Oh man, here's the best part. Given the various reboots, if you consider the Aligned Continuity, the Optimus Prime we popularly know isn't even the original. He's a reincarnation. I think Optimus Prime is such a powerful character because Peter Cullen took his brother's advice before the audition to not be a Hollywood hero, but a real one.
The strange thing about killing off Optimus Prime to discontinue his toy is that one of the characters that replaces him is Ultra Magnus, who’s toy, iirc, was pretty much just Optimus’s toy painted white and with a different trailer which could clip onto the robot mode of the Optimus part to make a different robot mode, so they didn’t even need to kill Optimus off and bring him back in a new body, they could’ve just called it, like, ‘Battle Armour Optimus Prime’ or some shit and have him just take a power up in the film. Speaking of power ups, one idea I’ve got if I was to ever write a transformers series is, keeping the toy shilling in mind meaning new, more powerful/badass characters need to be introduced each season, say right at the start Optimus and Megatron are only operating at like 10% power and then every season they power up a bit more because over time both sides are gaining the resources to enable that (and that’s why the new guys are always more powerful than the last - they were offline until they had the resources to reactivate them). And pretty much you don’t want Optimus and Megatron going all out when they’re at 100% because that’s a doomsday scenario and when they do pretty much whatever continent they’re scrapping it out on will be collateral damage.
Ngl the idea of Megatron revealing that he's operating at 10% power only for Optimus to reveal that he's also operating at 10% power and then they get the exact same resources so that they are always matched sounds hilarious. I never got why Optimus couldn’t get the same treatment that Megatron got. He got to remain the same character but with a new name and design so they could sell a new toy, which would have been a perfect way to make room for a new toy but not kill Optimus in front of children. They could have easily just painted Ultra Magnus red and called him Optimal Prime or something.
I was sitting next to a kid in the movie. He was holding an ironhide figure when megatron said "How HEROIC!". I was rushing out of the theatre and grabbing the manager to warn him that he was about to have a VERY bad day. Fun times. Parents were ready to burn the place down.

I actually saw the movie when it was in theaters; it was tramatizing but not so much as locking myself in my room for 2 weeks. The backlash for them killing off Prime was so bad, it made them change the ending to the GI Joe movie coming out soon afterward as they were killing off Duke and didn't want to risk it happening again.
I know I’m super late to the video but I think this is a good edition. I believe it was about halfway through the third season of the G1 cartoon that they made a whole episode with a zombified Optimus who gains back his consciousness enough to sacrifice himself again and save everyone. This didn’t work out too well and made them do “The Return of Optimus Prime” episodes to end the season, slightly retconning the earlier episode. To advertise the season finale, re-runs of the zombie Prime episode ended with the narrator (roughly)going, “Is this the end of Optimus Prime? Find out in next weeks episode, The Return of Optimus Prime”. I did not exist to see the cartoon and movie when it came out but I used to watch the episodes and movie with my dad, so we got to that zombie Prime episode and the teaser for the season finale, and now that moment is ingrained in my memory as the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. His death in the movie was sad to me but it’s impact was definitely weakened due to also watching the newer shows at the time with it, plus I think my dad just told me he comes back later lol.
IMO it's the only reason Transformers lasted beyond the 80s, unlike most of their competitor toy brands. This shocked and collectively scarred a generation, creating a Transformers space within their brains that kept it alive. People argue that it was a dumb move, but IMO it was the best move they ever made.
The fact that wrestlers and MMA fighters are in all the Scorpion King films. The Rock, Randy Coture, Batista, Eve Torres and the human wall (and I mean his personality) Nathan Jones. And thats films 1-5 each of them appear once
That Random Shotgun Guy question was a pretty funny one and it gave me a good idea for the answer: Take any movie series with lot's of sequels and ad this on every one of them, but keep the tone and the plot intact. Examples: Police Academy - Eight parts, all has different Mahoney, because of this Shotgun Guy. Friday the 13th - Jason is still the big bad, but first kill still goes to Shotgun Guy. Classic Dracula - Is Shotgun Guy hired by Dracula? Disney Sequels - In-Universe explanation for lower quality. Can you come up more? Add to the list. 🤔
They made three movies in a row from the different Hasbro properties transformers, gi Joe and my little pony. Transformers came out first and there was such a bad reaction to the death of Optimus prime that they had to dub in a line at the end to the effect of "Duke's gonna make it!" I'm not sure who they were going to kill in the my little pony movie.
