You'll KNOW he's happy when he walks around with his tail STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR with a little crook at the end (like a question mark) -- that's CAT for " life is good"!!!
Only cat advice you'll ever need....go watch every Jackson Galaxy video on UA-cam! He has advice on everything and it all works. For sleeping thru night...hunt catch kill eat before bed. So play with him (hunt catch), and then immediately feed him his wet food (kill eat). This will make his brain super chill. He'll then groom himself and sleep for hours on end. Also, don't feed him 1st thing when you wake up. Wait a bit so he won't associate you waking up with food. And congrats!! And thank you for adopting!!! He's adorable!
People think cats dont care about us. I took in a stray adult that was hanging around where I worked, and one night I just took her home. I could not have asked for a better cat! Rescues know when they've been saved. You should have a good friend for years to come!👍
Cats are nocturnal. You may never be able to get Bennett to sleep through the night, but it should get better as he gets older. When he talks to you be sure to talk back - meow back!! He’s beautiful. I can’t imagine life without a pet!
All of mine and families cats have slept through the night. As kittens yes they will be hyper at night and morning. Play with them a lot before bed and they should sleep most or all night. And as they get older it will be better
@@country18lover Yep, exactly! : ) Play, physically play with him an hour before bedtime and your adorable cat Bennet will sleep, likely through the night🐈😺!
Oh my goodness he looks exactly like my 2 year old Chrundle (Thunder officially). He is a kitty from the Bronx and he is EXTREMELY scared of strangers but he warmed up to me so quickly when I moved in. He’s also (sometimes frustratingly) curious and EXPRESSSIVE. He is the most vocal cat I’ve ever met and is super affectionate as well (with me and my gf). If he’s grown up to be anything like my boy you are a very lucky cat owner, but you have to make sure to give him good stimulation every day (I’m sorry for the nighttime meows in that case)
Thank you for speaking up about the over crowding and the dire situations that cats and dogs are in. Thank you for adopting Bennett. He looks like he is settling in and adjusting to his new home. I can tell you two are going to be best friends.
Had to pause at only 3 minutes and 35 seconds into the video to say how incredibly lucky Bennett is to have you! Watching you unbox all the kitty supplies and show that finished cat tree made me a little misty-eyed. I am a regular volunteer at a local cat shelter where I live, and I wish for wonderful people like you to adopt all the cats! You are going to be a great cat mom.
Thank you for being so willing to help!! You have a big heart. You are so appreciated and loved, even from across the screen right now. I hope you are doing well yourself. :)
Congratulations on adopting Bennett! He's adorable! Thank you for speaking about the shelters and how overcrowded they are. I work in dog rescue in TN and its never ending at the animals that need a safe and loving home. The rewards outweigh the sleepless nights and all the money spent.
Wow if that all happened within just a few days then I think the fosters and you did a super good job at socializing him. Heartwarming and reminds me of getting my first cat. Spend a week shopping for random stuff like there was a baby coming. From what I saw it looks like you and Bennet are really hitting it off and that'ws awesome!
What a handsome little fella! He is absolutely adorable! I can see why you've fallen in love with him. The story of Bennett goes so well with your story that I know he is a totally meant to be your cat.
I love that you said you were going to cry when you were looking at your kitty at the adoption place. It means you have a big momma heart. Thank you for rescuing!!
I love this! I'm a cat mama of 4 cats, 3 males, and 1 female. I didn't get them from the shelter but I kind of rescued two from an elderly friend as kittens and the other 2 followed my son home this past July, they were about 9 weeks old, at least that's what the vet told me. I commend you. I'm thinking about adopting a senior cat because it's hard to place them in homes. Thanks for this lovely video, he's adorable!
Bennett 😍😍😍 Best advice for getting them to be calmer during the night is to not give attention when they try to wake you up. But to be honest your nights of uninterrupted sleep are probably gone. Thank you for giving him a home! I adopted my boy about a year and half ago and it was the best thing I’ve ever done.
that is true! My little princess always comes to say "hello" around 3-4am every night. But, I have to go to the bathroom at night anyway so I give her a treat and pet her and then she goes back to bed.
