- Hi, Everybody!
In this video, I share my thoughts about the CANON EOS R6 after using the camera for about four months. This is one of the best cameras I have ever used, and I think it is one of the best cameras you can buy right now!
Please leave any thoughts/questions/comments down below. As always, I’m happy to help if I can, & I love hearing from you!

DISCLAIMERS: Please keep in mind that I still have a lot to learn about videography, so this video will be biased towards the photography side of things. Also, I haven't used the EOS R5, so I won't be comparing it to the R6.

I've had my R6 for a similar amount of time as you, and although originally people were telling me it was a mistake, I was not changing my mind. The camera is phenomenal! Nice video 👍
Thanks, Rocco! It really is one of the best cameras I have ever used! Love the images that come out of it. Thank you for watching!
I like that you dont have a sensationalist tone and you address the common fears about the product. Definitely getting one. I need a new camera and being postponing my buy for SO long. Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching, Emmanuel! I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. Have fun with the R6! I hope you love it as much as I do :)
Thank you! You answered all my questions about this camera (and helped me understand some things I hadn't considered).
Ah I am so glad! Thank you so much for watching, Carrie! :)
Your tone is perfect throughout your videos. Coming here from watching your 50 mm comparison and knew within seconds that I like your style. I have R6 and long ago used 8 mp camera. If 8 was enough then 20 mp is enough. We have just been programmed to want more.
So true!! Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! 😊
20 vs 30mp is only 10% more pixels length and width wise. People drink the coolaid for 400-600 pixels in a 4000x6000 pixel pic. 50MP is 33% more, so 24 vs 50 mp is like 3/4 of the length/width pixels wise. That's it. So MP increase is not linear with pic size increase
Currently borrowing an R6 to test before making a purchase. Sitting here watching your review while playing around with the camera was so calming and informative. Thank you for putting in the effort. You have another sub :)
Thanks so much for watching! I'm so glad to hear that it was helpful. I hope you enjoy the camera! And thank you for the sub! :)
Great review, made some really good points other reviewers have missed. Especially regarding 1080p which no one ever talks about.
Thanks so much for watching, Jonathan! I'm really glad that you found the video useful. I appreciate you taking the time to comment! 😊
This was so informative and helpful, thank you Zach 🙏💖
Thank you so much for watching, Peita! I am so glad you found it helpful :)
You're very sincere and easy to listen to, keep it up
Ah thanks so much! That really means a lot. I appreciate the comment & thank you for watching!
You convinced me that I needed the R5 early on in this video. I continued to watch it because your presentation was really informative for me! Thank you!
Awesome!! So glad you found the video helpful! Thank you for watching & thanks for the comment! :)
Thanks for the update to your opinion on the R6! I am a NEW hobby photographer. I primarily shoot wildlife/landscape and will probably stick to that going forward. I currently have a t6i and am thinking the R6 is the next best step for me. Budget isn't necessarily the end factor as I will wait to buy the right piece if I can't afford it currently. It seems to me the r6 is worth the extra money vs the 90d. This review brought up several points that helped me down the road! Thanks for all your hard work!
Amazing - thanks so much, Philip! Means a lot!! Thanks for watching :)
I love the way you speak. It’s so calm and relaxing lol
Ah thanks so much, Dennis! I appreciate it. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks, Zach. Really enjoyed this video and your style suits me well. Just the info I need without a lot of waste. Well done!
Thanks so much for watching, Robert! Much appreciated :)
Good Video man. Informative and to the Point without getting too Technical. Good job!
Thanks so much for watching! Much appreciated :)
This video was so helpful to me, in terms of finally making a decision to buy an R6. Thank you Zach. You are very easy on the ear too !
Thank you so much for watching, Andy! I hope you love it as much as I do. Really appreciate the comment! 😊
Great video, Zach! I’m still using a 5D mark III but hoping to transition to mirrorless soon. I am also a hybrid shooter (photo and video) and I don’t expect to shoot much in 4K. Thank you so much for making this video about the great 1080 footage quality of this camera! Exactly what I needed! Subscribed!
