Awesome. This is my rig, but with the 20W Silver Jube instead of the JCM800. It took me a while to get the money together, but it sounds so good that it's totally worth it. I was lucky enough to get one of the special edition boost pedals signed by Gary himself!
Aside from the usual incredible playing and tone capturing in this video, I have to shout out the flawless finish on that Ltd Alexi you refinished. Looks every bit as good as new (at least on camera)! Great job as always man 🤘
Dude I’m floored how much more clear and grindy the h4 is over the 81. I might have to give them a shot as I love the 81 but eventually always switch back to passives for the feel and response.
I use emg 81-85 combo in my axes. 81-81 in my ESP Eclipse. One trick I learned from an old blues player that liked active pups but used to use 9v batteries that were drained to get less power output. I was always impressed by Alexi's guitar tone with the HZ though as well.
So I tried to take these tips to get the same tone on my Katana MK2 100 head. I used a JCM-800 template from tone central and added Overdrive to the boost, made the mod a parametric EQ, FX graphic EQ and copied your EQ settings and holy crap! It’s damn close to what you got but furthermore it’s probably the most gnarly heavy tone I’ve ever got. Thanks for the video!
Bugera 1990 with a Fortin grind and 10 band in the loop through a Mesa Rector cab gets awfully close to Exodus in my garage! What’s cool about Gary’s riffs is you can tell he just jams out and whatever sounds good in a live context he goes with. It’s just something about cranking an amp Vs playing through a daw that you can’t replicate.
MXR/Dunlop needs to send Lambchopper some pedals. Heck, Marshall too! Have my eyes on that Jcm 800 studio as well now..... Heck I have bought 4 pedals on watching your videos alone!
Awesome, nailing the GH Exodus tone. Gary Holt IMO is the best thrash guitarist. Any chance of knocking out a heap of Exodus Lessons in the future???? Exodus is the best Bay Area Thrash band ever. Never swayed (Except for 'Force of Habit' which they were forced to compromise). Keep it up mate.
EMG HZ Vs. EMG 81, Both sound great, The HZ has a warmer tone not as crisp as the 81, The 81 is full on bright with brutal aggressive tone, There is a clear difference in the 2, Both have great tone, It's ultimately up to the guitar player to pick what they want for their tone..... I have a set of EMG 89's in my Schecter Hellraiser Avenger, They're active, Sound great and more comparable to the EMG HZ's warmer tone with a bit of brightness to them, Nice work Lambchopper.
Nice job brother. Would love to see an AC/DC tone with some basic pedals through the dsl. Ever since that shoot to thrill riff the other day you’ve had me searching for an AC/DC sound. I just can’t justify that kind of coin on the origin pedal… thanks bro.
Good afternoon from the Midwest! Had a question for you where did you get the guitar head rack? I've got the JCM 800 studio and 25 watt Mesa Boogie head and I need a storage solution for them. Thanks for the response in advance!
Has anyone tried the new Gary Holt Tone Hub pack that STL Tones released this week? It has tone profiles from Tempo of the Damned, Shove Headed Kill Machine, as well as captures of Gary's Marshall Silver Jubilee. I was actually kind of disappointed by it. I found most of the profiles muddy and lacked clarity, even when turning down the gain and doing some small eq tweaks. I got far better results last night when I did a direct tone match of Shovel Headed Kill Machine with my Axe Fx II. It was a near perfect match. I also think LambChopper got way better tones using his JCM 800 in this video. :) Just my thoughts.
Crushing! Slightly off topic, but would help me out...I have one guitar with an 81 in the bridge and I've grown to love it. I can get pinch harmonics easily, which I love. Now I have two other guitars (single cut and a Scott Ian V)...one with JB in the bridge and the Ian V has a Distortion set. I was considering putting the Zakk Wylde set in the single cut as I love his tone the most, and didn't know if I should keep the passives in the Ian V because there's no back route and would be a huge hassle to remove the pickguard. Anyway, this has me thinking...is it worth it to change pickups to actives or just go with the HZ-H4? I wonder if it will sound much different than the distortions. Can it get pinch harmonics just as easy as the 81? Thanks! Again, I'm going more for a Zakk Wylde tone, but I do love Gary's tone also.
great video as allways! i dont know what im doing wrong because everytime i try to use pedals it sound like shit and chomps the tone.. i use a marshall jvm 410h in a mesa rectifier compact box 2x12 and get the best tones when im just using a noisegate in the front end of the amp or no pedals at all. Your tone is badass man
You could use everything piece by piece but there is definitely something to learning how to take the gear that you have and craft the tone out of that.
i think it sounds okay, not too good or come any close to your other tone videos of Exodus. I think this tone is quite thin and lacks some aggression, beefy and punchy feelings from the low mid
Love some Exodus.
One of the original bay area bands, that's never compromised their sound.
You haven't heard 'Force of Habit' then? 😁
@@WyckermanForce of Habit was great compared to the other sellout thrash albums to be fair 🤣
SD-1 and any Marshall is a killer combo
The SD-1 pairs nicely with almost every marshall. I think it pairs well really well with the Jubilee if you keep the gain down on the amp.
Awesome. This is my rig, but with the 20W Silver Jube instead of the JCM800. It took me a while to get the money together, but it sounds so good that it's totally worth it. I was lucky enough to get one of the special edition boost pedals signed by Gary himself!
Jubilee are great for thrash. The 100w sound huge with two 4x12s.
Awesome vid, always loved Gary's tones, so aggressive. Do you maybe see yourself trying Gary's tones on Tonehub? Would love to see a video on that
Yes!!! Specially his tone on exhibit A & B
Always glad to see Lamb drop a new video. Reppin us old schoolers
The tone on Only death decides is just insane crunch
Aside from the usual incredible playing and tone capturing in this video, I have to shout out the flawless finish on that Ltd Alexi you refinished. Looks every bit as good as new (at least on camera)! Great job as always man 🤘
Well thanks mate, it’s far from flawless though. I liked it best when it was white covered in stickers
Dude I’m floored how much more clear and grindy the h4 is over the 81. I might have to give them a shot as I love the 81 but eventually always switch back to passives for the feel and response.
Some more content on the DSL would be awesome😊
You are so ridiculously good at this
I use emg 81-85 combo in my axes. 81-81 in my ESP Eclipse. One trick I learned from an old blues player that liked active pups but used to use 9v batteries that were drained to get less power output. I was always impressed by Alexi's guitar tone with the HZ though as well.