Thank you for mentioning NYC ACC! Adopted both of my sweet baby cats from there - Meeko and Bay! They are always in need of help, whether it be donations or fostering! Also, as a new cat mom, make sure to google common things that are toxic to cats, such as plants and cleaners, etc. I was shocked to find out how many things can be dangerous to our babies, especially flowers!! Love to you and Bennett!!
I am so happy for you. I adopted my beloved dog Zola when I was 27 and she changed my life completely for the better. There I just nothing better than the love you will receive. ❤. Bennett is absolutely precious!
Whole fam literally obsessed! Welcome home handsome beautiful Bennett CONGRATULATIONS. Your notes on adopting are so completely lovely Thank you wonderful Alexis
Congrats on adopting! Bennett is still pretty young so playing before bedtime will help tire him out a bit. When I adopted my kitty last year it was very overwhelming, but it just takes time to develop a routine. Also, I suggest moving the cat tree near the window so he can bird/people watch. Congrats again, can't wait to see more of you both.
YAY!!!! I felt just like this when I brought my puppy Chester home ( never had a puppy til him). He is sooo beautiful and you are already a great cat mom !!
I’ve had cats in my life for 60 years. I learned to speak cat early, it really helps to put a new cat at ease. They understand the slow blink, a happy face, excitement and discipline - frowning. They are also put off by staring, unless it is during a game. Showing love receives love in return. Congratulations new mama, now time for me to go and find out how things are going. All the best for your future. PS. You wearing glasses really, really well.
Awww, congrats on Bennett! I adopted a cat from an independent rescue in NYC last year and she is the best (she's sitting in my lap right now as I watch this video!). I'd love to adopt or foster more cats, but I just don't have the space. I imagine a lot of people are in that situation, and that makes it harder on the shelters here. Thanks for raising awareness about how rough it is right now.
Also this is true... no matter what the box that your cattree came in are alot more interresing then the actual tree. All cardboard boxes are a great thing to play in.
Thank you for adopting!. Bennett is precious. Try moving the cat tree near the window & I guarantee he'll start using it. Cats love to look outside and lay in the sun. Also, he will settle down at night, eventually, he's still young. You're going to make a great mom.
Bennett is the cutest! I’m so happy for you. I’m moving in January and was already planning to adopt a cat, this is another sign that now is the perfect time ❤
Oh man this takes me back to when I adopted my cat while living in my studio apartment 😂 the night zoomies! She did that for a few nights but started to get comfy and calm down ❤
He is such a beautiful cat! What I do with my cat before I go to sleep is I tire her out by playing a lot with her and then I feed her a bedtime meal. She’ll then follow me to bed and go to sleep, she still will get up around 5 and start meowing but I just ignore her and she usually stops until I get up to feed her breakfast.
When you set up the window area for Bennett, make sure it's clear of plants, PC or laptop, anything you don't want him to break. Maybe make it so cozy like a bed so that would be his daybed. Lol yes, cats love all the attention and get spoiled easily. They are also adorable when it comes to other pets, they even share their foods, water and lick each other in signs of affection. Really cute.
Congrats on adopting Bennett! My cat, Isabelle, lived to be 20 years old and was a wonderful companion! Hopefully you’ll have at least that many years and more with Bennett.
Hello Alexis, Oh my Bennett is so adorable ! It’s awesome you’re giving him a forever home. You bought him so many Nice welcoming items to help him feel comfortable in his new home. How kind. If you Play with Bennett and keep him active and awake during the day he “might” sleep better at night, but cats are nocturnal for the most part, especially young ones. Also if you rub catnip on his bed or scratching post/tree he might like it much more. Once you get to know Bennett more, you’ll be able to find out what his favorite toys some cats like a string toy, that you could play with them some cats like those toys that they chase around with a ball in the circle. That he can keep himself entertained that are motorized too🤷♀️ You are doing a WONDERFUL job as a cat mom ❤️ Bennett and you will be best buddies 💕
Bennett is adorable and I can see how loved he is already! I am fostering an 11 year old black cat called Soppy. He’s a very large cat and also overweight but is gradually getting slimmer. His young owner had to give him up due to housing issues and I give him regular updates. I have had a cat most of my life but not for the last few years and I’m really enjoying it.