Amazing! So glad you found the channel thanks for watching! :)
Dude, thanks for the great honest take. Many UA-camrs compare specs or complain about overheating and rule it out as a hybrid camera-it's clear you've used it in the real world and have informed opinions.
Thanks so much for watching & for the kind words! Really means a lot!
Keep the good work! I wish you much success 🙏🏼
Thanks so much, Bruno! Really means a lot to me!! :)
Love this! Could you please make a video covering large printing quality with the R6?
This is a great, practical rundown- love it 👍
Aw thanks so much, Tom! Really means a lot! Thank you for watching :)
Thanks for a great video Zach, looking forward to catching more from you. Issy
Ah thanks so much, Issy! This means a lot to me! Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching :)
Just got mine at work yesterday and using it for video! Thanks.
Amazing!! Congrats - I hope you love it :)
I like your unagitated way of presenting your thoughts. Thumbs up.
Thanks for watching :)
Detailed and very informative, thank you!
Thank you for watching! :)
I went from a xpro3 dura black to the R6 so I totally know what you’re talking about in regards to the build quality haha. Thanks for sharing Zach!
Haha right?! It's really hard to beat the X-Pro3. Thanks so much for watching and for the comment - I appreciate it!
Zach! I love this Review! You're awesome! If I had to describe this the words clean and crisp come to mind.
Thanks so much for watching, Mike!! Means a lot :)
Great video! Good vibes + lots of helpful info
Thanks so much, Taylor! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch & comment - means a lot to me!
Excellent breakdown of the R6. What a great artist you are! Your work in wonderful!
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching :)
Great vid. Great info and examples. I’m really thinking about getting the R6 as an upgrade to my R, my R will then become my 2nd angle/camera.
Thank you for watching & for the comment! Yes, that is what I did! The R6 is my main camera now & the R is a backup/second angle.
Thank you for the great review! I’ll be upgrading from 5D markiii and I can’t wait to get the R6.
Amazing!! Enjoy it!! :) Thank you for watching!
Zach, just watched this after purchasing it with an additional LP-E6NH battery. Put a little ding in the pocket but I feel it’s gonna be worth it. Sold my 2 RPs to cushion the blow. Had 6D Mark II before those as well. Been a Canon shooter ever since I picked up a camera. Hope it doesn’t disappoint. Great review!
Thanks so much for watching! You are going to LOVE it. Happy shooting! :)
Great advertisement for the GFX 100s! Thanks. I might just buy that one :)
Haha Let me know how you like it! Looks like an insane camera. A game changer for sure. Thanks so much for watching! :)
Thank you Zack for this video. I was unable to decide between the R6 and the R5 with its 45 Mpx ! Thanks for helping me make aup may mind !
Thank you so much for watching!! I am so glad that the video was helpful. :)
Zach thanks for taking the time to make the video, I also your images are artfully done... really reminded me not so much the tool but the artist... I am sure you could make any camera work. Thanks again for your insight appreciated. Will also check out C. Vanderploeg. thanks for the reference
Ah thank you! That means a lot! I appreciate you taking the time to watch & comment. And yes! You should definitely check out Cory's work - it's insanely good!!
Just ordered it, couldn't be more excited to learn all about it ! :)
Wahoo! Happy for you! Enjoy it! Thank you for watching! :)
Loved this!
Thanks so much for watching, Jesse! Really means a lot to me! So glad you enjoyed the video. :)
For those torn about the 20 MP, the-digital-picture showed that the R6 actually outputs sharper images than the R... apparently because it has a very weak (or non existent) AA filter.
When you output in Adobe Camera Raw, you can change the MP output and usually that is more than good enough. Or, you can also use the ACR "enhance feature" to quadruple the resolution with fantastic results. Using this method, then outputting to 30 MP, the results beat the R in detail for sure (I can even beat the 45 MP R5 in many cases)
I just wasn't Santa Barbara and I used to live there and I am a Canon fan looking at the R6 so good work all around with this
Awesome! Glad you found the channel! :) Thanks for watching!
6:30 what a beautiful portrait.
I use it and I love it!
Awesome!! It's so great! :) Thanks for watching!
