With the Steam Deck's supply woes, the ONEXPLAYER Mini appears to be a viable alternative...at first glance. Today I share my thoughts on the handheld gaming PC and what I believe is holding it back from being a true Steam Deck killer.

Been playing Witcher 3 on my Steam Deck on medium settings and AA on and getting a near-locked 60fps everywhere except places like Novigrad and Oxenfurt where it dips into the low 50s to high 40s. I paid less than half the cost of this OnePlayer Mini for more performance. The Steam Deck is brilliant and very much worth the wait.
Genius move by Valve. Making the Steam Deck affordable so people are more likely to buy games from Steam
depends how long you have to wait ;-) I got a very lightly sed 1xp 8.4 in i7 version for well under the cost of the high end steam deck I have on pre-order. Not sure I can ever deal with the 7in screen after this. Agreed that the MSRP on these is nuts, but so is the aftermarket pricing on the deck. New compared to New no question,(Steam Deck all day) and used compared to used, no question in the other direction. AND>>>> since you can't get a new Steam Deck the math is pretty simple.
Not at the rate that they have been sending em out, the next generation of games will be out before they fulfill the orders.
@@gottahavitvt For a luxury device, some folks appear to have patience problems. For me, I can wait as long as Valve needs me to to get better performance for better price. I'm supposed to get mine between now and September.
@@shadowtheimpure it's not about the wait it's about competition. The 6800u devices already outperform the deck. If steam can't fill their orders they will miss out on market share
The steam deck is damn near perfect the coolest handheld pc console experience with no compromise anyone can pick it up and enjoy it my opinion well worth the price and it’s totally worth the wait I can’t say anything bad about that system.
You sir are clearly not female lmao. I was talking to a friend and he said that the steam deck is not a one size fits all. I got tiny girl hands lol which is why I've been looking for an alternative. Though that same friend said wait for the 6800.
It's worth it's msrp but not worth paying resale price. My only nitpick with my steam deck is that with the recent update a couple weeks ago, my system started stuttering like crazy in game no matter which game it is and the keyboard doesn't show up sometimes.
@@bimmer8602 maybe a fresh reinstall
This sounds like such a bought comment, you can't say ANYTHING bad about it? how much were you paid to say this nonsense?
ips screen, too big, and no hall-effect joysticks, also ssd is low storage by default
When you said, in your sponsor spot, that "giving you a break from being the IT support person in your family", I chuckled. Its probably the main reason that I didn't continue down computers and tech as a career path. Out of high school, I went into University, chasing degrees in Computer Science. It really gets to you when your family just starts bugging you constantly about their computer problems just because you know, and they just assume you'll help for free, at any time, no matter what you're doing. 20 years later, I'm no where near computers and tech, and drive truck for a living. lol
My dad did that in the 90's and 2000's, was an IT guy at a big insurance company. Eventually became a Semi-Truck driver lol
There seems to be a trend here
Having tried steamos 3.0 through a community created installer it's a better experience than windows on mobile centric devices
You can use steam os on any device that supports booting into it, which today is basically anything since you can attach a USB-C hub with normal USB connectors and boot from there to install. So SteamOS is not a reason -> the device from the video can run SteamOS. I have a dual boot, but prefer windows because if setup correctly there is not much difference, and I like not having compatibility problems.
It looks nice but that price is certainly a draw back! I will keep waiting on mh reservation for the steam deck :)
Anything that sells for near enough double what the steamdeck is selling for has already lost. The performance is on par with the deck or just below in some instances. No chance out the gate.
It's so sad, people who bought devices from these companies got absolutely smacked by the same companies making their new model much cheaper and stronger the next day.
