The neck of the 60s is just perfect for my hands, the sound too. A 60s goldtop in my dreams 😊😊

If not for the neck, I prefer how the 60s sound, but hey you could swap pickups- not the neck. I’m definitely not a shredder and man! I just love how the 50s neck feel! And so went for the 50s. Nice comparison bro. Cheers!

I love this gold top. So tempted to buy one. Feel like it can get me the heavy rock I’m looking for as well as playing old school rockabilly stuff.
I’m leery of the fat neck though. Is it truly like a vintage 50s Gibson neck?

I like aspects of both models. I like the fact that the 50s has a chunkier neck but I prefer the look of the tuners on the 60s version.

I like the 50s neck but would prefer the tuners off of the Standard 60s. The Gibson Deluxe style tuners tend to break rather easily.....ask me how I know.

I always liked Les Pauls and I've got a Gibson Tribute but it's really Vivian Campbell who is making me want to buy a standard.

Honestly I prefer the Faded finish LP's... they vibrate a lot more in your hands. I don't know why, but to me it just feels like more connection to every note when you hear a faded guitar ring out as you play... doesnt have any difference in a recorded sound but I like having an instrument physically ringing out when you play it. (Partial to a 60's neck)

Many say you know you have a good electric guitar if it sounds good even when unplugged. I kinda believe that. Ironically, the best unplugged guitar i have is a fake warlock. Man, that guitar is unbelievable. Too bad the electronics are now busted.

I bought a 50’s Les Paul gold top but this guitar was absolutely the best Epiphone I have ever owned so I bought a 60’s so now I have both and it was as so good I bought a 2023 PRS SE Tremonti with the new carve and the veneer top is so horrible that I wish I could show you 🤦🏻‍♂️ but both Epiphone’s are amazing 🙂

I would advise going for a Standard, if we're talking post 2020 models. It's just a few hundred dollars more than the Classic, and you get a really solid package. Which I'm guessing also has a higher re-sale value.

    60s all day. Es-335 for blues/jazz

  •  6 місяців тому +1

Do you think is it better to buy a '60s Standard or a '50s (Humbucker version) Standard Les Paul considering that I already own a '50s Les Paul with P-90 and a SG Standard '61 ? Playing styles are mainly a lot of blues, some classic rock, some pop, some jazz... but no hard rock or heavier playing styles. I like the '61 burstbucker in my SG (and the slim neck too) and like the fat neck of my '50s P90 Les Paul ... but my fear is that the '50s Standard with burstbucker 1 & 2 will sound too close to my P-90 model... and the other fear is that the 60's sound too close to my SG... difficult choice : my need is to find the perfect complement to both my SG & my P90 Les Paul. Thanks for the help.

Hello! My advice is to go for the 50s standard with humbuckers. Especially since you mentioned you don’t play heavy. The thick neck and more creamy tone makes it a great choice for better playability and orchestration. It will definitely sound thicker than the P90s version and will be closer to fulfilling your requirements than the 60s version. On the other hand… have you considered a Firebird?

    •  5 місяців тому +1

@@loudmikedxb Thanks for the advice. No, I haven't consider a Firebird (I dislike this model) but think about an ES-339 where pickups are Classic 57' and Classic 57+ but it is an small hollow body and I prefer solid bodies.

That Blackstar HT Stage 60 amp would throw down some serious overdrive sound. Would have liked to hear it wth the 60s Paul.

It’s interesting that the 60s standard is hotter than the 50s standard but still sounds like a les Paul. On the other hand, the classic you demoed sounded very twangy in the high end. I have no doubt it has to do with wiring and coil tapping in the classic. Remember the Classic has a PCB control wiring whereas the 60s standard is just like 50s standard- regular wiring.

    • @loudmikedxb
      @loudmikedxb  Рік тому +1

True! When using high gain distortion, the Classic just screams. I do suspect it's with the wiring as well (I've had people suggest it's the weight relief!). But for less aggressive music, the Standard has a better balanced sound, I think. Thanks for watching. Please make sure to subscribe to support the channel!
