- Marvel is giving us season 2 of What If...? for the Holidays! Episode 6 is a re-imagining of the colonization of the New World, or rather what would happen if the Spaniards had not been able to conquer North America? Featuring a new super-hero Kahhori (plus a special appearance from the Supremem Strange as well!)

Idk why, this episode actually made me tear up quite a few times. Natives needed nothing short of a miracle to save themselves from the colonisers, and being a descendant of a people who were colonised, I felt really connected.
Same im lebanese and the french and British did terrible things to us which they are still proud of today. But they are soooooo liberal and tolerant these westerners aren't they.

Colonised? that nation was exterminated by the English and French,it was a genocide,the French scalped them,but Marvel makes a series or movie where the murderers are the Spaniards,what a surprise!
We weren't ultra peaceful people. It is true that we were colonized in the end but let's not pretend we didn't regularly war with each other over territory and resources.
Indigenous person here from the Diné people (navajo) this episode was absolutely beautiful. Inclusion and representation is always important but shit this episode was just so much fun. Great to have a new creative story/character/and alternate world history. An insightful what if... story for the peoples of the world to experience but just know it doesn't replace your established stories and histories.

I was actually brought to tears from this episode, because too often in tv and especially in movies do we see Native Americans portrayed only as victims who were robbed of everything, but in this world, they stood up and succeeded in defending their home. And it was thanks to a young Mohawk woman named Kahhori.
This has been my most anticipated anticipated episode of What If for the past year, and far exceeded my high expectations. I would absolutely love to see more of Kahhori. In comics, tv, and especially in movies.

This is exactly what I wanted from "What If...?" from the very beginning! This was a brilliant introduction to an original character! Kahhori was amazing! This whole episode did everything right! 10/10! I need more of this!
Be honest. Would you rather keep this episode as it is, or would you rather keep a similar plot but replace it with Wakanda and an original Black Panther. I'd rather get an actual Marvel character rather than a power fantasy OC personally.

@JoeChianelli Except the fact they have flaws which make them relatable. In Kahhori's case you could probably only relate if you're native american, but even then she is a Mary Sue, so most people wouldn't be able to in any way.
kahhori meeting the wakandans would be a interesting. They find peace pretty quick, but it be fun to see her have a friendly match with their black panther.
Damn, I thought about that too. Imagine them just portalling into Wakanda or the Wakandans showing up to the New World with their ships to aid them in battle. Two kingdoms not very fond of colonizers.

This episode is so new, organic, and uplifting; yes, it needs to be its own 2-hour movie!!! Marvel, please do more original and unseen stories like these!!! Brand new hero Kahhori eradicating stereotypes left and right!!

This was an awesome episode. It needs its own series. I felt like I was watching a dope story starring Avatar Kyoshi.

I agree, they should've made this the premiere episode for Season 2, it's not unheard of for premiere episodes to be longer than subsequent episodes, maybe even a short movie. Clone Wars comes to mind.
While it would be absolutely ideal from a story-telling perspective if there was a slow ramp-up towards mastery of her powers, this is also the same cinematic universe that JUST had Happy Hogan able to become the Hulk and beat a Hulk Smasher after merely receiving an injection. He didn't really have to earn the power. Likewise, Captain America merely had to lie down in a pod to get his superpowers, and he seemed pretty adept from the get-go. Falling into a magic lake in this story really isn't much different. (Though yeah, from a storytelling perspective, it would be more satisfying to get that slower build. Good point about how the ending might've been more exciting if she still didn't quite understand her own skillset.)
Yeah, but I don't care to see the Happy Hogan movie. I don't think anyone really does. That felt more like a joke where as this felt more important and something that could really be part of the MCU in a meaningful way.

Yep, we needed four or five times more of this. Make the movie, then multiverse her into the MCU so she can see what a gift the tesseract was for her world.