Aya neo sells their older model for 1500$, next day great news guys 6800U model stronger than steam deck 512GB SSD 699$. Onexplayer 1230$ model weaker than steam deck, AOKZOE (a sub-brand of 1xplayer) great news guys our top end model 6800U will cost around the same price but beats the previous in every way
This is just like buying an 11th gen model when the alderlake refresh will destroy it for the same or lower cost
Because they're inpatient lol
cant wait for my steam deck coming in next week! ngl when i got the email to confirm the purchase and then the shipping date email i was just exploding with excitement. Met this dude who had a steam deck a couple months ago i bought a i7 4790k off and i played on the deck a lil so the feeling of it is solid for me. honestly cant wait
I wonder if opening up steam and using the keyboard there would be better?
I've noticed that the on-screen keyboard is still a thing in Windows 10 and 11 instead of having the tablet keyboard for some reason.
It's been a while since the last video I saw from you. I can see growth and personality now. Congrats
It would be interesting to see the OneXPlayer Mini running Steam OS vs the Steam Deck.
Valve would be happy for other Companies to use Steam OS on their Devices, its just more money for them on the long run
@@redscorpion9325 steamos is free
@@spaghettiupseti9990 right, but it would encourage the people using said Steam OS to buy games from Steam.
@karim lavji there's many other sources. Rockstar, Microsoft, GOG, Epic, etc...
I got a Steam Deck before Kyle or Lyle? Whaaaa
Did your power bank have proper USB PD support? There are power banks that can charge laptops, I imagine they would charge this too.
Can you use the Original X One Player's dock as a playstand for wired controllers and Arcade sticks?
The button under the keyboard button is not a turbo button on the mini, it's the "night mode". Pressing it engages night mode that limits the fan speed as you mentioned and you can tell because the power led will start flashing purple. The larger onexplayer has a turbo button that changes the device tdp to 28w, but they did not include that on the mini. (on the larger oxp the night mode button is on the back)
I preordered my steam deck on a whim and now today actually playing on it, I have no regrets and glad I did it. These other consoles are dope too but the price just doesn't compete and steam support is likely going to better over time.
I reserved mine too just because, not really wanting it but once actual real reviews came out I was sold.
Awesome to see new content from you Bro!!!
Watching this really hits home just what an amazing accomplishment Valve has achieved with the Steam Deck. The worst possible thing someone could do is install Windows on their Steam Deck. Just watching you have tediously interact with a desktop and use a separate bluetooth controller is just painful. The Deck natively supports all the emulators and they all work perfectly. So long as you use emudeck to configure your emulation, all your emulated games just appear in your library like regular steam games and once that initial setup is complete you basically never have to use the desktop again.
I agree. I wish using only SteamOS was perfect but some games can't be played on the Deck specifically due to anticheat systems :(
Just be a little patient for games that don't work yet. Older games that use dos didn't work at launch, but they are starting to work a lot better today.
awesome to see Kyle getting into more Niche parts of the PC space! Love you bro keep up the good stuff (and try not to kill another mobo lmao)
Is it possible to replace a better screen that supports HDR and enable it in games?
How do you play games on here from app store ?
I am looking for OneXPlayer 1S part T08_TF FP_FPC to repair my OneXPlayer 1S...Do you know where can i find it? It's the Fexible Cable FPC
Do you get better performance in games when it’s plugged in?
This mini pc can play full rip 4k movies ?? I ask because the steam deck can and this mini pc seems to be more powerful or Im wrong??
No one can match steam deck specs/price . Valve moving mad 👌🏾 best piece of technology I've seen in years
Your banking on the native games on steam deck. Any steam games will flawlessly run on the deck. But, try emulating games, thats where the deck will fail miserably.
The deck is priced lower compare to the competion because they will get their money back from you when you buy games from steam.
@@israelmendoza5262 what makes you say that ? Word out here is steam deck is a emulator MONSTER.
Can you use geforce now on it and if yes then how does it run?
Can you replace the sticks?
I ordered my 256BG, but it is still in the shipping box, can't decide if I want to keep it, flip it, or return it...
On the Nintendo switch I have played some games that use so much power that when plugged into a power source the percentage will still go down while playing it and it's sad that you're not allowed to do that.
When I say the percentage still goes down I mean slower than it would if you didn't have it plugged in. Someone said that the steam deck does allow you to use power sources that are too weak to actually charge it which is a good thing.
