I’ve had my 12 ga. for about a year now and I love it. It’s so quiet and it sucks up sawdust wonderfully. I love that it has a bag. So easy to just throw away and replace. No muss, no fuss. Just a great vacuum overall.
I've had the 12 gallon for a year and a half. It's quieter than my old standard vacuum and is far quieter than any shop vac I've ever used. I've used it to clean my garage, collect dust, clean my car and pull glitter out of a carpet.
Thanks for the video - I bought one right after watching. I am STUNNED with how quiet it is - I know I saw your testing, but you know how it is - seeing (and hearing) is really believing! Loving this nice upgrade and may replace my other Rigid units (which are fine, but so much louder)! I use a vac at each major station with dust separator rather than a whole shop rig, so this additional sound suppression is a big deal for me. Thanks again for the review! 👍👍👍
I have 2 of these twinned ( paralleled ) together with oneida dust deputy on jet 20 gallon tank that I use for every tool in my shop and it works perfect!!
I have two Ridgid Smart pulse shop vacs that I keep on my shop floor. One is over 6 years old and gets used almost daily picking up dust from sanding and cutting of wood and metals as well as general cleaning . The filters I change at most once a year. I think I have gone more than 2 years without replacing the filter during covid when we were shut down for a while. They by far are the best vacuums I have ever used. You just have to nock the filters every once and a while to avoid any excess build up in the folds. Also they are assembled in USA.
Thanks for all the great videos. I'm buildy my own workshop from scretch this summer/fall, and your videos have been very helpful in the planning process. I was close to buy one of those low pressure, high volume things...... Now I'm waiting for the Dewalt to be available in Norway any decade soon. :-) your channel is great!
Great question, it’s the same as my $600 RIDGID. I didn’t show the test because the way I do it is really rudimentary. I just don’t feel like setting up a whole pressure test system with tubing and meters and everything else. They keep the noise down with bearing design and sound proof housing.
It comes in a 6 gallon, also. I have a 12, 9 and 6 gallon. Safe to say I like them. Rockler just released a rebrand of the same vac as a dust extractor with several new features.
You mentioned that the motor is the same for the 9, 12, and 16, so the specs should also be the same. Can you point to where you saw this? Dewalt gives different numbers for the CFMs for each, but perhaps this is due to the size of the hoses or filter cartridges?
The specs are incredibly misleading, they’re not a lie just not telling the whole truth. When I was doing all of my research for other vac videos I made some great contacts with engineers in Ridged, DeWalt, and few others. Motors are the most expensive thing on the vac to develop so they design them to fit multiple models but to be easily adjusted to produce different “hp” by adjusting the amps and watts. So the exact same motor can produce 3-4-6hp ect.. So for DeWalt they can take the same motor put it in the same housing to maintain the decibel level and make slight adjustments to make one look more powerful than another. The CFMs are calculated at the fan intake on the inside of the motor with no filter, a company can change the fan size by .25” or change the blade angle slightly and drastically change the CFMs. I go into a lot more detail about this in this video ua-cam.com/video/yO49W9YFZFo/v-deo.html
@@rightsidedownstudio Thanks so much for the reply - I hadn't watched that video yet. I'd like to set up a Oneida 2.5 on a ~10ish gallon container and have been debating powering that with a 16G Stealthsonic (upgraded to HEPA), a pair of 9/12G Stealthsonics (inspired by your videos, upgraded to HEPA), or the new Hercules dust extractor. Any thoughts on how loud a pair of stealthsonics would really be? I've found hypotheticals about how much louder running two would be, but no practical measurements. The Hercules is supposed to have higher CFMs than the 16G Stealthsonic and has the filter cleaning feature, but is also spec'd at 73 decibels. That new $300 Hercules has complicated my decision tree :D
@@jodeplank553 If you plan on only using the vac in your shop and not as a wet vac I would without question go with the Hercules. It is a little more money but worth it in the shop. When I was talking to the DeWalt engineers they kept referencing the DEWALT DWV010 HEPA Dust Extractor amzn.to/4f1JwBN and that for a wood shop that would be better because the Stealthsonic at its core is still a Wet/Dry vac and needs to be able to clean up liquids along with solids, so a lot of sacrifices have to be made so it can be multi-purpose. But, the dust extractor like the DeWalt, Festool, and Hercules are purpose built for dust so they will far outperform a multi-use shop vac. I haven’t had a chance to test the Hercules myself but everything I’ve seen it’s the best bang for your buck. Also a 5 decibel difference between that and the DeWalt would hardly be noticeable. I think the Hercules connected to a dust separator would be the best setup. Also you can run a power strip off the auto start plug on the vac then hook all your tools to the power strip so then you would have the auto start to all your tools.
i like "all those" quoted comments lol. I think one was repeated like 6 times. still tohugh great video and pretty sure I am going to buy this one today.
Nice, I tried the newer 6 gallon stealthsonic from Lowe’s but it was no better then my 5 year old 4 galling shop vac, returned and still looking for something better
If you want the quietest shop vac just attach a hose to the output and run it outside. I did this with a cheapo and just ran a straight pipe out a hole in the wall and it made a huge difference. Try it as a test and it will surprise you.
It's the same motor and housing for the most part. Stanley who owns DeWalt also owns a ton of other tool brands and leases parts and motors between their other brands. So the results are going to be the same as far as noise and performance. But the built in tool activated plug is really nice on the Rockler.
@@rightsidedownstudio oh nice. Good to know. So you think we can use the HEPA filter that comes with the Rockler on this and then the Steathsonic is HEPA compliant?
@@Lrr2024 I believe they are the same size but without having my hands on the Rockler I can't be 100% positive. There are a lot of HEPA filters that already fit the DeWalt like this one amzn.to/3MLHpWq
I got this a while ago. You can swap out the casters for better quality ones and you'll be even happier with them. My one complaint is that there's no swivel on the end of those hose. Since it's so short and rigid, that makes it a bit annoying to get in small spots.
You literally said you were coming into this blind. So, when it's quiet, but you haven't tested any other aspect of it what-so-ever... how can it continue to make your jaw drop?
I did see that on some reddit threads when I was looking into the StealthSonic. Some people even said the cord melted but those comments were from a few years ago so I think they fixed the major issue. I did notice the top was getting warm after about 20 min.
There is no way a vacuum can be the best ever if it does two things. Plugs in a wall, and uses bags. End of story. It may be a good vacuum, but cords and bags are the bane of ever shop owner on the planet.
how many things do you want it to do? Vacuums really only do two things, plug in a wall and suck. It does both of those really well. I agree bags are annoying but most wood workers (which is the vast majority of my audience) use dust separators so the bags never really come into play. I just found it nice that they included them.
Pile of junk. Thermal fuse went out on mine I had to tear it completely down and since it’s in the windings I was left with jumping it as my only option. Only had it for a year and maybe used it 30 times.

Yes it was!
Hows the suction though???? It might be quiet cuz its weaker?

Yup! it had the same 20% decrease in suction as all the other test vacs did.
