A great version, hard to take an upbeat song and turn up the upbeat but you nailed it. This song and your left hand really reminded me of watching Glen Campbell back in the 60's ... there weren't many guitarists then or for that matter now with that kind of four digit dexterity and seeing Glen changed my approach to getting that "pinky" involved. Beautifully played as always Martin.
Hi Martin,Don here from Hamilton NZ saying that was great, Iv'e been playing for 50 years + and I still don't have a pick style as good as that, well done
@@tallstrom Sorry, but you’re wrong. Moved here when I was 19. That was 44 years ago. I’ve heard them all and played with many. You are crazy gifted and doing things I’ve never seen anyone else do, Chet was a friend. Jerry was a friend. Steve Wariner is a friend. John Knowles is a friend. I know what I’m talking about.
Haha - this one NEVER ceases to amaze me, hoss! Martin, yours is the ABSOLUTE BEST "Freight Train" arrangement... I'll post a vid when I get it down good enough- in a couple years! 🤣 No, I've really been working on this one lately, & that intro - & just the whole thing really, is somethin' Reed would've loved! P.S. - & you make it look so easy!
Super super cool my cousin told me to watch this as I am battling to play and use a thumb pick in general that was amazing cheers from Ireland my man !! Brian
Simply great. I've been trying for an hour to get my guitar to make that harmonica sound from the end of the song but I just can't quite get that lick down! Thanks, John Gig Harbor, WA
Wow, great. This is one of my very first fingerpicking songs that I played. But your version ist much more komplex and sounds much more better than mine. Thank you for this . I think I have to customize my version . NObbi
Ciao there, i love this version, and even though i know it will take me ages to learn it id like to ask you the tab, any chance to get them?!. Ciao e grazie!
I smile every time I hear you play this Martin great arrangement and playing as always! I'm working on your rag tune at the moment. I've learned Chet Chat love the groove on that one. Thanks for such great guitar music!
Me too 😁👍 I´ve just commented on this video and then I see I´m not the only one trying to learn this haha. Did you learn it H P Petersen? I must admit I gave up :D
Ahh, one more of those new arrangements of yours, this is so unique and utterly delightful, and pliiiis tell what keyboard you played so softly in the background!
Sir, this is wonderful. may i use this as backing music in a short paragliding video i am making? i will link back to your video in the description. many thanks in advance. Kind regards
I actually bought your tabs for this song @Martin Tallstrom :D It was the first video I ever saw on your channel 👌 (Or maybe it was the one you play on the Spanish guitar, now I think about it haha). Never learned to play it though. I guess I don't have the patience required to get to that level 🤷♂😂
Nice one Martin... exceptional as per usual - cheers for re-posting this one. So, how’s the bit at the very end done - one from the secret archive of techniques, no doubt... lol. Keep ‘em comin’... K.
Super super good. So calm, cool and collected. And very technical and sounds great too. Was wondering why you used the capo. ? Sorry if you have addressed this elsewhere. I will check out your website. Thanks.
Hi are the tabs that you sell for this song the exact arrangement that is being played over here? Secondly are the tabs with or without the capo? thanks
Yes, they are for this arrangement! Tabs are without capo (or you can see the capo as the 0 (zero) reference fret, like the nut). The capo only changes the key, you would still play it the same way, so to speak. Cheers/ Martin
If you like you could order the tablature from Martin's homepage just like I did and learn it from there. It's a very good and accurate tablature. I've learned the whole song by that and listening very carefully how he played. Good luck, mister!👍
I hear ya! I actually couldn´t do it either at first, but I kept trying and one day I could! So, keep trying. It´s more down to technique than one might think.
...still one of the very best finger style on UT!!!
Good Lord! I've been at it for over sixty years and can't play that. FANTASTIC!!!!! Shalom/gw
So glad you reposted this. SCARY GOOD. This has got to be one of the best renditions anywhere. Has TE seen it? Everyone should!
The old one was great. This one is even better! Love that train whistle harmonic at the end of the end of the end of the line!
Thanks, yeah, this one almost never ends :)
@@tallstrom That's always been half the fun of it for me!
Best arrangement EVER. Wonderful!!!!
this is one of the best acoustic performances i've ever seen. you're a legend sir. never seen anyone play like this. i'm floored
not a hater but a korean kid did this piece 13 yrs ago..i thought this was an original..not only that this guy used some sorta backing track
@@TheFirstAirbender1036 Sungha Jung used Martin's arrangement which you can find originally uploaded 15 years ago. But well spotted!
Every time I view this I see new things- so much nuance!
First comment!!!!! Good to see you Martin...
Same to you Adam! Now we´re talking flashbacks :) Hope you´re doing well!
Oh my you make it look soooo... easy! But I know how hard it is! Thanks for reposting, It is wonderful to hear from you again!
Thanks, glad to hear :)