So you cant use the native controls when emulating? Thats disappointing... Is there a way to make it work?
Can anyone tell me why my 6700xt is only using 160 watts when I play games?
Hey man not sure if you can help me or not but I'm looking for a pc that do anything at around $1600 to $1700 along with a 27' monitor that could work with that. The overall budget for the pc and monitor is $2000. If you could take the time to help me out then that would be great but if not I understand and thank you for reading
Steam deck button layout kills me, are the track pads necessary or even useful? That's a big one for me
Purchased my Steam Deck today. Can't wait for it to get here.
What is the game in 14:53?
nice to see something new but would like to see something about VR as the VR space is really expanding
Would love to see someone using like a windows mixed Or Quest 2 to see how it works with a few VR titles
I would love to see the OneXPlayer mini with the Ryzen 7 6800U, though it would a while before they update it, IF they decided to update it. Really like the form factor
Isn't the new aokzoe a onexplayer company and their 6800u devices supposedly ships in September
@@dreamspear2159 Yes onexplayer is literally making their customers orders obsolete days after they bought it. The aokzoe is a 6800U and from their 50%off giveaway the highest end model is the same cost as the onexplayer
5800u?
I don't ask this rudely, but isn't the 6800U version that's now available a better option, and more importantly thunderbolt compatible?
does this play palworld?
Get well soon!!
ur mic sounds different kyle. whys that?
I'm sure you can use a higher wattage battery bank. I got one for my steam deck works great.
I like this type of tech. Interesting in how cool little devices get in the future 😀🤙
My first cop was the onexplayer... it was very hefty and after a while my wrists started aching a bit because of the weight... I then copped a Aya neo... it was slightly smaller but the weight wasn't too much different.. battery life on both of them suck really bad... then my wife copped me a Ayn odin pro, which was cool... great battery life nice UI but the screen is a bit small so playing without squinting was very hard. also in order to play my PS plus games I had to install the duel boot for android and windows... but its only the 32 bit version so some games won't even play on the windows side. Then I finally received my steam deck after reserving it july 21' (damn near a whole year later) and I must say i have not put it down since its arrival... i've just beat RE4 for the first time on the deck and i've went ahead and beat it 3 more times because of how good the steam deck is. its light the battery life is very good and you can play xbox game pass and ps plus on there of course along with your steam games easily... Perfect console for me.
I just got my order email So excited to get my steam deck
Kyle you should have waited for the next gen versions which are coming out they have more power are not as cheap but getting close to matching and have the option of all windows games. The aya neo 2 is around the corner and the gpd win max 2 on indegogo today. Not a fair comparison IMO.
Glad to see u again
i do0nt think any handheld has a mute button?
Love the videos
I got the bigger one with integrated Intel IrisXe Graphics, an i7 1195g7...and a 2560×1600 Display. Not bad!
can i charge and play?
You had to go to the hardware store for screwdriver? You didn't have a Swiss Army knife that hopefully has a Philips screwdriver?
I‘d like the earphone jack is on the bottom side, 'cos the wire will be heated if it goes from top to bottom, otherwise it might overlay the screen.
They reduced the resolution to 800p? It use to be 1200p
VR on this thing would be sick
If the keyboard is Microsoft's official touchscreen keyboard, there's a way to have it set up as a split so you can more easily reach things. I forget how to access the setting as I haven't used it in a long time
Ive had one since launch the 5800u version, as I still wait for my Steam Deck. My favorite thing is actually streaming from my Pc when at home and when I do that I get max graphics settings and the battery last up to 6 hrs. Also I like locking FPS in the AMD video software to maximize battery life.
So do you have both onex and steam deck now ? If so which one is better ?