Couldn't not click when I saw you rocking the alexi. Hell yeah man!
Awesome tones as always lamb chopper I always thought Gary has one of the most brutal tones in metal🤟
Gary's riffs are so satisfying.
Dude you’re the master!!! Fucking nailed Gary’s tone!!
The part about the H4 vs the 81 is a good reminder of why I hate the 81. I know you're doing Gary's tone, but 85 in the bridge all day
MXR/Dunlop needs to send Lambchopper some pedals. Heck, Marshall too! Have my eyes on that Jcm 800 studio as well now..... Heck I have bought 4 pedals on watching your videos alone!
I just got the silver jubilee studio head can’t wait to dive into it
So many crushing riffs
You're a thrash tone legend.
Keep it up mate.
yo, you made it sound like a Peavey XXX!!! Love it!

love the Jeff Kendall deck!
Amazing!

There’s something to be said for AC/DC riffs. Simple but awesome. That opening riff to shoot to thrill is one of the greatest riffs of all time
Good afternoon from the Midwest! Had a question for you where did you get the guitar head rack? I've got the JCM 800 studio and 25 watt Mesa Boogie head and I need a storage solution for them. Thanks for the response in advance!
I make all the racks and pedal boards. I’ve done videos on them a few months back that might help

You think you could get that tone with the Super Crush? Would you approach it the same way you did the Jcm?
Great job. Awesome! 💪🏻
Sounds perfect!
I wanna get that Gary holt boost pedal, where i can get this pedal ? Am like I love Gary holt tone
Love it man!
It's interesting how well the HZ works and how congested the 81 is thru this rig.
I found that too, I find the 81’s sound flabby through the sc20
Nice tone , do next one, Children of bodom tone please
Would love to see some more boss katana tones🤘
I’ve been dialing them in, just haven’t had time to make a video. Gojira, Mastodon, Exodus and testament
lol what kinda bird is that? bro is mad chill, its enjoying the jams lol
He’s an eclectus parrot from the Pacific islands. His name’s Olly and I’ve had him 21 years

Do you ever play any death?
I've always loved the sound of that band.
Great content!!
Gary has the best tone in metal. Have you tried the Guptech PdeQ? He has been running it through the loop recently.
great video as allways! i dont know what im doing wrong because everytime i try to use pedals it sound like shit and chomps the tone.. i use a marshall jvm 410h in a mesa rectifier compact box 2x12 and get the best tones when im just using a noisegate in the front end of the amp or no pedals at all. on point!
Is like to see your take on this using a Dual Rec
Can't download the captor x presets. Link takes me to a text file.
🤘👌🔥
Can you do Fabulous Disaster tone on Boss Katana ?
Protone doesnt make this pedal anymore ? I need an alternative ... maybe a jhs hauting mids but something cheaper
Any eq in front after the sd-1
Just boost around 400-800hz
have u tried his tonehub plugin
Have you tried the hotmod in the SC20?
Nah not yet, I really like it as it is. Every test I’ve heard didn’t really do it for me
Are those boards originals or reissues?
The Powell McGill is original the rest are reissues. I ride them often
What’s the name of the song at 5:58 ?
Salt the wound!
For his tone wouldn’t jubilee be more accurate?
You could use everything piece by piece but there is definitely something to learning how to take the gear that you have and craft the tone out of that.
It would be yes but the 800 gets there with some help.
Best thrash band ever.
Sorry man, I used to watch your show to learn about tone or how to play things. Right now to me the main star is the bird!
I worked that out a long time ago when I didn’t bring him in the video
i think it sounds okay, not too good or come any close to your other tone videos of Exodus.
I think this tone is quite thin and lacks some aggression, beefy and punchy feelings from the low mid
Lawd. The EMGs 81 sound horrible. How did they sell so many of these.
It’s only with this tone and setup. Other tones sound killer. The 81 is one of my all time favorites
This Kiwi can really play!
Dude, he's Aussie😁🤘🤘🤘🤘
@jake.e.wanabee5333 , it was a joke. I watch too much "Flight of the Commodores."🤘🤣
Cool😆
