  • Here is a tutorial for how to play the tune, "Hobgoblin's Waltz" on the violin! =) This is a tricky tune with an odd key signature, but I think it sounds quite similar to Harry Potter's "Hedwig's Theme." I'm not entirely sure who wrote this piece (The Session discussion seems to suggest Dave Marcus may have written it), but it's a neat tune!

I thought the original sheet music had a few notes written out that could perhaps be thought of more as ornaments to make the tune a little easier to play, so I tried to teach a simplified version. ^_^ It's still quite a complicated tune, but I hope this video helps a little. The sheet music is a bit intimidating to look at, but I think it's a little easier to learn by ear, or perhaps follow along while listening to it. I took a more repetitive approach to this lesson since a lot of the phrases and notes are not really intuitive! :o
I really apologize for the censored beginning! T_T I had no idea it looked like that while I was holding everything in one hand. I almost missed it entirely after I edited the video together, and had to cover it up with flowers once I noticed it. I hope we can all just laugh at it... :S
This tutorial was requested by a fiddler named Grace. Thank you, Grace, for your nice letter and drawing! I hope this helps! =)
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have fun practicing! =)

    Katy,
Thank you for posting this. You're an amazing talent and a great teacher. As far as the flowers, it's a nice touch. I would probably feel much better about the boston drivers on my commute if they held up flowers instead of their finger while cutting me off.

I watched it again because the in the 6th measure of part B you slid your 3 third finger up to the first finger 2nd position instead of what I was trying to, that is slide the fourth finger up to the first finger 2nd position. That slide seems to add a far better mood to this tune.

Grace, you’re so right!!! This tune is so good! It’s wonderful, with movement and flow, and bits that leap out unexpectedly… Thank you for requesting it. Katy has done such a great job of making it accessible to us with her wonderful way of teaching. Absolutely love my poor attempts at playing this, and every time I play it, it makes me happy, so many thanks for that. Much appreciation🙏🏻

    Bonsoir Katy,
