.
That's a VERY happy tail for a first day in a new home. She's going to be fine!

Yes! We tried to be extra quiet while she explored. She was friendly right away and wanted us to pet her as soon as she came home!