@@conejo013 the steam deck is better but it might be closer if steam os can be installed on the onexplayer.
love the videos
Bought a 1 TB 2230 nvme and installed it in my 256GB steam deck. After reinstalling SteamOS I have 938GB usable internal storage plus my micro SD card. Steam deck is awesome, but the storage is definitely the limiting factor with even the highest end retail unit only going up to 512GB. The best move is buying a 399 64 gig steam deck and buying a 30 dollar 256gb 2230 nvme or a 70-90 dollar 512gb nvme in combination with a microSD card. I went with 1TB because I just wanted to have all that internal storage and never have to worry about if I have to delete games to make room for new ones. SteamOS is just much better on a handheld than windows imo.
Yep that's what I did. Got the 64gb steam deck, put in a 512gb SSD and 1tb sd card for about the same price as the 512gb steam deck.
With that, I have no worries of having to deal with storage
@@dcon1891 especially with how cheap sd cards are. I got a 512gb samsung select evo microSD card for 59 bucks a month ago and I already see it on sale for ~55 dollars now. Even 1 TB cards are as low as 135 bucks. But the 512gb gives me like 470-480 of usable storage. I keep games that dont benefit from super fast loading on the sd card and keep larger games on the internal storage. For example I bought ff7 remake during the steam sale and its 94 gigabytes which is huge. I have that on internal storage because although the microSD card is more than fast enough that load times are still pretty quick, i would rather save that extra 4-10 seconds per loading screen now that I have the internal space. Lastly, 1 TB 2230 nvme drives are exponentially more expensive than smaller 2230 because they have to use a single 1TB nand chip which are expensive to make. So my drive I had to buy on eBay and shipped from china cost 165 bucks. But its a Western Digital SN530 which is a reputable SSD I have seen reviews for. It also arrived in literally mint condition. Was totally worth the slightly inflated price just to never have to deal with storage again. My next upgrade will be a 1TB microSD if they ever fall below 100 bucks, or a 1.5TB microSD that were just announced. But that shouldn’t be for a long time. Worst case I have faster internet and can download games at 50-70 MegaBytes per second over wifi on my deck, so even the 94gb of final fantasy took less than 40 minutes.
Honestly did the same, bought the one with soldered memory 64gb.want to Install a 1tb m.2 for games that use fast speeds and a 1tb micro SD card for everything else like older games and such
@@VengeanceLN it isn't soldered. It's an emmc on an m.2 card in the nvme slot
@@Droogie128 ok cool so I'll just upgrade it then whenever the hell it gets here, ordered that thing forever ago
i want to preorder the aokzoe a1 when it releases because it is a beast handheld but its out of my budget. but the aya neo air isnt
This needs an app that allows you to lower tsp to 15 watts. The default tdp of the OXP is around 20 watts. Lowering the tdp could help to squeeze a little more playtime out of the battery.
this is very cool steam deck it,s amazing what such a small device can do.
Love mine. Picked it up on sale for $600 and it has been an awesome other option.
Just wait for the steam deck. I've officially listed all my gaming laptops. The steam deck is worth it. It's a learning curb but worth every penny
Chrome does this any ways, go into settings, Auto-Fill then "passwords" - if there' san issue, it'll have a red warning symbol and say "Check passwords" - and tell below, you how many are compromised..
ya know i think were just on this side of a computer revolution i think in five years things are going to be so cool like when we switched from CRT's to HD and/or from tape to DVD like are phones will be all the pc we need we will just have screens and keyboards and tvs and gamespads just set up for us to plug in to so will always just have one device for everything where we don't need to make sacrifices
I mean im really interested since i mostly game in my truck nowadays but for half the prix even if it takes a bit more room i would still prefer getting a xbox series x with its far better but im in love with its concept 🤔
People don't realize that the steam OS experience is a MAJOR feature the other competitors don't have. Everything just works and works extremely well. Integration with steam is almost flawless.
AYANEO devices can run SteamOS. They even have their own OS. I'd want to avoid windows too llolol
I just got the backbone for my iPhone 13pro max and have been playing Xbox streaming on it at 4k
Don’t reject the handsome deck
if you have a battery bank with 45watt power delivery you can charge it
Steam deck worth the wait got mine q2
I'm Q3 so any day now. Fingers crossed. No way I could afford the OneXPlayer. But I do like it.
