I am super glad they improved/added the "suppress lower framerate" to the smooth setting. That always mildly annoyed me about the camera. Not enough to really gripe about it, but the fact they improved it makes me love the camera even more. Haven't had a chance to thoroughly test out the new update, but the autofocus does seem stickier so far though!
All I want is to be able to turn digital stabilisation on with IBIS off! Vlogging on the EOSr with digital stabilisation was pretty good. With the R6 it’s either shaky no stabilisation or IBIS wobble. Surely that’s an easy fix. This one little thing is almost a deal breaker! So frustrating!

What’s so funny is the 1st camera i bought in like 2014 was the canon sx530 HS and THAT camera had head/torso/full body detection and auto zoom to pull them into frame. . . Surprised that our R5’s just got that. . Ha ha - thanks for the info bud
Canon connect needs to just work better, you can tell its not a apple product , its still temperamental, much better than the 5d3 and 5d4 but still not 100% relaible
On the R6, I would like the ability to store and recall programed video capture settings with the top dial as can be done with photo mode. Do you agree this could be fixed in a firmware update?
You mean like custom settings for video? It would be nice if you could assign C1, C2, C3 for both photo and video. And just have a toggle for which one when you are assigning the mode when programming it
@@tsprenk You can do video and take pictures in C1-C3 now but not in cLog3… this is what I would like plus all the different 4k & HD settings that are listed on the dial record… And remove the 30 min time cap!!
@@glynnelectric No, you cannot use Manual video settings in C1-C3 settings. If you select to record video in a C1-3 mode, you will have "auto" settings for your exposure triangle.
These updates are good but FIXED the dam overheating issue because that’s what’s stopping it from being a High Rated All Purpose Hybrid Camera….. do you have any tips. I’ve had my R6 since May & I love the camera besides overheating & the Raw files doesn’t work in photoshop SMH
Yea, I guess it just depends on how you shoot. Overheating really isn’t an issue for me on the R5 or R6. I shoot in small clips and dont overheat, even in 4k60. What about Time Lapse Video disappearing when we used to set up Back Button Focus? Have they fixed that, I wonder? I was also losing my Control Ring with setting up BBF.
@@TonyMellinger I continue to lose the function of using the Focus Ring to double up as a facility to change White Balance on the fly (Customisation). I have not as yet checked whether they have corrected the loss of Time Lapse Video after Back Button Focus and various Button and RIng customisations. It is not by any means a show stopper; but it indicates there are still problems with the R6. I am a bit peeved that mighty Canon cannot fix these issues even one year after the release of the Camera.
This might be a silly question since I just picked up an R6 about a week or so ago. How do I get the firmware updates? Or are they already on there since I just purchased it?
I noticed that the autofocus on my R6 appears to have degraded for bird photography. Because of the weather here in the UK at the moment I have only used it once since the firmware update. However I found that using the R6 in conjunction with my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens, even when I manually focussed on the bird, as soon as I pressed the button to autofocus (I use back button focus) the autofocus would disregard the bird and focus on a leaf or branch. I have contacted Canon support and am awaiting a reply, but I would be interested if anyone else has encountered similar issues.

I have tried the lens again and found that with squirrels and birds that are unobscured and also with vehicles the autofocus is at least equal to how it was in firmware 1.4 (and my impression is that it is improved). I haven't tried any other lenses yet. Over the next few days I hope to get a chance to experiment a bit more.

It's a bit difficult to get close enough to birds with either of them, but I'm thinking about taking a small stuffed toy and see how they perform if I tuck it away partially obscured. I'm just hoping it stops raining at some point long enough for me to experiment.

That’s a great question. My thoughts are the R was a bridge, kind of the 5D4 just put into a mirrorless body. Who knows if they’ll come out with updates for the R. It would be nice, but I wonder if they will discontinue it soon.

Ironically I found both the human and eye af worse and very unreliable after this update …

I have two R5’s and agree. Less sticky and more jittery/jumpy. On eyes as well as inanimate objects.

Yea, you can still add in the number but not a custom white balance. Maybe the next round