Awe, Bennett suits him! He is cute and you are becoming a great cat Mom. He will acclimate to your sleeping schedule. It takes time. Hold him and give him kisses so he gets used to it! 💙🐾
So happy for you🎉❤. I got my cat 2 years ago and I tell him everyday that I can’t believe we live together ❤😂 he is the best thing that has ever happened to me
Bennet is SOOO BEAUTIFUL OMG! so happy you rescued him 🥰🥰 I’ve had 2 older cats in the past and have a 1 year old cat right now that is much more energetic during the night than my pass ones. a good tip is to put the cat tree near the window, they love seating on high places looking through the window, it helped my cat calming down during the night. i’ve also found it helpful to play a ton with him before bed and wearing him out so he can be calmer when i go to sleep. I hope these help ❤️
Bennett is so cute! I am actually adopting a cat as well! He looks so much like Bennett I am happy to be adopting him from the shelter. Thank you for sharing the importance of shelters and they really need our help. When I was at shelter where my cat was at I was just sad as to how many animals are there I wanna take them all
He's so adorable 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Also as for the cat, you could get him a crate since you live in a studio or whatever. Train him to see it as his bed and you can put a blanket over it so it'll be dark enough for him to feel safe, warm, and ready to sleep. I do it with my 2 kitties ONLY when they're being too rambunctious when I'm trying to sleep.
Ahhhh this makes me so happy!! I found your videos about a month ago and binged SO MANY (especially your moving / redoing you apartment videos) as I was going through the process of packing up and moving to a studio apartment. I’ve taken so much inspiration from you as I’ve been setting up my new spot. Also I have a little cat and I could not be more happy that you’ve adopted a fur baby! Thanks for documenting the process! ♥️
Try to play a lot before your bed time, protein snack. That takes their energy and they sleep at night. Don’t close under bed hiding spot if you have chance made a place there and add little door. It is good for your long term sleep health
You are so adorable right now, you look just like an expecting parent getting ready for the newborn. Really adorable. I can see you going goo goo, gaa gaa about Bennett. Lol
he's so handsome! love his name and your personal connection. for sleeping through the night, it gets better as they get older. but for our cats, our best way to remedy the night action was to give them their last food serving before we went to bed. often cats sleep after they eat so it's been a helpful trick for us. but our one cat still wakes up at 4 or 5 in the morning and causes ruckus either way
Bennett is super cute! When I got my cat, she also kept me up a lot... it's not perfect yet, but it's much better. The trick to remember is a cat's natural rhythm: hunt, kill, eat, clean, sleep. So you need to simulate the hunt and kill part just before you want to go to sleep. in the evening, I get ready for bed, and then I play with her for 10/15min, fill up her bowl and go to bed. then she can eat and usually comes to my bed to clean and then sleep. Hopefully that works for you too!
I also live in a no doors situation with my cat child Josie, and I had some luck with the sleeping early on by switching up her feeding schedule. switched her meals from twice a day to three times (same amount for the day, redistributed into 3 servings instead of 2) and feed her her last meal right before I go to bed, no matter what time it is. That occupies her for a while and she tends to get sleepy after eating. Definitely still get woken up by cuddles in the early morning, but it does help! the longer you two live together the more a routine will form, Josie knows when it's bedtime now, but GOD i was EXHAUSTED the first couple weeks with her.
I was watching one of your videos on friday and I literally thought “she should adopt a cat” and you did like omg i’m out there manifesting things ♥️ he’s so cute!!
Adopted my kitten a year ago. To this day, he still wakes me up at 01:30, every morning. Due to my past early working hours, I am used to waking early, so it's working out so far. 👍
My husband and I have three cats; one we got from a friend who couldnt take care of him anymore and the other two from rescues. I am so glad I adopted from a shelter and it's nice to see someone who takes the time to understand the struggles and importance of the phrase "adopt don't shop." For my cats the thing that worked best is having a set feeding time and playing with them for about a half hour before bed. One of the best resources that helped us develop a routine was Jackson Galaxy. He was a shelter worker for 10 years and has been a cat behaviorist for twice as long. His book "Cat Mojo" is my go to resource and he also has a youtube channel. I'm sure you can find some helpful info for you and Bennett. Another thing about the shelter world is the TNR (trap neuter return) work that non-profits and volunteers do. Fun fact: female cats can start having litters at six months of age and one female has an average of at least three litters per kitten season, with each litter between 3 and 5 kittens. From what I understand NYC has the highest rates of stray unfixed cats in the country and there's a non-profit Flatbush Cats that does TNR, foster and adoption. Another fun fact: cats are crepuscular, meaning they are most active during dusk and dawn hours. My cats would stay up at night for the first three weeks or so after we got them just to get used to the new environment. Once they settled in they sleep through the night and wake us up around 6am every day.