Fascinating. Thanks for sharing all of this.
Thanks for watching!
Great review! I loved to see how IBIS works to R6.
Thank you for watching! :)
Great bud Zach, but very very smooth and crisp audio!! As a professional producer and engineer ;) I can really appreciate the tone of your audio!
That appears to be a Rode PodMic correct? Are you using any external pre-amps?
Found your video because I’ve been using the EOS R for the past 18 months and love almost everything about it, just trying to get my footage a bit more cinematic so considering the R6 to be able to shoot in 4K. I also am a hybrid shooter and shoot headshot and fashion photography.
Thanks so much for watching & for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the audio! I think I was just recording from the podmic into a Zoom H4n Pro into Garageband. That's pretty much it. This is an amazing hybrid camera! The 4K is insane. You will love it. Thanks again!
Really good content!! I am a Sony shooter and love the color signs of Canon. Probably will get R6 to try out...
Thank you so much! Glad you found the channel & thank you for watching! :)
Thank you for the informative review. I have just upgraded to R6 for like 2 week and still debating if I should return it and get R or an used 5Div. It’s quite pricey so I think I could have used the money to invest on another L lens. I shoot still photographs mostly, so I’m not so much interested in video capability. After watching your review I’m more like to keep this R6 (I really like the autofocus and its performance in low light) ... but the internal debate hasn’t ended yet 😅
Omg I totally feel this haha but I do think that the R6 is way worth it if you can stick with it! At least for me it has been one of the best cameras I’ve ever owned. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review, I am about to sell my old 6D (First Generation). Your review was very helpful in deciding the direction I should follow. Thanks for the great work.
Thanks so much for watching! I'm so glad it was helpful :)
Good review thanks
Thank you for watching! :)
Nice video Zach, I am nikon dslr user but i am looking also for Canon the new Z6 is so interesting
Thank you for watching! I haven't really used Nikon, but I know that people like their Z line.
Thank you for the clear explanation and review of the R6. I am concerned about weight and so mirrorless is the direction I am going to take. One question is whether the RF lenses are 1. Lighter weight 2. So much more advantageous that it's worth switching from EF lenses 3. The practical difference between the high-end and budget RF lenses. Thank you.
Great questions! I'm definitely not an expert in RF lenses, but going off of the two that I have used up until now, at least for the L series, they are much bigger, heavier, and more expensive than the EF versions and provide some improvements but not enough for me to feel like I need to purchase them, personally. For now I am going to stick with adapting my EF L lenses just because I prefer the smaller size & I don't want to always be carrying around such expensive glass. I haven't used the budget RF lenses yet, so I can't comment on their performance. Thank you so much for watching! :)
Really Great video! Just ordered one!
Amazing!! Happy shooting & thanks for watching :)
Great video - love your way of relaxed talking
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate it :)
Hey Zach, thanks for the great vid. I came across and so glad I did. I have been on the fence about getting the R6 but this has me sold. I am a landscape photographer and I shoot with the R on R glass and I am definitely pleased. I do sell at shows, when they come back and online. One thing that struck me is shooting video. With a full time job, taking pics, editing, figuring out locations and life in general, learning video has been my major drawback. I like to hear you use the profiles you have in camera and go with it. What are your best settings to use when you shoot vids on the fly and simple edits, would love to see that process? I would just use PS or LR for editing vid. To think I have been shooting for 5 years and never used any video features from the T3i to the EOS R. Thanks for the video, very cool. Subscribed and liked!!
Hey, David! Thanks for the comment & thank you for watching and subscribing - that really means a lot to me! I think you will love the R6! There are so many nice upgrades over the R, even though I do still think the EOS R is a fantastic camera on its own! Video is relatively new to me as well - I only started seriously shooting video for the opera within the past year, though I've been shooting video here and there for the past several years. It is a learning curve for sure. I edit in Premiere which takes time to learn, but will eventually start to stick. If you are making simple videos, Premiere Rush is also an option - like a more approachable version of Premiere Pro. I typically shoot 1080 (unless I need 4k) at 23.98 FPS in the Canon standard profile & that's it! Hope this helps & thanks again!
