*Puts this in a playlist called “obscure songs from my childhood that have been playing as background music in my head for years and for the longest time, I thought I just made it up, but then I remembered dancing to it as it was being played when I was a child, so I looked up the chorus lyrics and found this”*
I took my sons then 10 and 16 to an of Montreal show in Arizona. They're now 12 and 18 and huge oM fans. Youngest one has David Barnes' stickers all over his wall and several posters from the albums. Both have signed records and pictures with Kevin. I am the biggest fan tho, but it totally warms my heart to see them embrace the music we listen to. Can't wait for the San Diego show next week! PS. We are also HUGE STRFKR fans and have taken them to their shows too
I’ve struggled with anxiety all my life but it’s been particularly bad lately and this song makes me feel like everything will be okay. To me this song is about forgetting about your problems and finding joy in life.
Just last year I got into of Montreal. I thought I had recognized Kevin Barnes’s voice and when I first watched this video it reminded me of Yo Gaba Gaba. I then found out Barnes DID perform a song for the show! I proceeded to go down a rabbit hole and found out not only were they on the show, but bands I listened to with my mom when I was really little like The Killers, MGMT, Apples in the Stereo, Metric, and MCR. It was so great to see I’ve always been so influenced by these indie pop and rock bands!
I had no idea Metric was also on there. That show was amazing. The episode with Jack Black I still sing with my daughter out loud while we rollerblade. 😂 Happiness can come from the weirdest places.
I remember having a really scary moment during an acid trip and my friend plays this while we’re drawing out our trip. It was so fucking magical with this song playing. I oddly cherish that memory
I used to listen to this song on repeat while robotripping and it took me to a comforting world, my addiction was dark but the moments of joy I got from listening to this were so elevated and treasured Clean now and the song still hits, didn't know it was 18 years old now! Its 4 years old to me
I love this video not just because the song is so great, but also because this is an organic time capsule from the first year of youtube. Still in its original 144p, no modern update, no re-release, no new video. Just a pure happy music video from what I remember as a much happier time, perhaps seen through rose-tinted glasses.

"Let's go outback tonight, cuz life will still be there tomorrow!" Does anyone remember those commercials?? Instantly put the two together after hearing this song ^^ Same peeps!!
i remember my mom showing me this when i was 5 and said if i liked the song and everytime i need to calm down or feeling stressed i play this song and it makes me happy and think about all the good memories with my mom
When a stranger calls brought me here. Episode caller 2. Funny thing is this was one of my favourites back in the day and i totally forget about it. Good to hear it again!
This song came with an MP3 I bought a long time ago, It reminds me of the time of my first and so far only real and deep love, I wanted to hear it after all this time
santiago carreño same I looked it up awhile back and couldnt find it. then I heard it in the store the other day, looked it up and immediately found it.
playing the original DOOM late at night the other night and this song randomly pops into my head and i keep humming it the whole time. not sure why i suddenly remembered it while playing DOOM of all things, heh
I have Plastic Beach by the Gorillaz permanently attached to Elder Scrolls Morrowind because I bought them from the store at the same time. "Your rheinstone eyes are like factories far away" I hear that every time I see Morrowind.
This is such a nostalgic song for me. I used to game a lot back in the day and I had a guild member in my guild that introduced me to this song. I would randomly shout "LET'S PRETEND WE DON'T EXIST" in guild chat and he would always shout/sing "LET'S PRETEND WE'RE IN ANTARCTICA" back to me. I miss those days
I can’t believe this comment section, I had no idea this song was that old! I first heard this song a month ago... for the first time ever... anyways this is really fun to listen to while high or in my car haha
I was recently reminded of this song and couldnt figure out the name for the life of me.Luckily, from repeated listening experiences long ago slowly coming back to me over the course of an hour, I was finally able to remember the lyrics!!
one of the most amazing videos i've seen done in animation! I love it! soooo creative and goes with the song in a really great and interesting way!!! AHHH i love this song sooo much!
i bought an mp3 player 4 years ago and this song came on it i loved it since i heard it this and me and mia and like 8 others came on it way before dubstep was thought of
I haven't heard this song since it came out and my brother just played today for the first time in like 8 years, I feeeelll like a fetuuss but seriously this song is great
When i was 17 i won a dance contest at a club and got tickets to see them live! 30 years old and still shaking my ass in my skinny jeans and boots to it 13 years later. Glad some things stay the same.
Ugh, I remember watching this video on an mp3 player I used to have and for years after I've lost it I could never find this video...until now! Song still as awesome as it was when I was little~! :D
well, i'm having my first trip on LSD right now. and i'm listening to this song and watching this video. and they both complement each other spectacularly. so i'm going to stop the typing and start the watching
This has been in my world 2/3 of my life. Got to see them open for 2D Cinema Club YEARS ago and i can’t even explain how happy I was dancing around to this in person. Like. I was stepping on so many peoples feet in these white disco style platforms that had water and wait goldfish in them. If that’s not pretending you don’t exist, I don’t know what it 😂😅🎉🎉🎉

