  • I thought the season was over when there was snowfall after my last trip, but another nice window of weather opened for me - YAY! So I just ran in for a quick two-nighter on familiar territory for one last time this season... OR IS IT??

    The Time lapse of the moon rising was awesome. Great trip, glad you did not freeze. My last trip of this year was in October, so you did better than me.

    Hey there, I'm the guy at 39:56! It was great chatting with you on the trail.
    I ended up heading back out to that area the next weekend to check out Mt. Agassiz via the Lyons Creek trail just to the south. Didn't end up scrambling all the way up to the peak, but man that area above Sylvia Lake with the two unnamed lakes below Pyramid Peak was a great find.
    Quickly becoming addicted to this place!

      Good to hear from you again. I still haven't made it up to those lakes above Sylvia - one day perhaps. Glad you are enjoying DW, it's small and crowded, but if you choose your hikes well, you can have a wonderful time AND get some solitude too. Oh... and meet some nice people too! :-)

    I'm from Sacramento too. Before I moved to the Philippines in 2017 out in Wilton we got to 18° but that's wide open horse country there. That was in late January. Damn cold.

      @@SacWildlife Highland Lake is one of my favorite destinations. I'd be happy to share with you some photos and/or route advisories.

    Man, can't wait for your next video! If both the lot by the Twin Lakes trailhead and the overflow lot back on Wrights Lake Rd are full, where can you park?

    • @SacWildlife
      @SacWildlife  3 роки тому

      There is another lot on the other side of Wrights Lake as well - the Rubicon Trailhead lot. But if the other two lots are full, this one likely would be too. If all the lots are full, you can still park along the road.

      @@SacWildlife Thanks! Supposed to head up to Hemlock and Twin next Thu, but we'll see. Fingers crossed that my annual 4-day trip doesn't literally go up in smoke. Any thoughts on backup trips?

    What type of camera do you use to film your videos?

    • @SacWildlife
      @SacWildlife  4 роки тому +1

      The last two years, I've used a Sony DSC-HX90V. It's the best compromise I've found for weight vs image for what I do. There are better cameras at this weight (about 8oz), but I HAVE TO have the long zoom (30x) for the rare wild animal sightings.

    My first time trying to go to the Desolation Wilderness any suggestions for a beginner backpacking couple trail ?

    • @SacWildlife
      @SacWildlife  4 роки тому +1

      If you two are in good shape, I'd suggest the Echo Lakes trailhead. The air is thin, but there are many, many areas to check out from that trailhead.

      SacWildlife well we don’t run 5k marathons. We just came from eastern sierras at 10390 elevation and we we uncomfortable. Anything at 8-9000 ft ? Btw I watch your vlogs very good content ! I am one of your subs

      @@etamonte0304 All of the trails out of echo lakes are below 8500' - the highest trail in DW is 9200' (dick's pass) - you'll be fine - have fun!