Yooo Zach I’m a santa based photographer too!! I just got the R6 and started watching your review 😂
Loved your thoughts on grain, I shoot with a lot of grain in my personal work, so it was nice hearing someone share the same love for the romantic raw look.
Me on my gaming UA-cam account lmao
Great video, thanks for uploading!
Thanks for watching!! 😊
Thanks for your thoughts!
Thank YOU for watching! Much appreciated :)
I'm interested in switching to this from an A7III when I can, thanks for the helpful video! Subbed! I'm trying to start my own photo/video channel as well :)
Amazing!! Starting UA-cam has been so incredible! Good luck with your channel! Also thanks for watching :)
I'm in before 1k subs! *Woot!*
haha yes! Welcome - glad you found the channel! Thanks for watching :)
That was really helpful to watch and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for your thoughts and being honest with you biases. I think I'll be upgrading to this from my 77D.
Aw thanks so much! This really means a lot. I'm so glad that you found it helpful. Thank you for watching!! :)
I have the 77D and the 6D, both great cameras and I think I will buy the R6 now.
I also upgraded to the R6 from my 77D and I am so beyond blown away!!!!!
@@rachelgal27 That's great to hear. I suppose you're mainly using EF Lenses with the adaptor?
He probably got paid by Canon to make this video LOL
I'd definitely watch that video about how made your own grain in Photoshop! I checked out the work of Corey Vanderploeg and found it absolutely astonishing
Astonishing is exactly the right word! He is incredible. He also has a UA-cam channel that he started relatively recently. I am just in awe of his work. And thanks for letting me know about your interest in the PS grain tutorial. I will get that on the schedule to make. Thanks again for watching & subscribing. I really appreciate it! :)
Why should we listen if your “not sure” and “I was wrong” why not just say “ I was too quick to judge without proper testing” or maybe just take your time and then make an opinion.... appreciate the honesty of admitting you were wrong. Takes a lot to admit it, your integrity is more important than your opinion 👍
Thanks for watching!
@@jankocbek85 what is a Redditor?
Great review! Thanks! I will buy it ;) I have several EF L Lenses which dont really work on the Sony A7 RIII i got... would love to use them on a mirrorless Canon again!
Awesome! Yes, I LOVE using my EF lenses on my R cameras. They work so well. Thank you for watching & for the comment :)
Great review and insight 👍
Thank you so much for watching! :)
Good stuff bro 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks so much for watching - means a lot!
Hey Zach great input about the R6. Would love to work with it, one day soon. Greetings to paradise.
Hi, Michael! Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you found the video useful. Cheers! :)
Great video! Love the R6!
Thanks so much for watching - me too!
am from India Love your content bro much LOVE😍
Aw thank you so much for watching! Glad you found the channel :)
My question is: With near pitch back/ low light photography, will eye-lock on AF on the R6 still work with F2.8/ F4 lenses?
Great review!
Thanks so much for watching and for the comment! It means a lot to me 🙂
What budget lens do you recommend for r6? More linear on photography side with a little videography
Canon has some nice budget native lenses (35, 50, 85) I would maybe go with whichever of those focal lengths you prefer? Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
HA! Nice video man and thanks for the mention :)
Thanks, Mitch! Glad you found the channel & thanks so much for watching! Means a lot! 😊
Great info. Thank you! I heard so much about the large video file size for the R6 making video editing difficult. What do you think?
Yeah, editing the 4K files can be tough! The new IPB light codec helps though! But really the best workflow for the standard 4K would be editing with proxies or something equivalent. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching :)
Great summary! I’ve seen others say that the R6 focus autofocus hunts occasionally in video mode. Have you noticed that occurring?
I think the hunting depends on the lens you are using. The focus system itself seems pretty spot on in my experience. Thanks so much for watching.
Just to add my own experience with printing. I started with a Canon 20D, 8 MP. I printed a 20"x30" from it, and I can't see any obvious pixelation. After that I never worried about megapixels again. I am not a professional. So the largest I ever print is well under 20x30. So even with 20 MP, I will still crop.
