Update 6/18/2020
so after some time my problem was gone and it reappeared in a little different way. i started to see more oil leak and smoke was bigger this time. only difference this time was that there was no oil leak via my oil cap but my valve cover gasket had failed and also my oil filter housing gasket failed. i also noticed coolant contaminated my oil.
i just decided to do the job myself and recorded for anyone interested.

Yeah the old ones weren’t that bad. Mainly started issues after 2002 engines. Never buying a BMW ever again. Maybe just lease it

For my bmw anytime i step on it or just floor it gives off a burning smell and only when i step on it or go fast i dont smell it when i drive normal, could that be the clutch or something else ?

Good luck. Let us know what you find. Check if there is evidence of oil by the oil filler cap.

How did you get the oil out of the coil pockets and underneath the engine? Will look for that product to try it out. I just cleaned around the filler cap and the top and side of the engine wherever my hand fit. Any recommendations how to clean it all out?
I had to get under the car and remove the metal tray. It’s a lot of screws but take it off and clean it. That’s the only way. Also you may need to wipe the engine from underneath as much as you can.

it was my problem as well. i bent the cap metal tabs to bring back the original tension . oil drip is gone .
i heard you can also pour the at205 into the oil tank. it will seal the gaskets internally .
Ah good to know. I wouldn’t trust pouring it into oil tank.
@@HowToDoitright well just an fyi it's made for that as per their company website . it seals gaskets from the inside etc.
I did pour motor oil saver Liqui moly to my N55 x5 2012,137,000 miles old. now I don’t see oil drip in my garage and no more adding of oil to top off also I don’t smell burning oil.

I did used after market parts on my BMW 2012 x5 it’s doing find no issue at all using cheap parts😢
Just buy a new gasket from BMW - Worth it for another 100K miles
I have the same issue I gotta check this cap because everytime I run it hard it smokes really bad :( I really hope it’s not my value cover gasket, I already fixed my oil filter house gasket
LEO P this is a low chance and happen if you recently change your cap. Inspect the valve cover oil tray for evidence of oil. Watch my valve cover video. I explained how to inspect for oil leaks there. Check out my F10 playlist
It's actually very common to be the valve cover gasket.
I have a 1988 BMW 735i that is smoking from the cap but I am leaking no oil. I am thinking it may be a bad coil to one of the cylinders. The car sat for 16 years so it could be a number of things but running on 5 cylinders would cause this issue for sure.

Hello everyone one so I have a bmw 550i 2013 so every time I step on the gas pedal it leaves a white smoke from the exhaust. Someone give me ideas asap
E90 335XI Sedan 2008:
I have a white smoke (coming from down low on passenger side of engine bay) and a coolant leak. I think the coolant is leaking on something hot as it does not smell like oil. I cannot find where the smoke is exactly coming from as it is way down low, nor have I found out where coolant may be leaking from. I could use some help or an idea where the leak may be. No leak visible from looking from the top of engine bay. Thanks.

You can drain the coolant and do a smoke test and see where is the smoke coming out from. You may have to remove some stuff to get to see the bottom of smoke location.

i just went through similar issue on my 2011 550i
coolant goes to the turbos as well. under the turbos there are i believe 3 thin coolant hosed connected by a cheap plastic "T".
T hets hot and brittle after time and cracks.
On mine it was spitting coolant on the engine and it was burning off creating a white smoke.

Hi mate I have the same problem with mine but it also water cooler goes low when it's hot and when u turn of the car off and let it cool down dhe water on the cooler returns back and no oil inside. Any tips it will be much appreciated
Check your oil filter housing gasket. I bet it’s leaking. I just changed mine. See the video on my channel under F10 playlist. Also I am replacing my valve cover gasket today. I’ll post a video.

