This is an EASY MOD to make. It was all I could do to not make a BMW joke in the video HAHA.. Thanks for watching. Here are the links to everything I used in the video: Comfort flasher kit ~ goo.gl/3NNDHF Radio removal tools ~ amzn.to/2Fp3mX3 Trim tool ~ amzn.to/2D4WY5b Wire terminal tool ~ amzn.to/2G04e5j
So Charles I have the base model deck (single din) and it resides in the lower portion of the space with the easy to remove filler plastic on top. Do you think I could do this without removing the deck? I have not purchased the removal keys yet so I am curious. Really enjoyed the video!
Good video for showing how to de-pin a connector. If you like the mod or not there is good info here. BTW, MK6 Jetta blinks 4 times and I love that feature.
Awesome work, I had a 2003 mk4 golf gti 9 years ago and it had the comfort turn feature it was a really awesome spec but had to sell it, I've just bought a nicely modded 2001 mk4 golf gti and this is the one thing I've missed the most, the kits ordered and this guide will come in super handy. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
Super happy I found this channel!! I bought a 1999.5 Jetta GLS VR6 about a year ago and had to make a couple repairs. So far this seems to be the only VW content out there. Keep it up! These step by step and how parts fail vids are a time, and money saver.
I had no idea OEMs made mods like that after the fact! Or was that an option on one of the packages from that generation? That I'm familiar with being a thing that can be put in like this with factory finish results.
Great video! For anyone who has issues removing their radio, I was actually able to do this same mod by only removing the vent cluster above the radio. The original owner of my 20th had some radio work done that ended up damaging one of the release tabs on the radio, so I found this method much easier than fiddling with the radio.
I did this mod on my B5.5 Passat several years ago, and I LOVE it. Almost every modern car has this feature. As stated in the video, it makes the car more up to date (ok, just a little). I had the hardest time de-pinning the wiring harness, but I didn't have a very good tool. If you don't have a quality re-pinning tool, I highly recommend getting one first!
One of those mods I can definitely keep on living just fine without, but I spent about a week driving my dad's Sportwagen and once I hopped back into my car, using the comfort signals had become reflex and I had to remember I didn't have them. Nice feature in situations where it's difficult to hold the stalk in the lane-change position but also hectic enough you don't want to manual-cancel. Maybe more of an issue when driving manual than auto?
Heh. Funny. This is pretty common in cars here in Europe (NL)! I love the feature and use it mostly always when changing lanes on highways. In city traffic i tend to just switch on indicators more and let the steeringwheel kick 'em off. It really is 'convenient'. ;)
Really liking these kind of videos, expecting to see more in the future! I own 2 VWs and this is pure gold for me. Going to install a backup camera in my MK7 Golf pretty soon :)
Often aftermarket head units come with some sort as well, sometimes #sonicelectronix or #crutchfield include them, or you can buy them from them. I've accumulated several over the years from different vehicles. The Blue Oval is a PITA because they use four round holes, one at each corner (I made one out of wire coat hangers for my 92 F150 many years ago). You can also make them pretty easily... if I can find the DIY write-up or video I used (and if it's OK with Charles), I'll post the link.
I never liked this feauture much on my Evolution X! As a side note you ought to edit the videos so that everytime you mention "R32" you play your R32 driveby video clip
Hey Charles, I'm Zach. I've been hardcore thinking about going into the mechanic field, I've always liked kinda figuring out how things worked, especially mechanically. But my question isn't really about, you know, how to get into it, your advice, etc, because you have videos on that. Basically what I'm wondering are your thoughts on the Mazda Rotary engine, if you know much about them, etc. I have an 05 Rx-8 that I adore and the Rotary engine is really what got me thinking about being a mechanic.
From an engineering perspective I find them fascinating... wouldn't know the first thing about working on one tho. LOL I believe #humblemechanic has a video or two on how to get started in the automotive technician field.
Dude VW needs to hire you to work with Leon to make install videos for the VW cup. That was a great video. Nice work. I wish I had this in my MK4 R when I had it.
Hey Charles. I have a problem with my mk4 golf. When i lock or unlock the car with the remote, the right side of the blinkers stays on and every time seems harder to make them go off. Do you know where should i start locking in order to fix this problem. Thanks in advance and keep up with the awesome videos.
So, ive got a mk 3 gti. When i use either direction indicator (left turn or right turn) both flash as if my hazards are on.. i can turn on hazards while this is happening and it just blinks double fast. Also, headlights do not come on unless hi/low beam arm is held back and that also is the only time my ac/heater blows or wipers will work... Any idea what could be going on?
So I’m having a problem with my mkiv GTI. I installed some led headlights into my car and started having issues. First off I started blowing fuses first was the headlamp fuses replaced them and they were fine. Then had my cluster lights go out that fuse was replaced now it’s fine but now my blinkers keep blowing fuses. I replaced the hazard switch because they stopped working all together but now with the new switch my left blinker works with no problem but as soon as I use my right blinker the fuse pops. Also in order for my left blinker to work the hazard switch has to be on the on position. I have removed the led lights because it obviously caused the problem from the start. Any info you may be able to help me with would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long comment.