Higher MP will become important if you want to use a wallpaper on an 8k monitor, but for me that is a few more years in the future.
Yeah I totally agree! I like the 8k wallpaper example - true! Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks for the discussion on grain. I actual used the R6 without color grade to produce grain. I get a yellowish tint that is unique. Pixel peeper really criticize this look. Some gain is good. I don’t like clinical pictures 👍🏼
Totally! I actually love the look the R6 produces in low light at high ISO. Bringing up the exposure has a nice grain & the image doesn't fall apart like it does on some other cameras. Thanks for watching :)
Love your presentation Zach, My R6 is being delivered tomorrow and if I wasn't excited enough already!! although I do feel a little guilty about my 5D 1V..I mean it did nothing wrong and all of a sudden it might be Bye Bye.
Congrats on the R6!! You will love it! I get your feelings about the 5D- it was definitely sad to see it go when I sold it, but I know it was the right thing... Thanks for watching! :)
Thank you Zach for the honest review! The 20mp was a small downer for me too. But after seeing webinars, 43725973495 reviews I still decided to buy a R6 in a few months. I come from a cropped Canon body. However my body 77D has 24MP and the R6 will be a huuuuuuuge upgrade for me.
You will LOVE the R6. Even with the 20mp, I prefer the IQ from the R6 over the R with its 30mp. Thanks so much for watching & for the comment - I appreciate it! :)
Thank you so much for not using Michael Jackon's non-amplified, muted SM7B with a Cloud Lifter for $999. Your audio sounds crisp, strong, clear and intimate. It's clear that you can think for yourself!
Thanks so much for watching! I'm so glad you enjoyed the audio.
Great Vid! Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching!
Can you update us on printing? I might be printing player posters for Varsity players. Do you think the R6 20mp would suffice?
Good review! I also upgraded from EOS R to R6 after a long hesitation with R5. Very happy with the IQ of the R6. I'm mainly a videographer and find it interesting you bring up grain because I also love film grain and noticed in my early R6 tests that the high ISO noise when you lift shadows is very fine and pleasing (unlike the ugly banding on previous-gen Canons). It's not a very well-known fact but some pro video website also mentioned it in their R6 review. Anyways, it seems that applies to the photography side as well (same sensor and all) so this deserves further investigation imo. Please do a video and post your results if that's not too much to ask for!
Ahh love this idea! Thanks so much for watching & for the comment. Would love to make a video about it :)
Hi, can you please advice on this camera as a videographer? There's a lot of review regarding overheating, humongous file size, and like overall sony a73 is kinda better for videography. I'm struggling between sony a73 and canon r6, watched tons of reviews and still...my soul belongs to canon but just by watching reviews a73 seems more..convinient and effective?
@@nagasolaire8462 If you're talking about the A7S3 then there is a debate but the A73 that came out 3-4 years ago is getting old: has no 10-bit Codec and the Sony colors are horrible under mixed lighting, so you'll be wasting time in post trying to fix things. The camera body and UI are also terrible imo, and the AF is way behind. I haven't yet experienced overheating on the R6 but I don't shoot +40mn straight. The file sizes aren't at all big in standard 8-bit since it compresses in IPB. 10-bit H265 log files are bigger and require transcoding unless you're using the new M1 chip macs.
@@fotomaton7852 thank u so much for reply, it's really helpful to get some real experience
When I do video projects (and I don't have an awful lot of experience, but I do have my moments), I like to work in 1080p, but I love to have 4k source material because it gives me so much more flexibility in post, for panning and zooming on the budget. And of course, the 1080p slo-mos are great as they are.
Totally! I've started shooting in mostly 4K. But glad to know solid 1080 is an option. Thanks for watching!
I don’t even own a canon but I do love camera reviews. Solid one my dude. What do you like better canon colours or Fuji...?
Hey, man! Thanks for watching! That is a TOUGH question. I feel like it changes depending on the day haha... Fuji is so unique and encourages me to be more creative. Canon is consistent and pretty much always looks good. Hard to choose - I love them both.