Hi I adopted an 8 week old kitten that is now 9 months old and has been sick for the past 2 months. She has 4 golf size lumps under her belly. After taking to three hospitals she was finally diagnosed correctly. Can you take a look at her story and share with others on social media if you don't mind? gofund.me/1c5f2594 she requires surgery and continued treatment in order to get healthy. She was getting incorrect treatment for that past 2 months till I finally found a great hospital. Thank you so much for taking the time to read her story.
Congrats for adopting Bennett!! I just adopt my 5th cat and it's the greatest bless in the world. Regarding your questions about sleep (probably you managed it by now) you can play with him during the afternoon so you worn him out and then he will sleep at night. If all my babies (yes they are still babies for me hahahaha) in a quick time manner they got the routine of the house and sleep the whole night, not one of them wake me up before my alarm goes up and in the weekends when I'm staying in bed for a little bit more they get that as well. So it will probably be a learning curve for you too but he will make you the most happy person in the world. Also consider doing a pet insurance since vet care in the US is extremely expensive and we never know when we may need. Love to you and Bennett
Motherhood looks great on you! Congratulations on your new life with sweet kitty Bennett! I too have a 1-year-old male cat. His name is Nix. My bud sleeps with me in my room (with the door closed). He usually starts on my bed but I have a kitty "perch" by the window and keep my blinds open a bit where he can see so if he wakes in the middle of the night, he usually lies in that area and watches things from the window. This makes for quiet entertainment. In the beginning, I just had to wait out his nighttime antics and made sure to play lots during the day. He adjusted quickly! You will continue to get to know each other and your love for one another will only grow! Sending luck and lots of love from one cat mom to another!
Omg he's so cute! I also live in a studio with my cat and there are toys all over my apartment lol. If Bennett wakes you up for food I'd recommend an automatic feeder but he'll probably chill out in a bit
Congratulations! So glad you adopted. And, love how Bennett matches your kitchen floor :). I was GOING to ask you if he was found on Bennett Ave or Park~ As someone who runs a small dog rescue, I appreciate your patience with Bennett and your instincts are all spot on!!! He is a lucky boy!
I have a tip of how to get cats to sleep over night its worked every time for me. Keep them awake during the day playing. Don’t let him nap at most only 10 mins during day. Then before bed play with him and give a small amount of food and he will sleep at night. Thank you so much for adopting and thank you so much for bringing up the shelter overcrowding issue and encouraging people to adopt from there.
Seriously made me cry!!! I have 3 cats all related I rescued as baby kittens they are the best!!! Thank you for using platform to share how important it is to rescue… I just lost my dog 2 months ago after 15 years and my heart is completely broken… I would love to be able to foster I think that would help me heal ❤❤❤❤
Bennett is so sweet. Enjoy your long life together. I have 3 and they're my kids! 🥰 ps-You'll need to learn to get to sleep with him having fun. That never ends. :)
So happy for your Alexis ❣My boyfriend and I got a cat in April this year and she is everything. Bennet will bring you so much joy. The wakeups in the middle of the night and early morning are so worth it. As for tips... he will eventually calm down during the night as he gets used to the place. Our cat was the same when we first got her but we don't have that problem now. She still wakes pretty earlier and wants to play late but that's pretty normal for cats. Congrats xx
Bennett is so cute! I am so excited for you! I have a cat, her name is Blu. She has roamed the nights for the last 11 years of my life, lol. I think you just get used to it.
Congrats on getting your kitty! For a night time routine, see if he would be comfortable sleeping in the bathroom. My cat has slept in the bathroom since he was born and I’m able to sleep all night and so does he. I also live in a studio and it’s worked well for us!

Congratulations! :) Bennett is so cute! You'll have so much fun together.
New to your channel, thanks for adopting your cat. I love the story behind his name.