Recently I have done this on my Passat - goo.gl/AYPCC9 . I was struggling with wires pinout. I used metal paper clips, not ideal. Recommending atleast some cheap ebay wire terminal removal tool. After I figured out first wire, it went smooth :) .
Hey man, I have a Jetta tsi 2016 and the AC compressor is not getting any current so the air is not cold. I was wondering if you know which one is the AC fuse? Thanks!
I got this feature on my last car (-99 MK4 golf), but not on the car i own now (-02 MK4 Golf) and i hate it :D Got so used to it on the last 90tkm that its hard to live without
No one cares if you like the mod or not. Just thank him for the video or don't. Why does everyone today feel the need to put their 2 cents in and be heard? No. One. Cares. And your complaining is obnoxios.
If You are not able to find so my be you can help me in another way. is this module connected in paraller to electrical installation of car or maybe into in series. I hope i explain what i am talking about quite clearly :-)
How do you take off the trim on the center vents to adjust the blades? 2 of mine aren’t being held in so the dial to adjust the direction of the air isn’t working
My Citröen does that and to be honest... For the first years I thought it was a default 😂 o took a while to actually realise it is a feature and yes, it is very convenient.
I’m not into vag one bit, stumbled across this just, now. Just want to say, I’m 25 years in the trade, this guy is definitely dealer or ex dealer like myself. Absolute great video. Superb sir. Thumbs up from the UK.
I believe Charles #humblemechanic is a VAG technician by trade as his "real job" and HM is his way of sharing his love of VW's (and cars in general), knowledge and all around coolness with the "rest of us".
What depining tool you used in the video? I don't really want to buy the whole tool kit, was it AT15? And this komfort kit also works on Passat B5.5 even tho it says its fo Mk4?
Mudar para português Hello Friend Today importing a piston forged for vr6 2.8 engine is very expensive, very high dollar, and the rates of brazil is difficult, we have the piston mk3 2.0 well but account and easy to buy, do you think that adptation is good ?? in the measure 82.5 rises to 2.9, the 2.0 piston gets approx 2mm down the block, the valves gets free, maybe use a space to lower the rate for turbo... thanks.
I'm in the process of buying my first car, I live in the UK so insurance is a massacre so I can't get anythything with an engine bigger than 1.6 litres or anything that's a sports car. I was looking at the MK4 Golf and found they never made a 3dr 1.6 litre MK4 Golf, do you know why? Also do you recommend I get a 1.6 or 1.4 petrol MK4 from a mechanical perspective? The 1.6 is a bit off putting because at the same time I like and don't like the look of the 5dr version and I don't need a 5dr car. I was also looking at old MK3 Golfs and Honda Civics ED/EF and EG but hard to find in good condition without rust and not modified by a ricer, but my dad says I shouldn't get such an old car for my first car, any thought on this?
I guess that explains why my turn signals blink 3 times when I accidentally hit the bi-directional turn signal lever of my 2014 Beetle!!! Interesting.... I thought it was defective there for a moment.
Interesting - I had a 2000 Jetta which had this feature stock. It was a GLX VR6 which had all of the gadgets and gizmos (more than my 2006 Audi A3 in fact!).
Is the whole point of this so that you don't use the actual turn signal and then forget to turn it off? I'm not really seeing the point. Is it more of a VW thing?
its so that you can just tap it once to change lanes that way you don't have to fully activate the turn signal. Its not just a VW thing almost all newer cars have it. It is a nice feature to have. My B5 S4 does not have it an I wish it did but my Atlas does and its nice.
Question Mr.humble Mech, are head bolts the only ones to change when getting into a head gasket fix? (Appart from damaged ones along the way) Are the valve cover bolts fine, or the cam. caps studs? Also would it be good idea to change valve springs or is that just dependant on condition? 200k 3.6 b6 passat
Hi, do you know which wire does what behind the hazard switch? I got something similar but doesn't have an additional harness so I have to figure out which wire goes where!
Thanks for the video Humble. It's a nice feature and my wife's cx5 has it (3blinks) but my GTI doesn't; however I'm a 4 blink guy and just use my finger to control the blinks...too bad the relay isn't programmable/adjustable or comes in different blink options. Have a great vw day. Cheers.
I have this feature in B6 from factory and I would actually prefer not having this feature. It makes making one blink signal very hard which is sometimes used here in Finland to signal the driver behind that it would be a good place to overtake. I think it can be adjusted with VCDS if you have it.
I noticed you don't have a video on bmw indicators. Oh, that's right bmw drivers don't know where or what the indicators are! Tut, silly me :) Actually I wanted to try this a few times but pondered if let's say a mk5 relay would just pop in but I seen this is quite messy although yes. Effective. By the way. You could just pop out the fake buttons and pop out the hazards without taking the entire engine out. Just slightly less room but much easier!
