ThankS. This really helped on a 2009 Jetta in Mexico. It had no turn signals and the hazard lights would not work either. Picked up one of these from a local auto parts and plugged it in and it worked like a charm.
Thank you for showing what actually happens inside the switch. It's cool that you repaired it, but nowadays time is money, and an aftermarket replacement can be purchased between $20-30.
I also have a mk4 jetta with a similar issue, the passenger turn signal doesnt light up on the outside whether the turn signal or hazards are turned on, will this help ?

Very helpful but there must be an underlying reason why that terminal burnt out.
Both signals went out, but the Hazzard relay is working.

You might have a blown bulb or a severed wire..

There might be a short circuit inside of the 4 way flasher switch. You can open it and see if there is any loose connection or replace it..
