    Hi Alderic, Indonesian viewer here. I don't know if this in time or not for you to view.
    Nasi Uduk basically have 3 types. First is the Sumatera/Melayu type. This is called nasi gemuk. This is closest to what malay/sg nasi lemak. Second is the Betawi type. The nasi uduk that you will prbably looking for. Third is the Javanese type, called nasi gurih/nasi liwet.
    All have nuance and variance but Nasi Uduk will be accompanied by Sambal Kacang and fried shallot on top of it. Even nasi uduk will have two types: dry one and the soupy one. The soupy one they called it Gorengan Betawi. Basically all the jerohan (tripes, intestines, etc) in a red thick broth. To be a fair comparison, please try the nasi uduk with the dry type.

    Three that the locals frequent; Botak Nasi Lemak, AFC Ali Nasi Lemak, Bumbung Nasi Lemak. All quite close to each other.

    I don't consider VP nasi lemak the best in flavour BUT I keep coming back because of how easy it is to line up, sit down, eat a plate and just go. The sheer efficiency to taste and value ratio is unbeatable.
    It's not the nasi lemak I'd go to treat myself, but the one I'd have once a week.

    • @infn
      @infn 8 місяців тому +3

      I agree, it's not the most delicious plate of nasi lemak that you can have. It has its limits in terms of balance of flavour with the sambal and condiments, and the rice can be a bit lacking in lemak. But they are successful because they're the most consistent nasi lemak place that we have. You can probably find a nicer nasi lemak in some random unknown stall somewhere but they won't be there everyday and the taste would probably change from time to time. While Village Park nasi lemak has been around for years, the taste of the sambal has only recently become consistent.

    I just love this establishment where they dont mess around with their food and take great care in service and hospitality. Village park sets the benchmark of what local eateries in mayalsia should be like. Another establishment is Kanbe Ramen @TRX or @Mont Kiara, where it operates the same scale like VP but dish out 9/10 food every single time. Massive respect to their crew

    There used to be an old lady whom I used to frequent for breakfast, and she used to make her sambal tumis similar to the village park. The difference is that she extended her cooking time, the colour was slightly darker than other shops, and the viscosity was thick. But the taste, masha'allah, the flavours, the fragrantness, and the heat. Not so spicy that I couldn't enjoy eating my dish. It was just right for what I consider a good sambal.

    I once saw a comment saying village park forgot to include chilli for their grab order and lodged a complaint. They were able to trace back the order with video evidence of the exact order and they did gave chilli. Something must have happened in between the delivery journey. Their operations is very impressive.

      If you're still in Indonesia go try out some ice cream from Indomaret. It's their version of 7-11 or Cheers. They have chiki ball flavour (new) and indomie flavour (from last year). Not exactly nasi uduk, but a fun side thing since you're there anyway :)

    Wow nasi uduk has entered the picture. This is serious business now man. And no the recipe for nasi uduk is not the same!
    Hope you can review Coconut Club in Singapore too!

    • @Alderic.
      @Alderic.  8 місяців тому

      Genuine question, what's the difference? I've referred to quite a few recipes online and they seem very similar.

    • @johanwijaya6100
      @johanwijaya6100 8 місяців тому

      @@Alderic. The two are overall fairly similar. Usually nasi lemak only uses coconut milk, pandan and maybe lemongrass, whereas nasi uduk also uses garlic, shallot, bay leaf and various spices (galangal, cardamom, cloves etc) depending on the restaurant. Now some places put more herbs/spices into their nasi lemak, for eg I just tried JB's Coconut Valley (thanks for the rec) and I find it's closer to nasi uduk than nasi lemak. I think you'd agree their rice tastes different than most nasi lemak you find in sg. I don't mean better or worse, I mean it's a different taste. The rest of the plate (sambal, sides etc) is usual nasi lemak though. Some things you find in a nasi uduk plate that you don't find in a nasi lemak plate are fried shallots and sliced fried egg. They're integral to the taste of nasi uduk. Nasi uduk usually doesn't have ikan bilis and peanuts.
      I grew up eating nasi uduk so I'm excited to see what you think!