This was amazing, thank you. I have a 2004 totally custom GTI 1.8t. It has been sitting in storage most of its life. I recently started driving it again and miss this feature. I found the kit on Black Forest Industries and found your video. I can’t wait to do this mod in order to have the three blinks.
Your a dam mind reader I was in s Driving my 02 jetta like yesterday and had thought the first time I seen blinkers do this and was like how could I do this to my car I am a believer in ware and tear on the cam switch. It just sounds horable like a stick braking
Thanks for this video. I've been trying to follow their directions for doing this on a MKIV Jetta TDI with no success. I figured I was missing a connector. I'll take another look now, maybe I'm not.
Thank you so much for your videos! Im working on a mk4 Jetta (or Bora as they are here) and just did this mod myself. Couldn't make head nor tail of the manual that came with the loom but your video made it so easy to do!! Cheers from the other side of the pond!!
I did this a few years ago when I had my MK4 TDI wagon. One wire wouldn’t release from the connector block and I ended up cutting and soldering it. It worked but looked a bit of a mess. Thankfully it was tucked behind the dash.
Thanks mr humble. U saved me. I got the retrofit kit. Depinned the wires and then thats it. There was no guide on what to do with the depinned wires. This guide sorted that part for me. Ur a SUPAstar. Keep it up brother.
did this according to the instructions to my euro mk4 and now i have no blinkers and when the hazard switch is pressed the right blinker is always on 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
hey! i'm trying to add some mods to my vw bora 2008 (brazil), and i one day wondered if it's possible to add this comfort feature and a sound relay? i mean, that type of relay that beeps instead of tick-tick, hahah got it? another thing i'm trying to do is to install the cruise control on this very same car... but i couldn't find the correct wires on my ECU plug to insert the new wires in... any suggestions?
@HumbleMechanic you are right its a stupid thing to have, you can just hold the leaver down and turn, or if you are a bright guy you use the OBD2 to acess the ECU and change it eletronic to do that wihthout all of that trouble
@@HumbleMechanic yea, i thought as much tbh, but still 3 flashes its not enough to be safe to change lane, you can just press the leaver a bit and it will turn on the indicator and turn it off when you let go the leaver, but its opinions i guess ✌
Any idea on how to get the rear amber turn signals to work on a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan? I recently installed some row led taillights for it and it sucks that they don't work properly.
HumbleMechanic I believe so. I'd be willing to pay if you could figure it out. My local guy is stumped. I'd like to have full brake lights and the amber turn signals working properly. Currently only the outer red leds light up upon braking and the amber turn signals just remain lit constantly no blinking or anything so we left them disconnected. I believe the full brake light can be coded using OBDeleven. But no idea about how to get the amber turn signals to work properly.
Always learning tricks of the trade, that was some handy work with the seam ripper. Ida never thought to use one of those for opening up a harness. Love it!
I have to admit, this is one "feature" in my car that I disabled. In some situations, 3 flashes just isn't enough to complete the lane change...but sometimes, 5 is too much (I can select 3, 5 or 7 for some reason.) Whatever happened to just cancelling the flasher after changing lanes? It's not that hard. Or simply applying a little pressure with your pinkie to activate it as long as you want without clicking it fully into the "on" position? More often than not, I find this feature to be either unnecessary or more trouble than it's worth...assuming you want to actually indicate throughout the lane change, instead of having it turn off when you're halfway through.
I think some states require you to have the turn signal flashing for the entire duration of the lane change, turn. I believe this will make the car fall out of compliance in those states
As far as I know, that's the rule in most places, if not everywhere. I was taught it should go on at least 30 yards before actually turning or changing lanes...and not turn off until the maneuver was completed. I figure a flash or two _before_ I start changing, so I'm actually warning people of what is going to happen, rather than doing it as it happens (I figure by that time, they can see that I'm in the middle of a lane change.) But people are lazy these days and you're lucky if you get a flash or two when they're already halfway into your lane. Or the flasher goes off before they actually cross the line and you're not sure if they've changed their minds or are still going to continue changing lanes. Either way, it kinda defeats the point of warning other traffic before it happens.
True...but isn't tech supposed to make things easier or more efficient? Granted, it's a small thing - but what's the point of paying extra so that you can do twice as much? It still seems this new "feature" is more complex, more expensive, is equally or more prone to misuse...and has no real upside to it that I can see.
aussiebloke609 I don't really like It on my MK7 GTI because I'll accidentally tap it and the signal comes on. Out of habit I click it the other way and go others on the road I look like I have no clue what's happening haha.
this is on my to-do list! the way i hold the steering wheel on my TT my arm blocks my view of the blinker light, so i forget to turn it off occasionally
This is an EASY MOD to make. It was all I could do to not make a BMW joke in the video HAHA.. Thanks for watching. Here are the links to everything I used in the video:

HumbleMechanic Hey Charles, you made a typo in the description. You put "BWM" instead of "BMW". Haha, no turn signals, nice one by the way!
UK style signalling... All wrong side
HumbleMechanic any chance they make this for the mk4 beetle?
Adam Socolofsky it will, pin layout is different though
On my planet we don't use turn signals. Lane changing is done by mental telepathy.
Nice
you must be from Miami.
You don't happen to drive a BMW do you?
'17 Jetta SEL
My car already has this but I still felt the need to watch.
THANK YOU!
Good video for showing how to de-pin a connector. If you like the mod or not there is good info here. BTW, MK6 Jetta blinks 4 times and I love that feature.

I had no idea OEMs made mods like that after the fact! Or was that an option on one of the packages from that generation? That I'm familiar with being a thing that can be put in like this with factory finish results.
pretty cool huh
Indeed! I'll have to check to see if any of my vehicles have similar perks available.

100% agree
Comfort blinker is standard today. It's really annoying driving an older vehicle and not having it.
1st world problems i know 🤣

It was awesome if you make a smaller video for the passat wiring ;)
I just might. I actually have to order another kit for another car :)
A special tool to remove the radio? Germans are crazy. I can say that because I'm married to one. :)
Plenty of OEMs did this. My Ford truck needed them too. :(
Something I didn't know, thanks.

#wyattoneable You want crazy? Try being married to an IRISH GIRL from NEW YORK who grew up in a family full of cops and firemen...
My F150 stock stereo needed em too yo :(
Excellent 👍 Do you know if this works with led bulbs as well?
I never liked this feauture much on my Evolution X!

Watch this 0.25 speed. 😀
With all the wires pull out of the connectors should we disconnect the battery first?
Nah. Nothing will function with the relay out. Even the radio out is fine.