Yes no issues but get it fixed eventually it can damage your oxygen sensor as it’s close to where oil drips

Same thing is happening to me but its not the cap. I changed the cap and same issue. I also had the valve cover gasket done at BMW and it still kept giving me the same issue. Now they are telling me that it can be the oil pan. This has been a headache. Lets see what they finally tell me. Thanks for the video though.
I have a bmw f34 2015 2.0 diesel 143hp..the engine consumes 1l of oil per 1000km, I changed the turbo, checked that it does not leak and does not smoke on the exhaust, but I did not notice anything, the car has 240,000km now, do you have any advice ???
Check valve cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket for leaks. Check out my F10 playlist. I listed a video there about those leaks causing loss of oil.
@@HowToDoitright I checked everything on the car, there are no leaks anywhere, I think it's a problem with the links or valves, but I'm surprised that it doesn't smoke on the exhaust at all, everything is normal 🤔
I have the same problem on my 7 series f01 2009 3.0 diesel whit 211horse power. The smoke comme up from the underside from the engine its a light smoke and smell like sommething burning. When the car are smoking and y active my interior ventilation the smoke comme into the car via the ventilation. This smoke is not comming every day and stay maybe 10 minutes . If y directly stop the engine the smoke stop olso .
That indicates your valve cover gasket needs to be changed.

I have an issue where it’s getting very hot in short period of time when in sport or driven hard. I have the occasional light white smoke then it disappears. Is it possible that this is why?
You may have a coolant leak in your engine bay. Check out my play list of F10 on my channel. I had a case where my oil filter housing was leaking oil and inside leaking coolant and mixing with engine oil. You may want to fix it ASAP or you can cause significant damage to your engine.

Just had to replace my coolant hose because mine overheated then the hose literally fell off. Cheap fix at $300, but still a little nervous to drive

@@tammystewart10 I’ve fixed mine up. Needed a new radiator. Still drips a little bit of oil but I’ve started in the mods nevertheless. New exhaust in… sounds amazing
I'm very very disappointed from the N55 engine overall. I had already changed the valve cover gasket 5-6 times - they still tend to go bad very easily and the oil burning smell is a constant unfortunately. Second, I had to replace the valvetronic motor and the eccentric camshaft due to failure on low mileage. This tends to be a common issue with these engines. Very very disappointing...
Yeah man I got fed up and sold my car.
theres no way those were put on correctly. 5-6 times ???? gaskets need to be seated perfectly. torqued correctly. unless someone is topping oil, too much oil will create insane pressure
@@factsoverfeelings9228 Well, everything was made in the official BMW service in my country and oil changes were performed regularly. After the 6th change of the valve cover gasket (out of my pocket) they found out that the plastic valve cover itself was the issue. It was bent due to high heat?! Mind that these engines usually operate with oil temperature range of 110-120 degrees Celsius. This is just ridiculous, to be honest. And as I already mentioned - I'm very disappointed with the N55 engine.
After all, why would you put a plastic valve cover when you intend to operate the engine at higher temperatures than normal? This is pure decision by BMW.
@@volf4o darn, btw im sorry to hear that. Seems like you were def a good owner. I had a Honda S2000 and the valve cover was metal. My f10 535i has had 1 valve cover replacement... your story scares me
I have an F10 with the N55 motor. No issues. No leaks. Rock solid @56k miles.
I was told I have a crack in the engine bay but no one can find it and I changed the valve and cover multiple times and it’s the same problem and the car shuts off due to over heating now
Bro all I can suggest you is sell the damn thing. It’s a pain to troubleshoot these things. It’s a money hole. I end up selling mine and couldn’t have been any happier.

I have owned F10 5 series 2011 (n52) for the last 5 years and its been good to me.
Issue and Symptoms:
Every time I start my car it will start normally and in 5 sec after that I would hear a short hassling whistle and it would start to vibrate for 6 to 10 sec while the rpm needle would remain below 1000 and then it would pick up the RPM and stop vibrating (not completely you can feel light vibration). And driving if i step on the gas it somtimes delays in reacting and if I do stop at the light you can still feel is vibrating. I'm also getting some smell from the exhaust pipe but no smoke but its a strong scent.
regardless of if the car is cold or hot if I start the car is would act in a similar manner.
I believe it could be a vacuums issue (not sure though)

Why not just buy a new cap? It can't be that expensive.
lol 😂 it’s not the cap which caused the leak. It was the valve cover gasket. It was change but smell still comes so you have to remove the oil with this method.
100% BS don't waste your money by buying the oil engine cap. I replaced the oil engine cap in my BMW but still smell burnt smell and I'm going to the BMW service dealership next week.
Your oil filter gasket must be leaking. Change that. It’s not always the oil cap