I liked that you are so positive about 1080. I myself always preferred it over 4k. That s from an old dutch geiser that started out in the 70s :)
Haha awesome!! Yeah, I am so impressed with the 1080 people don't talk about it enough. Thanks so much for watching! :)
Hello! Came across your channel randomly and its refreshing and different from the other "pro" youtubers I watch. Question: you use both Fuji and Canon for yoir work at the operahouse right? Is it easy to get the colors to match when you edit? Can you use the same presets(if you do that is) Im finally getting a new camera and deciding on what system(Fuji or Sony) to buy into. I like Fuji but I think Sony has a better array of third party lenses.
Anyways...you have a new fan...and you are super cute!
Thanks so much, Gregory for watching and for the nice comment! Yes! The opera has an X-T3, and use that along with my Canon gear to film the videos we make. Typically I use the standard profiles on the cameras and they end up looking alright with a few small tweaks in post. Most of the still photography I do for the opera is with my Canon cameras. I do think Sony probably has a better array of third party lenses, though I don't have experience with their cameras. You probably can't go wrong either way. Thanks again :)
One of the best R6 vids I’ve seen and among the nicest R6 footage I’ve seen on UA-cam. Great job Zach! Is your talking head shot in 1080p? Which lens? I’m so torn about whether to stretch for the R5 or settle. I’ve been a OnePlus user for a long time, so NEVER SETTLE is my mantra lol
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. Yeah, I recorded myself in 1080 with the Canon 24 L. This camera seriously has the best HD recording I've seen. Sounds like you have a tough decision! Haha either way I'm sure you can't go wrong.
@@TheZachMendez How is the HD video recording compare to eos r? I'm thinking about switching to R6 but not so sure if I should. and is there any color difference between the r and r6?
@@CleoChats good questions! The HD on the R6 is the best I have ever used. I always thought that video, especially 4K was good on the R, but the R6 is definitely an improvement. It does produce really difficult files though - the HD edits ok on my Mac but 4K is impossible to work with unless you transcode to proxies or find some other work around. I haven’t really noticed much difference in terms of color profiles. I still think the R is a great camera, but for video the R6 is really a big upgrade.
@@TheZachMendez thanks Zach! This might be a dumb question since I’m new to the mirrorless world. Is the 1080p in H.264 format or H.265 like the 4K does? That’s my bigger concern, I don’t have the most fancy computer for editing, the 1080p on the R edits fine, so just curious on the R6. And how large is the file size for 1080 compare to the r?
I shoot kid's theater (terrible lighting, usually at ISO12-18k) and have been shooting at -1EV with my 5DIII for years. I automatically carried that over to the R6 that I picked up at the beginning of this year and really like the results. The only issue I've had with the focus is that sometimes the eye detect finds something interesting in the background, and I have to move the camera off of that item to get it to look for, and lock on the eye. It might be because of the specific backgrounds that I'm shooting againt. This seems to be the only flaw that I have found. IBIS has been amazing - I've been using it to get video snippets handheld and it's working really well. Of course, a gimbal is the right way to go, but when shooting theater it's not the most practical. As I'm not a videographer, I did not shoot in 4k - and yes, the HD video really looks amazing. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment - the R6 is a great camera.
Thanks so much for watching & for the comment, Bernard! I totally agree with your assessment of AF for shooting stages. I am pretty much always using single point when shooting stages because I can't always trust the eye/face af in those situations. But in many other circumstances the face af works flawlessly. It's also amazing in video mode. Thanks again! :)
Thanks for an interesting and informative video.
Thank you so much for watching, Henry! Much appreciated! 🙂
Amazing no frills video. Loved the opinion on 1080p. Why need 4k if we can get excellent HD, which is also quick and easy to work with..
❤️ from India
Yes! Totally! I love it haha thank you so much for watching! :)
Just bought one for video in low light. So far it is amazing.
Yes!! I love this camera for video. Thanks for watching :)
Great video. For the algorithm baby.
Haha awesome! Thanks :)
Excellent photographic work and great content. Sub’d
Thank you so much, Daniel!! That really means a lot to me 😊
Loved your video. Your lighting was exceptional. What's your fill light and setup?