Steam Deck blew away my expectations…
It’s to the point lately I play my deck more then my gaming desktop. If you have the means, and can get your hand on one, do it!
U need a portable battery with power delivery PD and it will work
I have decided to give my wife my Steam Deck and get the ONEXPLAYER 2.
This thing has been an absolute nightmare and migraine headache since I got it weeks ago. Nowhere in any shape form or fashion is there any information available that even remotely 1/2 way enables you to do anything on this thing especially playing any type of game be it pc, cloud stream, Xbox game pass, steam, emu, or even candy crush. Any game you manage to get to run at all runs extremely slow for the 15 minutes it takes to load as you realize that the controls either don’t work, are mapped incorrectly with no possible way to remap them, and my personal favorite, the infinity load! Oh yea it will instal the game, have good mapped controls but just when it’s time to load up and play, it freezes up on the loading screen forever…. 16gb ram acts like less than 4gbs. China lake i7 is more like Hiroshima Shit Creek i-7. It freezes every time you try to do more than one thing at a time. It’s not only impossible to game on but it’s a pretty shitty pc that’s not practical enough to do any work on either. I got it for sell on eBay for 1/2 the price and still nobody else wants it. Smh
Excellent video. I'm curious how good the customer service is for a device like this. Are you covered for joycon drift? I got my steam deck last week and I am very pleased with the Steam Deck. It's really comfortable to use, unlike the Switch which can give me hand cramp after long periods of playtime.
I want the steam deck so I can play mainly beat em up games like the new TMNT game
I am playing this on my 8.4in onexplayer right now. It is AWESOME game and plays fantastic on this handheld
I'm stuck too many hours in Hades on my steam deck right now
I got the 5800 OneXPlayer and I was going to get the 6800 for my son but I have found that half of my games will not launch on my OneXPlayer so I will pass. I am not sure if it's windows 11 causing the issue or not but I have not been able to find a solution for this issue even with all the forums and solution videos out there about this issue. I can't recommend OneXPlayer until this issue is resolved. I bought a Steam Deck to be able to launch some of my games with issue and I have to use my gaming laptop for the one that neither can handle. I kept my laptop on Windows 10 because I don't trust upgrading and having an issue. All these handhelds are so frustrating.
Well now everyone that reserved the SD is guaranteed this year. I can't see myself using a controller without track pads like my Steam Controller. Plus the 4 back buttons.
i still don't see the point of the track pads
The keyboard that pops up on Tablet Mode is much easier to use.
I have a steam deck and I’m loving it but you get about 2 hours in most games unless it’s a indie game.
if you also have a decent gaming desktop and decent home wifi I would recommend steam link and stream your gamers. I can get like over 5 hours streaming god of war from my desktop and literally zero input lag either.
Get a power bank
All of these Chinese portables chasing that mainstream notice dream. No other reason for them to release so many of them into the market. (Isn’t there like 8 or so different Ayn devices coming out alone? Christ!) Well, it’s NEVER going to happen at the asinine prices they are charging. Valve did it right. Great performance at an amazing price. Sure, they have yet to fill all the orders but they will.
4:40. am I the only one that liked the PSP joysticks..?
wait: it is way more expensive than the steam deck, but does not even have nearly as much graphics power? why would anybody buy this?
its a big doo doo. deck can be updated too
The only tricky aspect of the steam deck is it's Linux. So if you're used to windows the steam deck will be a bit of a challenge regarding tinkering for emulators.
You have my respect and my sub for mentioning The Boys sir
I picked up a open box 1TB for $700 , installed xbox game pass for PC and PS plus for PC for most of my games and of course it has windows .So double the storage , over double the resolution for only $50 more then the 512gb steam deck = W .
Now I can return my gcloud and get $333 back and cancel my shadow pc subscription which saves me $360 a year for shadow.
Cool!