I grew up with my twin brother attached to a bob the builder doll. We got it as a Christmas gift. Years later learned my dad only could find one and though his twin four year old boys would share. My grandmother explained how fratricide would occur. (She would be right) so they drove to eleven stores to find a second one. My grandmother swed our first letter on the foot to ensure we did get them confused. So yeah don't mess with kids favorite character.
I remember reading a transformers comic where Optimus and the rescuebots went to stop megatron and the combaticons from stealing a super computer. They made a deal that they would digitize their selves as video game characters and would have a 6v6 team death match and Optimus and megatron set their sparks to if they lose their sparks explode in real life. Anyhow it ends with megatron using a cheat code to gain a second life so when Optimus “wins” megatron respawns on a bridge above him leading to Optimus destroying the bridge but in doing so he accidentally killed some of the npcs in the game and when it was over Optimus said that since he sacrificed civilians it wasn’t a true victory so he said megatron won and blew himself up.
I'm surprised that the fact that there is indeed a mausoleum in the special features of DVD versions of the 80s transformers movie that's how many characters died majority of which happened within the first 20 minutes

Well, now that you've informed me that there are FIVE Scorpion King movies, I've now got to watch them all. Yes, that's the most important thing I've taken away from this entire video.
0:50 - Actually... He and Megatron agreed to fight it out in a video game instead of real life, with Megatron stipulating that the loser be killed in real life. Optimus won the fight in the game, but in doing so he killed a number of NPC characters. A copy of his consciousness was saved in the game, allowing him to be resurrected later.

You know what I find funny? In some continuities Optimus while he was a decepticon(rebel fighters for freedom) he abandoned Megatron's plan to free all Cybertronians just because he got a bit violent. But later as the autobots they just kill all decepticons to keep humans free
The idea that changing something creates a truer idea of reality then not is the most exciting bit I've heard all day!
This movie had one of the best soundtracks going, amazing considering the majority of it was left overs from other projects.
Vince DiCola absolutely nailed it so hard even the 8-bit renditions used for the C64 game Turrican were banging
You know what’s insane is at the beginning of this video when they showed Optimus die and turn grey I was confused why you cut it before he turned to dust. Then you said he doesn’t just blew my mind.
By being British, I know for a fact the idea began on his 3rd bottle of beer. Only cause only the forth bottle could perform that stunt at the start. Absolute legend
Edit: I wrote that on my fourth bottle too
Remember that there is nothing you love that can't or won't be killed for enough money
The day Karl can't open a beer with an object, what is the punishment?
There’s a Power Rangers/Scorpion King connection, in Scorpion King 2 he’s played by Michael Copon, the Blue Ranger from Time Force (2001) and he’s said it’s one of his favorite characters he’s played.
The ranger or the king?
@@thatsoundslikeheresytomeyo4960 The question asked at the Con was “What’s one non-Ranger role you’re really proud you got to play” and he said Mathayas The Scorpion King. Though considering that Power Rangers is still making him money and he’s friends with his cast I’m sure he loves that role too
My Mom was a huge Creature Feature fan. When I was 8, we all went to the Drive-In to watch a Double Feature. Frogs and Sssssss. Bad movies, good memories.
The original movie will always be the best. I loved Hot Rod as a kid, he was the man.
That Time Karl Smallwood Opened A Beer With A Random Object
Holy shit, that lawyer is Morris Bart, a local New Orleans guy that I saw commercials for all the time!
11:40 This here is a nice window into an executive’s mind.
Was less a studio and more toy execs that were responsible
Kickboxer: Van Damme wins against bad dude.
Kickboxer 2: Van Damme is shot offscreen by the bad dude in the parking lot 5 minutes after end of Kickboxer 1.
