    Great video! I'm always scared of EQing, but you presented it so simply and demystified the whole monster! Subscribed.

    Awesomely helpful and practical. The way you describe it is just so understandable I dont even have to look through engineering keywords or playback to know what you're saying.

    Loving your videos!
    I would really like your take about spruce x cedar top guitar...for recording, mic positioning, eq and verb, since spruce sounds so diferent from cedar

    One of the best videos I’ve seen on EQing classical guitar. Thanks for putting this together! Will be checking out more of your content. 👍

    Love your channel Colin.
    I'm not a fan of sweep-eq. While I appreciate there are times when stuff needs to be fixed, most of the time I don't see the point of looking for things to be offensive unless something sounds horrible. I think the first 6 mins of this video here sums it all up in a humorous way ua-cam.com/video/OJHSduz_088/v-deo.html
    Keep up the good work and may the subs keep on coming!

      Thanks!! I’ve seen that, and as long as you don’t over do it or get super obsessive it’s fine. The problem is that if you’re EQing tracks recorded in an ideal space, sweeping for eq isn’t really needed but if you record in a tiny bedroom there are certainly some issues to be corrected for. And it’s not something I’d do for every instrument in a 50 track mix but if you’re recording solo guitar it just takes half a second 😅

      @@colindeibertmusic Would using dynamic EQ avoid some of the downside by only cutting the problem frequencies when they get too loud?

    • @colindeibertmusic
      @colindeibertmusic  3 роки тому

      @@boblong6919 It would! I use dynamic eq quite a bit but I realize most people don't actually have access to dynamic eqs in their daws. Normal eq's seem to do the trick as long as you don't go crazy with them, and I always use them to roll off the sub low end anyway.

      You're welcome! Just keep at it! It really takes a bit of time to develop the ear for mixing techniques.

    All monitors and headphones are biased, correct? For example an ATH M50x is boomier than a Sennheisser HD 280 Pro. If their response curves are as per the Harman response curve (variants) which are boosted at low ends and high ends, then cutting lows and highs in your EQ just compensates for that, while the mids require little.

    Great video! do you use the low cut filter on the mic (-80db). Do you recommend using the filter on the mic or from the DAW ? Thank you

    Can I ask you what reverb is used in this recording? and which other processes are being applied? :)

    • @colindeibertmusic
      @colindeibertmusic  4 місяці тому +1

      You’re welcome! The reverb I use is actually an old Waves Plugin, the IR-1. Specifically a reverb captured from Trinity Church. However, you don’t really need that specific plugin but just get an IR or Impulse Response file and a plugin to load it. I have another reverb video where I go into a bit more detail but I’ll try to make a new updated one soon! Basically the IRs are captures from real spaces and not a synthetic digital reverb so it sounds much more natural than just slapping a reverb plugin on the track. Hope that helps!

      @@colindeibertmusic Amazing! Thanks a lot.
      Currently using FabFilter's Reverb and Little Plate from Soundtoys, this reverb you use sounds really organic tho. !
      Thanks for sharing the technique :)

    Can you make any suggestions for recording the heavy rasqueado strums of the Flamenco guitar styles?

    • @colindeibertmusic
      @colindeibertmusic  4 місяці тому +1

      It depends on the recording and instrumentation. Solo flamenco guitar, I would eq it much like a classical guitar. In a mix with Cajon, palmas and maybe a bass I’d eq out a little more of the low end so it doesn’t get too muddy. I hope that helps!

    • @gilrosado_media
      @gilrosado_media 4 місяці тому

      @@colindeibertmusic I play solo flamenco guitar a bit and I have a lot of percussive "golpe" technical stuff as well. It gets a bit muddy in recordings maybe because I have to EQ out the lower frequencies in some cases or else mic it differently.

    • @colindeibertmusic
      @colindeibertmusic  4 місяці тому +1

      @gilrosado_media For sure! Something else you can try is to do a narrow dip around the frequency of the golpe to keep it under control. You might also try some creative light compression to balance out the levels a bit so it’s not too dynamic.