This is where the fun begins!!!! This was so refreshing for Marvel/MCU! Creating an original character! Marvel has done this before when they introduce X-23 in the X-Men: Evolution series back in 2001. I'm really curious about what Kahori's character will be like in the comics in the future! Regardless, hope you two like it!! 🙏🏽💪
I’m curious if Echo will have any lineage with her or maybe just have the story told to her in a flashback. That’s why Echo’s so fierce of a fighter, was inspired by her story. Something like that could make a great tie in

@@WinterSo1dierthey're completely different tribes. Echo is a Choctaw, my tribe. Mohawk from what is now upstate New York and Choctaw being from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. There's no cultural overlap

I think this is the proper way to do this things.
I always found weird to see people in wakanda for example speaking English the 97% of the time...
I don't usually demand anything from fiction.
But I DEMAND a live action of this character, played by maybe the girl from 'Prey'.
I agree this one feels like this story felt like it would have been even better as a 60 minute dramatic episode or 90 minute film. It just didn’t feel like quite enough time toward ramping her up to the point she became the superpower she was at the end.
But yeah, both seasons of What If so far are fantastic!
My genuine remark on this episode is this:
Visually, Instant best episode in What If for me, with 1x4 running close second.
Plotwise, i like the general plot, although i am slightly set off by the rushed learning phase of Kahhori's powers, and the ending. The ending wasnt bad, but it kinda leaned towards the "hero has trouble learning, learns, gives a speech, and goes on to win instantly, no troubles faced" trope.
But overall, still a solid episode, placeable way higher than some of the season 1 episodes. Kahhori got a good introduction.

Explanation to address Jaby's complaint... Carol Danvers clearly demonstrates that Space-stone energy is emotionally entwined in Captain Marvel.
We spent the first third of Captain Marvel with Yon-Rogg trying to keep 'Vers' emotions in check.
Kahhori's experience seems to be very similar and, as a result, accelerated without that emotional dampener.
We need more this kind of What it..? introduce new stuff and tie do MCU later
If you mean more original characters, it sort of defeats the purpose of What If stories

In a what if scenario everything is possible, they are not rules of what can and can't be a what if, specially with having every universe be different from the other. if you love what ifs involving natives: read east of west. great comic set in an alternate america where the west is ruled by asians (chinese) the american south by blacks, and the american mid west by natives with the whites to the north east. also, the main character is the death, a horsemen of the apocaplyse.
This epd was the BEST one so far! something NEW! for a change.....I'm glad they didn't make them all speak English....enjoyed every moment of this! she makes you feel so empowering! LOVED IT!

An as for your question about how does the Native People think about it, if you watch the credits a little longer it does mention that they gave Great thanks to the Mohawk Nation for helping them with this film. Spain never encountered the Mohawk. The Mohawk lived in the territories occupied by the English and French (New York and Quebec), and their story is told in the film The Last of the Mohicans. If you want to know something about the history of the Spanish and the North American Indians, it would be better to consult with Alfonso Borrego, the grandson of the famous Apache chief Geronimo or you can also consult the history of Fort Mose.
Queen Isabella of Castile died 100 years before any European colonized the lands of the Mohawk. In fact, although the castle resembles the Alcazar of Segovia, the queen resembles the portrait of Queen Elisabeth of England painted by William Segar. On the other hand, thanks to the will of Queen Isabella of Castile and the controversy of Valladolid, both the rights of the tribes were guaranteed (to the point that their chiefs became Spanish nobles) as well as their languages were grammaticalized and taught in the university.

I'm also half-Filipino, so I related to what Jaby said about the Spanish conquistadors. This was such a powerful episode, and it's gut-wrenching to think about the atrocities carried out by the conquistadors on Native American peoples.
Filipinas was conquered and colonised by people of mixed race, Indians and Creoles all born in Mexico, from Mexico the Philippine islands were administered. And the movie is,those native americans were supposed to have been annihilated by the french and english,why did marvel use spain for this movie and not the english or french? guess what,it's called propaganda.

I thought that this episode was more about the Mayan tribes! Some people believe that they did not compete the Mayan calendar because the Spaniards came along and murdered them all! This is so far the best episode to me!

It was entertaining but agree it should have been longer to fully flesh out this story. Although got her powers a bit quickly I still like her more than Rey’s development. A few these episodes could benefit for a longer run time. Still liking this season more than season one.