It's an absolute pleasure to sit and watch this through and through to just admire your talent and ability. Many thanks Martin from UK
Thank you!
I love all fingerstyle picked guitars and truth be told my favorite is acoustic fingerstyle. You are the best, Martin.
Thank you so much Delores :)
Please come to Nashville and show us all how.
Hehe, well, I´ve got nothin´ on those Nashville cats! :)

Thanks Rick!
Thanks Martin, I also loved the other rendition you did on the nylon strings.

Thank you, yes, it is a fun tune to play!
Great arrangement of an even greater quality! Thanks a lot for a new life you've put in this composition, Martin :)
Two minutes of guitar bliss!
that was freakin awesome man.. so much feel and the perfect amount of stank.. nailed it
I’ve been working on freight train for quite a while now...sounds nothing like that. What a talent you have there sir. Very nice
Thanks John, just keep pickin´ :)

What a feeling ! 😘 from France, Martin.
Did you just make that guitar sound like a harmonica at the end? Amazing arrangement. You brought new life to this worn old standard.
no. it's a harmonica. would be a neat trick though
Socks Are Off and My Hair Is Back!! Great JOB!!!
Thanks Mike :)
Woohoo! This video somehow started it all for me!!
I remember! This was also kind of my first more advanced fingerpicking ideas thrown together into one piece.
Simply great. I've been trying for an hour to get my guitar to make that harmonica sound from the end of the song but I just can't quite get that lick down!
Thanks, John
Gig Harbor, WA
Thanks John! The invisible harmonica ending IS tricky, but you know what they say - it´s just sleight of hand lol
Timeless performance 🔥🔥🔥
Yippiiii Yeahhhh !! ... totally relaxing ...
Back for the 1000th time. So sick Mart 🤙

I saw this original at least 10 years ago, at least.
Brilliant!
Best version ever !

What the heck was that at the end?
A train just happened to pass at the very right moment! I swear lol

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.. I COULD SIT AN D LISTEN TO YOU FOR. HOURS
Oh, you're here. :-)
I've Spent some time on this one 😄👍🤘👌💪🎼🎵🎶
I'm envious that you can pick up that low F with your thumb. My thumb is too short, so I have to quickly throw in an F bar chord. Ouch!

That was cool
Hur bär du dej åt ?. Det ser ju så lätt ut.
Det är väl det där med att allt är "lätt" när man kan det... Men det var inte lätt före det! :)
🤣🤣🎸🎸awesum neat alrite 👍👍👍
Are you for real? I mean are you an AI generated super guitarist? WOW! 😊 Shalom/gw
Sjukt bra, Martin!
Man, I could hit the speed bag to that! #PunchDrumming
DAMN! Not bad. IMHO...
I couldn't play like that even if I had 5 hands
What model guitar is that please?
It´s a Loef dreadnought, see www.loefguitars.fi
Sounds a lot like Sungha Jung’s version! Nice job
Thanks! Sungha actually covered my version ☺
Fancy pants
Only way you could’ve better is if you were twins!!
Haha :)