I genuinely checked your account for the playlist, that’s a title and a half.
fuck, I'm old. Maybe I'll never die, I'll just keep growing younger with you, and you'll grow younger, too.
This is a list I could use!
I just did the same thing.
Can’t believe I’m discovering this in 2024, so timeless, refreshing and that baseline is flabbergasting
I was madly obsessed with this band as a teen in 2008-10
Same dude!!! So was my lil sis
im just finding them now and they're awesome. do you have any other music reccomendations?

I put this on repeat when my dad was at a conference for a week and i alone in the house. It helped me a lot
This is such a good description of how this song makes me feel!
This song has one of the most awesome basslines I've ever heard!
I love the way he just drags it up and down like that, it sounds so good.
I agree with both of you
I Want The World To Stop by Belle and Sebastian and this song have the best indie basslines
This song was included on an MP3 player I was given as a kid in '07. still love it.
Same. It came on my Z Vue 200. Like almost 20 years ago lol. Now from time to time I have to come back to it because it gets stuck in my head 😂
shooting 2006 indie pop heroin straight into my veins with this one
was my drug of choice in 2009
im just here because of outback steakhouse
Great phrasing
Danielle Pluzsik that was a GREAT soundtrack !!
2006- one of the best years of music 🙊🙉🙈
the video's aesthetic makes me really happy in a way.. sort of reminds me of the frutiger metro style
I love aesthetics so much.
my mom showed me this music video when I was like 6 and it scared me and fascinated me at the same time....still a classic tho
yo, shoutout to your mom

The video is so dark but the song is so happy...
True
The video is dark in a happy and colorful way
Have you really looked at the video?
And I love it (I’m not ok TwT )
Replying an older comment but I disagree, the lyrics are actually dark when you know the references that are being made in them
As long as there is an Outback Steakhouse in Antarctica I'm down

"Let's go outback tonight, cuz life will still be there tomorrow!" Does anyone remember those commercials?? Instantly put the two together after hearing this song ^^ Same peeps!!
Outback actually ripped them off. There was a lawsuit I believe.
doodl3bugg13 Not ripped off, Kevin Barnes gave them the okay. www.stereogum.com/3401/of_montreal_like_steak/franchises/commercial-appeal/
Really funny to consider of Montreal suing outback after hearing Kevin actually singing “let’s go to outback tonight”
I was able to find this by Googling "Outback commercial song" because I don't know the actual song title. Unforgettable hook
The obsession I had with this song and the music video 😭
My son has loved this song and video since he was a little boy. A family favorite for sure.
Was my escape song when I was 8 I'm 23 now and I use it to escape still but in a much more positive way
‘Cured my depersonalization, pog, thanks Of Montreal

I was in grade 10 or 11 when I first saw this on Much Music in Keswick, Ontario, and it has never gotten old. Not even for a second.
Quite possibly the best song that I have ever heard of.
This is the best music video in the world.
The lyrics are genuinely awesome
How did I just discovered this masterpiece
I was born to this song
The artstyle of this video is like a combination of the superflat pop and corporate memphis aesthetics. Reminds me of a late 2000s commercial lol
This is the first song I ever heard by them. I am now obsessed
BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!