I went from 64 to 1tb SSD zero regrets the lowest storage one was the way to go in terms of price
yeah give it another year and see how much competition there will be with power and prices
Give it another year? More look at the products announced in these 2 weeks. Aya has announced atleast 10 devices it feels like, one of which the aya neo 2 geek a 6800U model with 512GB SSD for 700$ that's 50$ more than steam deck's 512GB model for a stronger cpu and gpu.
Onexplayer has a sub-brand called aokzoe opening preorders on their 6800U model 2 days from now and it will probably cost the same or lower making the device in the review obsolete
@@khaledm.1476 I know that already but the current level of performance isn't enough for me yet and the pricing is still a bit much for not really having a competent PC (by todays standards) in your hands
@@mattmab25 It's not far from a laptop which it's actual competition. Unless you want to play with your desktop pc in a bus like an actual madlad.
Portability increases price a bit. Still sure you could wait till steam deck with the phoenix Apu, I am hearing alot of good things about it
@@khaledm.1476 I actually haven't heard of that newer steam deck but I do think in about a year handhelds will meet my standards in performance
@@mattmab25 That's because it's a rumour it hasn't been announced yet. The updated steam deck would use the newer apu launching next year so by next year you might see Valve update their model within a year or two.
So that would lineup with what you'd be waiting for
New 6800u version just got announced. Should be the steam deck killer, just costs a lot more lol.
Can I get a consol plz or a pc
You'll have to wait for 6800u based products, and i suggest trying out SteamOS on whatever device you get. I was...... surprized at the performance of my steamdeck.
On paper, it should have slightly less GPU performance than the 4750GE that i use in a microPC(smaller than the Mac Mini), They both have 8 graphics cores, but the steamdeck uses RDNA2, where as the 4750GE has VEGA2. The reason i say that the steamdeck should be slightly slower is because normally RDNA1/2 is 30% faster than VEGA1/2 at the same clock speed, but the VEGA2 in the 4750GE is clocked at 2100Mhz, where as the RDNA2 in the SteamDeck is at 1600Mhz, meaning it should perform about the same as 8 VEGA1/2 compute units at 2080Mhz (1600 x 1.3 =2080Mhz)
I found that much of the performance descrepency has to do with SteamOS, I didnt think windows would have that large of a performance impact but it can, its too bad that dual booting on the steamdeck is not user friendly, as there are some games where windows is faster/more stable
I personally cant wait for the rumored 24x RDNA3 APU, sure its probably going to need 18w to get to a good performance-per-watt clock speed, but it should be more than 2x as powerful as the steamdeck at 15w.
If it were allowed to breathe, say in a laptop with 65w cooling while docked, it would be faster than an Xbox Series S, this would be amazing on a laptop, and mindblowing on a handheld, on battery it runs at 10-18w for great 1080p high gaming, on charger, docked to your TV, it could play 4K low-medium with FSR
I'm pretty sure RDNA2 would beat out anything Vega related even if it was running windows
@@acwbit2368 The vega 8 in my 5700G with 4400 RAM is markedly faster than my steamdeck, allowing me to both play in higher resolution, and slightly higher detail. with 3200 laptop ram and a 4750GE the steamdeck and Vega 8 are basically on par with a slight edge to the 4750GE
@@denvera1g1 it should be faster in cpu bound games like forza but anything gpu bound the deck wins
@@acwbit2368 IT depends on the game, because memory latency and bandwidth plays a part, also, the steamdeck is RDNA2 1.6Ghz, the Vega2 8 is 2.0Ghz the frequency closes most of the gap, the memory can make it faster
@@denvera1g1 shouldn't mean much about the clocks as a RX 5700 non XT has 36 compute units vs 56 inside the vega 56 and the RX 5700 beats it in terms of power and efficiency the fact the deck only needs 15 watts to match/beat the vega 8 shows that the RDNA2 gpu inside the deck is superior to both XE/VEGA
I'd wait for ryzen 6800u handhelds with integrated 680m graphics
You need a 65w power bank to charge the onexplayer
I think the back button is hard to reach
I finally made the choice to just cancel my reservation. I can live again.
I had them feeling too until I got my steam deck and they all went away you made a bad choice sorry to tell you