"8 Legged Freaks" is one of those middle of the road movies for sure
I lit up when you mentioned Frogs. I have a copy on dvd. 😂
ive only seen it once but masterminds, in which the villain is patrick stewart and at one point he rips his shirt open to reveal a man united shirt
Beast wars episode where Dinobot dies. The last words he gives was too good of a line.
That Random Shotgun Guy question was a pretty funny one and it gave me a good idea for the answer:
Take any movie series with lot's of sequels and ad this on every one of them, but keep the tone and the plot intact.
Examples:
Police Academy - Eight parts, all has different Mahoney, because of this Shotgun Guy.
🤔
Love you’re channel!
Prime didn't cheat,he could only win the game by killing npcs and he was overwhelmed with guilt that he killed himself.
They made three movies in a row from the different Hasbro properties transformers, gi Joe and my little pony. Transformers came out first and there was such a bad reaction to the death of Optimus prime that they had to dub in a line at the end to the effect of "Duke's gonna make it!"
I'm not sure who they were going to kill in the my little pony movie.
Step mom had frog figurines in her bathroom and a cartoonist frog picture on the wall.
My favorite book as a kid is Parrotfish. Next to no one likes it but I love it to this day.
Now i would love a wiki weekend on optimus prime, see how far they get on that before their heads melt XD
This was where I learned about death as a child........ I was one of those kids traumatized. 2nd trauma was neverending story......
The middle of the road movie that was some kid's favorite movie was Titan A.E.. It was me, I was some kid. 😂
Have Brad, Nisha and Lucas gone back to being just the offsceeen voices again? I feel like we haven't seen them onscreen in quite a while now
I really need to watch Peacemaker
I'm surprised that the fact that there is indeed a mausoleum in the special features of DVD versions of the 80s transformers movie that's how many characters died majority of which happened within the first 20 minutes
I saw Scorpion King on the day I graduated Army Basic Training. It was the perfect movie for that moment of my life.
“If the world chooses to become my enemy, then I will fight like I always have!” - shadow the hedgehog, sonic 06
The Golden Child, staring Eddie Murphy was my absolute jam for about a decade. My parents would hide the VHS from me. I watch that movie for the first time at age 2, and it shaped my grade school years so strongly. So much that my first crush was the one filipino girl in my kindergarten class. I still love that movie, but it is not a “kids” movie! I love you Mom and Dad, but why did I have access to it at all..?
pluR
Sean Bean & Optimus Prime competing for most deaths
My dad loves this movie, so I've seen it a lot, and he often tells me about his extremely vivid memory of crying in the movie theater after Optimus died.
18:30
-gasp- I'M the person who really loves the movie Frogs!!!✨
"isn't that just waking up?" 😆😆
Beer deer pass meea beer
Well, now that you've informed me that there are FIVE Scorpion King movies, I've now got to watch them all.
Yes, that's the most important thing I've taken away from this entire video.
frogs is absolutely someone’s favourite movie
Oh, this is gonna be fun. One of my favorite topics, set up for a piss take by Karl.
The first 20 minutes of the film was absolutely fucking savage.
FROGS 🐸! The Miss Piggy horror movie lol 🤣
Dont forget that one time when he died he came back as an evil robot ghost
In the GI Joe movie they made a last minute decision to revive Duke after the reaction the Transformers movie lol
I remember playing scorpion king game on ps2
I have that optimus figure at the end. Its a cool figure
I got legit terriered to hear theirs a film called frogs. As someone who is a grown ass adult who is terrified of them!
Morris Bart, lawyer from Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
yeah. I grew up with his commercials on tv in the '90s.
0:50 - Actually... He and Megatron agreed to fight it out in a video game instead of real life, with Megatron stipulating that the loser be killed in real life. Optimus won the fight in the game, but in doing so he killed a number of NPC characters. Since he would never tolerate this in real life, he insisted that he had not truly won, and as a consequence accepted his own destruction.
A copy of his consciousness was saved in the game, allowing him to be resurrected later.