If i had to guess Shes probably a mutant her X gene was activated by the tesseract and its why her powers are so much stronger then the others, or her open wound gave her direct space stonw energy
Episode was cool like anime not a fan of reading subtitles but thats a small nitpick. This was interesting but felt like i needed more from it was obvious they used this to test the waters to bring in a new character and what if can be used to get characters we havent seen like ghost rider or white tiger. Like everyone has been saying i think this needed a bit longer run time or to be a film/series to flesh it out more. Now if they use this and it ties to echo than would be cool too and build echos character up. I just dont know what this is gonna do moving forward.
I had a lot of fun watching this episode and reaction. I would really like to see Marvel do more stories like this in the What If series about other cultures with different outcomes from our world. There are stories of oppression in all cultures no matter what race you are and I'd like to see all of those variant stories of what if those cultures had the ability to properly defend themselves.

Hey guys 👋🏻. Just when thought Gaia was the most powerful new character…. Marvel introduces Kahhori. And to make it more annoying for the haters, looks like she be teaming up with Captain Carter.
I think the only thing they needed to add was a point of reference for her pre power skills. Something like Prey where they show she has the abilities before she goes up against the Predator. You bring up Rey Skywalker, but they did the same with her. She had fighting skills before she was awakened. She just augmented them with the Force. All Kahhori has is determination and a sense of adventure. I guess the determination was what helped on the fail montage because it showed her using more and more branches.
I did like that they made it clear she wasn't the first who'd tried that method to get to the portal,because it shows the strength of the entire group, and not just of one person.
The truth is that Isabel de Castilla was one of the best monarchs that Spain has ever had, she literally united different kingdoms and created Spain
Yes but Marvel/Disney Insist on having a good guy/ bad guy dynamic. Doubly so of late, and damn the historical conotations...
... its actually pretty sad, because as far as new characters fo, this had potential, but this was not the way or the series in which to do so.
Spain, British, Rome, USSR etc etc were all terrible to the rest of the World.

Even the thing about Ponce de Leon and the fountain of eternal youth is a lie. It was the occult advisors to the Queen of England (like John Dee) who were obsessed with these silly legends.
This begs the question, can u consume all of the stones? We’ve seen the mind, and power stone all be consumed or used to give internal power. I wonder if you can do the same with the soul, reality, and time stones
Every stone would have radiation, and enough exposure to that radiation would give anyone powers . Mind Space reality and power seem to have a way higher radition level , which is why we have heroes like Captain Marvel that are indirectly powered by space stone

Honestly in retrospect, this episode almost makes me mad. This story deserved an entire movie and the suits decided a 30 minute episode was all the risk she was worth.
That being said. I want more of her and stories like this. Stories like this, stories like Wakanda, stories like magneto, are why I started reading comics and why I still love comics.

I think they shouldn't have gone to Spain I love the episode but I just feel like she was very arrogant at the end when they arrived in Queen Isabella court I understand she's upset for the Spanish her home but she had no right to go to Spain and to behave I'm such a disrespectful manner to the Spanish court I'm glad it feels like it would have been better for Doctor strange to show up at her village while they're trying to rebuild instead of her going to Spain

Was it too short ..Yes but you Take what your given and make it work. NO STUDIO would make a 1HR+ Movie out of this without Proof that the concept works,, Now They have that Proof we may get out 1hR plus Project like this in the Future.

I really could have enjoyed a full length of this either live-action or animated (probably better as animated). There was too much brevity of the gains & losses in the storytelling.

Yes but Marvel/Disney wanted to jntoduce another poc Mary Sue as a plot device, so it gor shoehorned in, amd did nothing to develop what could have been an amazing character. Sadly they failed in the heroes journey yet again, and only managed to create yet another token for PoC with power bingo.
@aries0968 or they could be marketing peoples reactions to a character thats not well known and from a culture doesn't have the best history with depictions.
Disney/Marvel is using a lot characters not known by the general audience So that's what I would do amd especially with the What If TV format its a good test run, for any future plans.