It's not really my cup of tea. But there is a niche for it 100%!
HumbleMechanic definitely. Depends on taste I guess lol a lot of people see them as unreliable but won't put in the effort for maintaining the engine
From an engineering perspective I find them fascinating... wouldn't know the first thing about working on one tho. LOL
I believe #humblemechanic has a video or two on how to get started in the automotive technician field.
Once again great video Charles. I was hoping you were going to tackle the heater core on the R!
Thanks man.. Not ready to that one just yet... AGAIN HAHAHA
I can do the MK4 easier than the MK3. But it's all good.
Will this modification allow the use of LED turn signal lamps and avoid the hyper-flash? Or will it allow the use of another flasher that will?
Dude VW needs to hire you to work with Leon to make install videos for the VW cup. That was a great video. Nice work. I wish I had this in my MK4 R when I had it.
HAHA, Thanks! I actually got a call about it from a company bidding on it.
I am not surprised. You would be great at it.
Thanks. Sadly it never went anywhere. I think it's VW legal that is being silly.
bummer. That sounds like them. Just keep doing what your doing and ill keep directing techs to your videos.

On the internet i can not find the manual, only nagging people who talk about it.
Thank you so much for saving me so much time!!

Will this work on a 2002 new beetle as it’s basically a mk4 golf?
It is pretty stupid to spend money on, my GMC 1500 comes with it factory as every vehicle should
If You are not able to find so my be you can help me in another way. is this module connected in paraller to electrical installation of car or maybe into in series. I hope i explain what i am talking about quite clearly :-)
I would have brought the Relay to the Relay Box for convenience if troubleshooting is ever needed.
Do you know where the relay is for the hazards/turn signals on 2014 Jetta?
Hi I have a question - I have an audi A3 and someone turned off my comfort signal - is there a way to re-program that feature?
VCDS has this option build in. (Comfort Blinking) Number 9 / Number 31. Write "1" to "5" for the amount of comfort blinks you desire and you are done.
I dont think that works on the older cars like MK4/B5 though
How do you take off the trim on the center vents to adjust the blades? 2 of mine aren’t being held in so the dial to adjust the direction of the air isn’t working

Love that feature. Any chance that will work on a 97 Eurovan? Or up to a 2003 Eurovan?
Oh good question. I’m not sure