Bennet is SOOO BEAUTIFUL OMG! so happy you rescued him 🥰🥰
I’ve had 2 older cats in the past and have a 1 year old cat right now that is much more energetic during the night than my pass ones. a good tip is to put the cat tree near the window, they love seating on high places looking through the window, it helped my cat calming down during the night. i’ve also found it helpful to play a ton with him before bed and wearing him out so he can be calmer when i go to sleep. I hope these help ❤️
Bennett is so handsome! This video made me smile.
Bennett is so cute! I am actually adopting a cat as well! He looks so much like Bennett I am happy to be adopting him from the shelter. Thank you for sharing the importance of shelters and they really need our help. When I was at shelter where my cat was at I was just sad as to how many animals are there I wanna take them all
congrats on getting your cat!
My kitty loves her kitty water fountain!! Maybe Bennett would like one too! They say it helps them drink more water! Congrats on your new kitty!
I was going to comment the same thing!! Definitely a good idea to get a water fountain. My cats love them.
i am looking into getting one!
WHAT A HANDSOME BOY!!! ❤️ What a great job adopting him! ☺️ ❤️
He's so adorable 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Also as for the cat, you could get him a crate since you live in a studio or whatever.
thank you for being here and watching! i hope your studio apartment is coming together nicely!
Lol
Congratulations to both of you, Bennet is a beautiful cat and has such a cute face : )!🐾🐾
he's so handsome! love his name and your personal connection. for sleeping through the night, it gets better as they get older. but for our cats, our best way to remedy the night action was to give them their last food serving before we went to bed. often cats sleep after they eat so it's been a helpful trick for us. but our one cat still wakes up at 4 or 5 in the morning and causes ruckus either way
Bennett is super cute!
Oh look at him! 😍 He looks so content in his new home
clicked on the video right away!! im so happy for you
At 6:58 Bennett gave you the cat 'blink'. It's how kitties say 'we're cool'.
Bennett is so cute. I have two fur babies. 2 rescue cats. I love them. Looking forward to seen more videos with Bennett.
Aww he is gorgeous! His eyes match your couch ✨
omg they do!
Good on you! I have 2 cats that someone needed to rehome and they love their human and talking to their human and...the best cats I've ever had!
My husband and I have three cats; one we got from a friend who couldnt take care of him anymore and the other two from rescues. I am so glad I adopted from a shelter and it's nice to see someone who takes the time to understand the struggles and importance of the phrase "adopt don't shop."
For my cats the thing that worked best is having a set feeding time and playing with them for about a half hour before bed.
Bennett is very lucky! Also, congrats on the 20K!
Great job Alexis. It breaks my heart so many animals need a home, but your video was refreshing. Congrats again.
Omg Bennett is adorable! Literally made me tear up. So happy for you! I have 3 kitties, Nikki, Tanner and Thor. Crazy but the best!
Hey I called it!!! In a few vids back, haha. Congratulations 🥳 Cats are everything. Currently watching this with one of my cats sleeping on my lap.
Omg he's so cute! I also live in a studio with my cat and there are toys all over my apartment lol. If Bennett wakes you up for food I'd recommend an automatic feeder but he'll probably chill out in a bit
i just got one and it is verrrryyy helpful
Congratulations! So glad you adopted. And, love how Bennett matches your kitchen floor :). I was GOING to ask you if he was found on Bennett Ave or Park~ As someone who runs a small dog rescue, I appreciate your patience with Bennett and your instincts are all spot on!!! He is a lucky boy!
Cats love love love looking out your window watching birds get Bennett a tall chair up against your window they can get boring to
I have a tip of how to get cats to sleep over night its worked every time for me.
I loved your vlog! I am thinking about getting a cat too! This was helpful and reassuring 🥹
He seems like such a good boy.
he is in good hands thank you
I love his white sortah eyebrows💖. Bennett is super adorable. Young cats are pretty rowdy at night for awhile🫣.
God Bless all of you cat lovers in the comments section. We need more of you in the world to care for the furry beasts.
Bennett is so sweet. Enjoy your long life together.
I have 3 and they're my kids! 🥰
ps-You'll need to learn to get to sleep with him having fun.
Congrats xx
he already is a lot calmer as he has started settling in!
I also live in a studio and it’s worked well for us!
do you have to keep his litter box, food, and water in there at night too?
That great you got yourself a cat I am proud of you you take care of the cat