Aw thanks! Means the world! I actually just used a ring light for this one...I got a lot of hate for the ring in my eyes haha. Now I'm using the Nanlite Forza 60 with the softbox. Hope this helps!
@@TheZachMendez good move. That'll make a big difference, as it was distracting. Your content, voice, music and tone... everything else was fantastic. You'll blow up in no time, if you haven't already! Keep going!
just moved from the 5Diii shooting with primes and also a Lumix G9, to the Canon R6. I like it so far, it does take some getting used to but I'm looking forward to getting out more with it.
That's awesome! I hope you love it. Thank you so much for watching :)
Awesome videos!
Thank you so much for watching! That really means a lot!
I appreciated seeing footage from Opera Santa Barbara singers I follow elsewhere online in this review! I am still a Canon 1DX Mark II and 5DS shooter. For me, the R series cameras are just too big a leap for me in price across memory cards, adapters, lenses, and bodies for me to want to jump into the system. Yes, the eye-detect focusing and cool video features are compelling, but overheating in heavy, continunous use and those immense cost increases are not my ideas of an upgrade. I imagine I will step into the 1DX Mark III in a year or two, and maybe then I will reassess looking at an R5 and an RF lens to begin a transition. Honestly, though, my gear is not really holding me back at the moment from getting the shots or videos I want to take now. Thanks for your review!
Awesome. Yep everyone is different and we should each consider our own needs when it comes to gear. For some the idea of an "upgrade" is relative to various different factors. Also, I get where you are coming from on the expense of the R cameras. I don't have any RF lenses yet because they are SOOO expensive. That is definitely a drawback. Thanks for watching! :)
replaced the 5d mk4 with two EOS R - after one year I must say that the autofocus alone payed the bill. The R6/5 would again be a huge step up - imagine! As a pro you can't miss out on this...
Great. You had me thinking about the profiles on the canon vs Fuji film simulations. I don’t believe I’ve seen such a video. Just a thought
That is a great idea for a video! I need to add this to the cue. Thanks for the suggestion. Thank you for watching!! 😊
Great video, very 8nformative. I'm an RP shooter. I'm 99% still with some video for self tapes (controlled environments), so I'm more into the capability in stills. I like the DR here and how amazing that show recovery looked. I'm wondering how much shadow recovery were you getting out out of the R? How does the R compare to the 5dmkiv and R6?
Thanks!
Hey there! Thanks so much for watching & for the comment. I would have to say that DR is great on all three cameras. The R6 is just particularly clean when it comes to shadow recovery. The images can handle more shadow recovery without looking overly processed or digital. Also, the R6 has amazing high ISO performance. I've noticed this especially in video where the image holds up even at really high ISOs. I wouldn't say that the improvement from the R to R6 is necessary for everyone - I would call it more of a luxury for some. But if you are shooting concerts or filming events like I do, the extra low light performance is definitely worth the upgrade. Hope this helps!
Enjoyed the show! Had the R6 had the top display, I would not have bought R and the R5. I was disappointed Canon removed the top display on the R6.
Yeah, I know a lot of people were disappointed by that. Too bad they made that decision, but I think it is still a fantastic camera. Thank you so much for watching! :)
While there’s no doubt that the top display might be useful in some cases, I’ve never used it on my R, so it seems that the problem might be not as painful as the most think
When you mentioned you are a photographer based In my beloved Santa Barbara... I clicked immediately the like and the subscribe button 😍😅
Aw haha thank you so much!! Means a lot :)
@@TheZachMendez you´re very welcome man!
This video is so well done! It sounds and looks great, and you’re way of speaking is very effective. Just discovered your channel tonight. I found this video searching for updates on the R6, since it has been around awhile now. I’m stuck saving for it (and lenses), because I had an incident last summer which resulted in my old 70D and 2 lenses being ruined. You’ve confirmed the R6 worth it. Hopefully I can scrounge up the funds for one before it’s obsolete. Haha
Thank you so much for this super kind comment! I really appreciate it. I'm glad you found the channel, and I'm really glad you found the video helpful. Thanks so much for watching :)
This camera body is amazing!
Right!? It's incredible. Really loving it. Thanks so much for watching!