Hey man what do u think about do a ecu tuning to a vw golf 4 r32/v6? Something u would recommend?
I’m probably going with UM tune
Does this comfort relay system once installed allow you to use LED turn signal bulbs and not get hyperflash ??
You will still need the proper LEDs with resistors in them
Is this available for Peugeot
I guess that explains why my turn signals blink 3 times when I accidentally hit the bi-directional turn signal lever of my 2014 Beetle!!! Interesting.... I thought it was defective there for a moment.
Hi. Can you put or give a wiring diagram of this harnes. I have got ony flash relay without wiring harnes and connectors.
Not sure if I kept the book or not. Let me see if I can find it.
Vw yoda
Is it possible to increase the flash time
Would there be a adjusting pot inside the relay or a code on vcds
Or is it you get what ya get
This one is you get what you get. Mk5/B6 up you can change the number but not the interval time
Interesting - I had a 2000 Jetta which had this feature stock.
Tut, silly me :)
Actually I wanted to try this a few times but pondered if let's say a mk5 relay would just pop in but I seen this is quite messy although yes. Effective.
Your a dam mind reader I was in s
Driving my 02 jetta like yesterday and had thought the first time I seen blinkers do this and was like how could I do this to my car I am a believer in ware and tear on the cam switch. It just sounds horable like a stick braking
Thanks for this video. I've been trying to follow their directions for doing this on a MKIV Jetta TDI with no success. I figured I was missing a connector. I'll take another look now, maybe I'm not.
Interesting, brown wires are ground, same in Mercedes. Are they also marked "W" points in the electrical diagrams?
On a stock MK4, you only need to remove the radio to install the relay, that's it, you don't need to remove the panels or the glove box.
Thank you so much for your videos! Im working on a mk4 Jetta (or Bora as they are here) and just did this mod myself. Couldn't make head nor tail of the manual that came with the loom but your video made it so easy to do!! Cheers from the other side of the pond!!
These cars have blinker! What?! Wow, i wondered what that was for. Who knew?
You’re thinking of BMWs 😂😂
My b6 a4 (2003) has this, I was suprised! My former mk6 Jetta had it and I didn't think the Audi would. Love it!
Is there a way of removing this? My 2008 comes standard with this and i hate it.
You can code it off
did this according to the instructions to my euro mk4 and now i have no blinkers and when the hazard switch is pressed the right blinker is always on
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
nevermind
i had the two black and white wires installed backwards
switched them and works perfectly
Glad you got it figured out. I think that happen to me when I did my Passat!
hey! i'm trying to add some mods to my vw bora 2008 (brazil), and i one day wondered if it's possible to add this comfort feature and a sound relay? i mean, that type of relay that beeps instead of tick-tick, hahah got it?
another thing i'm trying to do is to install the cruise control on this very same car... but i couldn't find the correct wires on my ECU plug to insert the new wires in... any suggestions?
Most cruise systems I’ve seen added were not from vw.
is there a universal version?
@HumbleMechanic you are right its a stupid thing to have, you can just hold the leaver down and turn, or if you are a bright guy you use the OBD2 to acess the ECU and change it eletronic to do that wihthout all of that trouble
You’re not going to recode this one that way. It’s too old
@@HumbleMechanic yea, i thought as much tbh, but still 3 flashes its not enough to be safe to change lane, you can just press the leaver a bit and it will turn on the indicator and turn it off when you let go the leaver, but its opinions i guess ✌
Afert this mod to my seat leon mk1 then I turn on and off hazards left blinker blinks 3 times, is there any solution?
are you going to be doing a video on proper procedure for installing new rear wheel bearings when installing new rotors on the mk3?
Any idea on how to get the rear amber turn signals to work on a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan? I recently installed some row led taillights for it and it sucks that they don't work properly.
Maybe a coding issue?
HumbleMechanic I believe so. I'd be willing to pay if you could figure it out. My local guy is stumped. I'd like to have full brake lights and the amber turn signals working properly. Currently only the outer red leds light up upon braking and the amber turn signals just remain lit constantly no blinking or anything so we left them disconnected. I believe the full brake light can be coded using OBDeleven. But no idea about how to get the amber turn signals to work properly.
What's your input for upgrade the brakes of my Passat 2017?
Dude. Make a video about the dash. I have the same problem in my C5 A6 and i am curious how to fix it
Hei how to change turning relay to led relay? turning bulb all to led?
Use LEDs with resistors
Always learning tricks of the trade, that was some handy work with the seam ripper. Ida never thought to use one of those for opening up a harness. Love it!
Charles,
Sometimes my confort turn signals does not work on my passat 2007 do know why or have an idea ?
Thks for all the videos!!
Weak stalk maybe
do you recomend to change it?
Thks in advance!!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have had this retrofit kit sitting around for my Turbo S for about a year now. Thank you ☺👍
It does matter, don-t switch the black-white wires, unless you want to signal a lane change with the parking lights ...
When you worked at VW and people bought new VW's or second hand, was this something a customer could choose to have?
Yeah if they wanted it I would be happy to install it.
Sweet! I'm definitely gonna check it out for my b5.5
I plan on doing this to my corrado VR6 it’s a slightly different loom great video
that first black/white had green stripes as well, so it's already marked in a sense.
If one finds themselves in a situation where more blinks are required...flick the lever then! 🙄
Awesome guide! My wife bought me this kit for my birthday a few years ago and I love it!
Isn't this something that can just be enabled with VCDS? As well as adjusting the blink counter?
on the newer gen cars, yes! This was not module controlled. So you have to add this 3x relay
I love the three blink feature on my car, it's a cool thing to install on your R32.
Seems like 3 flashes are too short.I think 5 would be better.
My 2003 Passat had that was it something that came on the higher trim mine was a GLX
ooh thank you yoda of vag i will be having to do this if its possible on a old 2000 chassi passat .
